Dokurokushe (ドクロクシー Dokurokushī)? is the main antagonist of the first half of Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! and the leader of the Dark Magicians. His main objective was to obtain the Linkle Stone Emerald and to plunge the world into darkness.
In episode 21, he was purified with Diamond Eternal, turned back into his human form, and died.
Bio[]
Appearance[]
Dokurokushe is an elderly man who is kept alive by magic, due to this and his own experiments with dark magic he appears as a living skeleton.
He wears a dark green floor-length robe lined with light grey accents, reminiscent of moss or mold. The robe is parted in the middle by a green motif that looks similar to a tree. The robe also has a mantle of the same color with a dark yellow fringe hanging off of it, and an off-white cape. He wears a light green scarf. On his head is a black skull with a cream-colored scarf on top, with red tassels hanging off each side.
As a youth, he wore a shorter blue robe with brighter colours and more yellow motifs. He had long dark-grey hair that is tied back into a low ponytail.
Personality[]
Dokurokushe is a mysterious wizard who wants to obtain the Linkle Stone Emerald and does not talk until episode 19. Through the use of his body movement, Yamoh is able to understand what he is trying to say.
As a skeleton, his mostly passive role makes his personality hard to describe, but his actions sometimes remind of his past kindness. He gave animals the gift of magic, making them able to become powerful magicians of their own. He has a sweet tooth and even liked eating sweets as a skeleton. A bad tooth that fell out was later on the final bone left to create Dokuromushe. As mentioned by Magic Crystal and Kouchou, he had a strong sense of duty and honesty but at his worse, he can be stubborn and prideful.
Relationships[]
- Kouchou: They used to be close childhood friends, until Kushe seemingly turned toward dark magic as a young adult. Although they went their separate ways, he still kept a photo of Kouchou and himself in the book of dark magic that he wrote.
- Yamoh: His right-hand man who relays his orders and worries about his health. Yamoh was devastated by Dokurokushe's disappearance in the latter half of the series. His ghost returned to the effigy Yamoh made of him, aiding his subordinates in battle once more before disappearing for good, showing that he does value Yamoh.
Etymology[]
Part of his name comes from "Dokuro" (髑髏 )?, which translates to "skull". The word "venomous" (毒々しい dokudokushī)? sounds similar to his name as well.
History[]
During his youth, Kushe was a talented magician who used to be close friends with Kouchou. As he gradually grew obsessed with dark magic which he assumed was the only way to save the magical world, his friendship with Kouchou fell apart. Although most likely because of the former's pride when he coldly rejected Kouchou's concerns for his wellbeing. He later turned into a skeleton after he used forbidden magic. His obsession with Dark Magic also resulted in the revival of Never Ending Chaos and their master Deusmast.
Throughout the first half of the season, Dokurokushe remained mysterious due to being covered by his long robe. He did not speak until he ordered Batty to fight Cure Miracle and Cure Magical.MTPC19
He finally appeared in front of the two Cures and Kouchou, revealing his backstory in the process. Although casting magic burdened him, he stole the Linkle Smartbook and Linkle Emerald to turn himself into a giant and destroy the Magic World.MTPC20
It was not until he was purified by Diamond Eternal and Ha-chan, and with his grudge cleansed, his soul went to heaven.MTPC21
