Nono Kotori

Nono Kotori (野乃ことり Nono Kotori^?) is a minor character who appears in HUGtto! Pretty Cure. She is Nono Hana's younger sister who is in elementary school.

Appearance[]

Kotori has magenta eyes and shoulder length dark magenta hair, tied in a low curling pair of pigtails. She has a strand loose on each side and small curled forelocks framing her face, with her bangs mostly pulled aside by three clips of cerulean, gold, and fuchsia. She wears a mint ruffled top with a clover and dove design on the corner and a thin lining of fuchsia, trim by a pastel yellow and cerulean check fabric. Her pink skirt has two ruffled pearl pink strips, and she also wears white stockings and a pair of pale blue shoes with white and hot pink detail, a pale pink flap-style cuff, and a hot pink bow at the middle.

When she temporarily becomes a Cure, her hair grows to be much longer and is worn in the same style, with her pigtails in segments held by yellow and cerulean pieces to match her hair piece. This is decorated with pink hearts to match her earrings and the ribbon on her chest, and she wears a fluffy fuchsia and white dress with wings on her waist.

As an adult, Kotori wears a cream yellow turtleneck blouse, and a mint green jacket with grey accented collar. She has also tied her long hair into a ponytail with a red ribbon, while retaining her three clips on her bangs.

Personality[]

Kotori believes herself to be more mature than Hana, and she likes to tease and make fun of her sister's childish behavior and responses. She likes being the center of her mother's attention and especially likes to rub it in Hana's face sometimes, using the excuse that as a cute child she's allowed to do it. She can be a bit snobby at times.

However, she is shown to be like her sister at times, such as having a shared interest in cheering on others and those special to her.

Relationships[]

Nono Hana: Her older sister. Kotori is prone to teasing Hana, and is often frustrated with Hana's immaturity, but secretly admires and cares for her sister.
Nono Sumire: Her mother. Like Hana, Kotori trusts and loves her greatly, although she is more obvious with wanting Sumire's attention.
Aisaki Emiru: Her friend and classmate. They are good friends, with Kotori caring for Emiru's well-being often. Kotori is concerned when Emiru loses her voice, but is relieved after Emiru's problem is solved.

Etymology[]

Nono (野乃, Nono^?): No (野, No^?) means "field" and "wild ^[1] while No (乃, No^?) has no particular meaning and can be seen as a syllabus, in which it could be indicated as a possessive word ^[2], making "Nono" mean "of fields" or just "wild".

Kotori (ことり, Kotori^?): Kotori is a Japanese name, which usually comes from 小鳥, which means "small birds".

History[]

Kotori first appears eating breakfast. She teases Hana for being childishly excited, and tells her sister to hurry for class. ^HuPC01 She would later introduce her friend Emiru to Hana, Saaya, and Homare. ^HuPC09

When Ruru Amour infiltrates the Nono family as a transfer student, Kotori and her family show no suspicions to her odd presence, due to her mother Sumire's memories being altered by Ruru.^HuPC13 She and her family still accept Ruru, after Ruru confesses the truth about altering Sumire's mind.^HuPC18

During summer vacation, Kotori joins Hana and Hana's friends on an around-the-globe trip. Throughout the trip, she is suspicious with the team's flimsy excuses on hiding Ruru's secret as an android, which she remains unaware of. She becomes annoyed when she learns that Hana has forgotten to do homework before the end of the trip.^HuPC30

Kotori begins suspecting whether the recent monster attacks and the Pretty Cure's appearances are caused by Hana, so she decides to investigate. She then befriends Hana's classmates Amano Hinase and Chise Fumito, who invite her to be part of their Cure Yell fan club. Kotori goes on to tell both Hinase and Fumito that she finds Hana to be a worrying scatterbrain, and wishes her sister would be as cool as a Pretty Cure. Kotori is unable to run when a Mou Oshimaida attacks, until Cure Yell protects her. When Cure Yell promises to keep her safe, Kotori remembers that Hana said the exact words during a stormy night to show up at the park to find her. Inspired, Kotori vows that she aspires to be somebody who is cool like Hana, giving her the power to help both Hinase and Fumito on supporting the Cures with their Tomorrow Powerer. Although she is unsure if Cure Yell and Hana are related, she has gained more respect for Hana, and decides to sleep with her sister for the night.^HuPC34

Kotori, along with Sumire and Shinatarou, is stopped in time by George Kurai at New Year's Eve, when the three of them are going for a jog. ^HuPC47 However, she and her family break free from the time freeze, thanks to the Cures' help, and she becomes a temporary Cure with the Cures' other families and friends, joining in Tomorrow With Everyone to purify George.^HuPC48

Twelve years into the future, Kotori grows up to become a cheerleading coach.

Trivia[]

Kotori has three colored hair clips that coincidentally appear to represent Cures Yell, Ange, and Étoile.
During Hana's flashback in Pretty Cure Super Stars!, Kotori was a baby when both sisters' parents took them to travel in Ireland.
