Desperaia

Desperaia (デスパライア Desuparaia)^? is the chairwoman of Nightmare, and also the main antagonist of Yes! Pretty Cure 5. She intends to gain eternal life by making the whole world fall into despair, and does this by ordering her subordinates to obtain the Dream Collet.

Appearance[]

For most of the series, Desperaia looks like a Japanese masked doll who wears traditional clothing and headdresses. She is a very tall woman in height, with long brown hair and wears a purple dress with a mask on her face.

Personality[]

Desperaia is cruel and selfish, only wanting to see her victims suffer. She is also feared by her employees due to her massive authority and dominance. Deep down, she has a fear of growing old, and thinks being young will grant her eternal happiness.

Etymology[]

Her name "Desperaia" appears to be a play of the words on "despair" and "pariah".

History[]

She is usually seen sitting behind her desk wearing a mask and giving orders to Kawarino. Before this, she presumably ordered the attack on Palmier Kingdom to get the Dream Collet because of her selfish desire to be young and immortal forever. She continues this quest through Kawarino and has the Pretty Cures attacked at every turn. She makes a short appearance mid-series by leaving her desk to confront the Cures.

In the last few episodes, she takes a slightly more active role by helping Kawarino and is surprised by the hope that Yumehara Nozomi and her friends have despite the fact that the Dream Collet has already been used up. She finally admits that she is still sad even though she is granted with eternal youth and beauty. The Cures feel sorry for her and therefore make a deal with her by sealing her away for eternity. After returning the used-up Dream Collet to the fairies, she is sealed away.
