Takeuchi Ayano (竹内彩乃?) is a second-year student at Yuunagi Junior High in Class A. She is apart of the art club and recruits Mai to join it.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

Ayano has shoulder-length brown hair with thick, pointed bangs split down the middle and a thin strand of hair over each ear. She has hazel eyes. She is shown outside of school only once in the fourth episode, but there, she wears a white cardigan loosely buttoned up with a pink shirt underneath, a yellow purse strapped on her side, dark gray shorts, white socks, and brown shoes.

Ayano was designed by Takahashi Toshiharu, the animation director for her debut, the fourth episode, with series character designer Inagami Akira modifying the hairstyle. She was originally based on a girl that appears in the art club scene of the season's first ending theme, who Inagami noted looked a little indistinct, so he modified her facial expression before having Takahashi cast her as Ayano (pg. 39).[1]

Personality[]

Ayano is a friendly, but pushy girl, as shown with how she came over to praise Mai's drawings without introducing herself first, and how she recruited her for the art club. The way she describes Mai's pieces shows her knowledge and appreciation for art. When Saki tries to speak for Mai, she acted a bit brash, saying she wasn't talking to her. She is also shown to be caring, such as when she was on her way to her grandmother's farm to help her out with the harvest.

History[]

When Mai sketches on campus, Ayano walks over, admiring the craft and attention to detail. She suggests Mai should join the art club, adding that there's a painting context the following weekend that she should submit a piece for. When Saki begins to speak for Mai, Ayano plainly says she wasn't talking to her. As the contest's theme is "scenery of spring," Mai goes out to draw by a cabbage farm when she notices an old woman struggling to push a wheelbarrow. At the end, it's revealed that Ayano is that woman's granddaughter, who came over to help, but was too late as Mai had already helped with most of the harvest. On the day of the contest, Mai submits a painting of Ayano's grandmother, but doesn't win, as Ayano put it, the judges fail to see how it relates to the prompt. Despite this, Ayano says it's still a good painting and she can understand it better than anyone else, given her intricacy for details and the subject material.FwPCSS04

Following the fourth episode, Ayano appears in a small capacity for the rest of the season, usually whenever the art club is involved. In the twelfth episode, when the art club plans on presenting pictures the following week, Ayano exclaims it is difficult to come up with something. She asks Mai what she's going to draw, and being one of her biggest advocates, says that whatever it is, it will be good, as everyone in the club looks forward to her drawings. Ayano then adds that the rest of them must also work hard. In the sixteenth episode, after club is over, Ayano lets Mai know that they're heading home. One of the girls tries calling out to Mai, only for Ayano to remark that you won't get through to her when she's deep in concentration. In the thirty-sixth episode, Ayano leads the club meeting on what they will do for the upcoming school culture festival. When Mai submits a design for the festival theme monument, Ayano leads the construction of it.

She also makes a cameo in Pretty Cure All Stars DX 2, alongside Saki and Mai's other classmates.

Relationships[]

Mishou Mai: She is one of Mai's biggest advocates, constantly praising her attention to detail in her work and her work ethic. She was the one who recruited her to join the art club.

Etymology[]

Takeuchi (竹内?) means "bamboo house."

Ayano (彩乃?) has the character "彩" for coloring or paint, likely referring to her association with the art club.
