Chinen Daisuke (知念大輔?) is a supporting character in Fresh Pretty Cure!. He is Miyuki's younger brother and is in the same class as Setsuna and Love, the latter of whom he has a crush on. He has two best friends, Kento and Yuki, who are interested in Miki and Inori, respectively.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

Daisuke has short, light brown hair matching his eyes. He's mostly seen in his school uniform, but is also occasionally seen in casual clothes, consisting of a red top beneath a black jacket, light blue jeans, beige sneakers and a necklace.

Personality[]

Daisuke is an average young man, who often tries to act cool, especially around Love. He can be somewhat brash and hotheaded at times, but has a genuinely kind heart, and is shown to care for and be protective of his friends.

Relationships[]

  • Momozono Love: Love and Daisuke are close friends, and he has a crush on her, though she is oblivious to this fact. The two are shown to care about each other quite a bit, despite the fact that they quite frequently end up getting into arguments with one another. For most of the series, he is unaware that Love is actually Cure Peach, and often confides in Peach when they run into one another because of this.
  • Chinen Miyuki: Daisuke is shown to have a good relationship with his sister, though he is also somewhat embarrassed by her. Miyuki is sometimes seen teasing him over his crush on Love.

Etymology[]

Chinen (知念?): means "wisdom" while can translate to "feeling, desire, attention"[1], which is apt considering his feelings for Love. Additionally, Chinen is an Okinawan surname, possibly referencing the fact that Daisuke was born there.

Daisuke (大輔?) means "big" but also "tender".[2]

History[]

First attempt at the amusement park[]

Daisuke is first introduced in episode 5 alongside his friends Kento and Yuki as the three visit a fortune teller house (unbeknownst to them, run by Labyrinth) so Yuki can seek advice on asking Miki on a date. When Miki initially rejects him, Daisuke attempts to talk Love into giving Miki a push, and she eventually manages to convince Miki and Inori into going with the boys as a group.

At the amusement park, Yuki's plan is to split up and get each of them with one of the girls alone, which ends up getting Daisuke alone with Love. He had purchased Trinity tickets, hoping to ask her to go with him, but throughout the day has a difficult time managing to ask her. To make matters worse, the park is soon attacked by Labyrinth, and Daisuke is targeted by Westar's Nakewameke; he meets Cure Peach for the first time when she rescues him.

At the end of the visit, he discovers that Love was already planning on going to the concert with Miki and Inori, much to his disappointment; his disappointment paled in comparison to Yuki's however, who mistakenly believed Miki had a boyfriend; Daisuke and his friends then went for doughnuts at Kaoru's cafe, comforting a distraught Yuki.

Preparing a haunted house[]

In episode 16, Daisuke and Love were working together to make a haunted house for their school festival. After a large skeleton prop falls over and Daisuke accidentally touches Love's hand as they catch it, he panics and lets go, causing the prop to fall on top of her. Love angrily asks Daisuke why he didn't help her, and, not wanting to tell her the true reason, lies and says that he didn't want to, causing the two to get into a big argument.

After school, it begins to rain as the kids are walking home; Love remembers that a window had been left open, and doubles back to the school to go and close it; Daisuke follows her back, wanting to make sure she was alright. When she gets back, Love discovers that a well prop had gotten damaged by water coming in through the window, and Daisuke offers to help her fix it; she's still angry with him over the earlier incident, but accepts his help regardless.

Suddenly, the sound of thunder strikes, which reveals to Love Daisuke's fear of thunder, much to his embarrassment. However, though he was worried she would make fun of him for it, she instead seems genuinely concerned for him, even making him earplugs out of tissues. Daisuke notices that her hands are shaking as she does this, and wonders if she's afraid as well. Westar, who'd been eavesdropping on the two of them, calls the scene "sweet."

After the two finish repairing the well, they discover that the skeleton prop from earlier had been transformed into a Nakewameke by Westar. The two are terrified and attempt to get away, while Daisuke bullheadedly attempts to protect Love, inadvertently preventing her from transforming into Cure Peach. After being briefly separated, Daisuke tells Love how worried he was about her.

The two are eventually cornered outside the school by the skeleton Nakewamake, and despite Love urging him to run, Daisuke refuses to budge, vowing to protect her; however, thunder and lightning strike, causing him to faint out of fear. Love then moves him to safety, booping his nose and telling him that he pushed himself. Westar once again remarks that the scene is "sweet."

Schooltrip in Okinawa[]

In episode 39, he's determined to avoid fighting with Love during their school trip to Okinawa, hoping to make some good memories with her, but finds it difficult to avoid getting into arguments; Love notices this, and wonders why Daisuke is acting so strangely.

After seeing Love head into the woods at night, he heads after her, worried about her safety; however, when he gets there, he instead finds Cure Peach battling a Sorewatase, which ends with him and Peach falling into the ocean; Daisuke pulls her out and swims with her back to shore.

While resting to catch some air, Daisuke confides in Peach that he'd been trying to avoid getting into a fight with a friend. Peach then sees a shooting star and makes a wish hoping Daisuke and Love would make up, which makes Daisuke embarrassed. Later, Daisuke encounters a now de-transformed Love on the beach, and chides her for going into the woods by herself, telling her that he was worried about her. Love apologizes to Daisuke and thanks him for worrying about her.

The next morning, Love and Daisuke are painting Shisas, and soon get into an argument, fighting with one another by painting each other's Shisas. Setsuna, witnessing this, comments that Shisas used to be in pairs, and there's a great combo between Love and Daisuke. The episode ends with a photograph of Daisuke and Love with each other having a great time; the two succeeded in making some good memories on the trip after all!

Dance competition and confession[]

In episode 44, at his sister's suggestion, Daisuke convinces Yuki and Kento to form a dance group with him, hoping that doing so will get Love to notice him. He promises himself that if he can manage to win the competition, he'll finally confess his feelings to Love. However, the boys' dance group is soon eliminated, leaving Daisuke frustrated and disappointed. After the competition is over, Daisuke runs into Cure Peach, and tells her that he'd intended to ask Love out; however, as Chiffon had just been captured by Labyrinth, he'd inadvertently picked the worst possible time to bring this up.

Later, as the Cures prepare to head off to Labyrinth to save Chiffon, they decide to reveal to their friends and families their true identities as Pretty Cure; it is here that Daisuke realizes that Love and Cure Peach are one and the same, and that he'd confessed his feelings to Love herself the other day. Just before heading off to the final battle, Love calls Daisuke out, hoping to talk to him about h is confession; however, Daisuke stops her, insisting that she give him her answer after she returns from Labyrinth.FPC45

In episode 50, Love has returned from Labyrinth, with the Pretty Cures successful in rescuing Chiffon and defeating Moebius. Just before the girls prepare to compete in the delayed finals of the dance competition, Daisuke timidly asks Love for her answer to his confession. She timidly waffles for a few moments, before playfully telling Daisuke that she won't tell him, Daisuke is baffled by this response at first, but soon smiles as Love runs off. He's then seen cheering on Love and the rest of her dance group as they perform in the competition.
