Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart: The Movie (映画 ふたりはプリキュア ー マックスハート)? is the 1st movie made for Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart that was released in Japanese cinemas on April 16th, 2005. The Blu-ray version of the movie was released on March 18th, 2015.

Synopsis[]

The movie initiates with its main antagonist, the Dark Witch, revealing the view of her crystal ball and preparing to steal the Garden of Hope's Diamond Line. As one of the servants of the Dotsuku Zone, she orders a bat-formed Zakenna to prepare the ship.

Meanwhile, Nagisa and Honoka are eating at Tako Cafe, and Akane remarks that if Nagisa keeps eating so fast and improperly, she'll never find a boyfriend. Nagisa responds that she'll find someone who will love her just like she is. Hikari asks if she means Fujimura Shougo from high school, while Nagisa becomes embarrassed and denies it. Then, Fujimura himself shows up with Kimata. Nagisa flushes red and tries to see him, but accidentally turns over the table. When he says hello to her, she barely answers him. As the boys head back to practice, Nagisa wishes them good luck. After the boys left, Akane, Hikari, and Honoka laugh at Nagisa, making her feel offended and she almost leaves, before Honoka notices that Akane is wearing a diamond necklace. Nagisa eagerly returns and everyone gushes over how pretty the necklace is. Akane says that she gave this to herself for her birthday. While everyone is gazing at the diamond, someone with a brown coat and hat watches them from afar. Then, Akane gives Hikari a short break to play. The girls go to the playground and are still talking about the diamond. Mipple announces that she would have like to have one, and Mepple replies that he will give her one someday. They go into love-love mode, but suddenly return to their commune forms, sensing that someone is watching them. There is a hidden figure in the brown coat and hat, asking if they are really Pretty Cure. The girls prepare to fight, but the figure keeps repeating the same question. Then more voices come from the invisible figure and he then takes off his coat. It appeared there were many creatures inside said coat, which proceed to start attacking Nagisa, Honoka and Hikari. The girls transform into Pretty Cure and Shiny Luminous. They defeat the odd creatures, which turn out to be little frog mascots with elastic arms. They reveal that they were testing the Cures because they need the girls to help them to protect their home world, the Garden of Hope. They explain their story about the Dark Witch, who is going to steal their precious Diamond Line. Mipple, Mepple, and Pollun believe the Diamond Line is probably something similar to the Garden of Light's Prism Stones. Hikari is a bit reluctant to help since she knows Akane is going to be really busy at the cafe that day and she has to help her. Just then, Honoka's grandma Sanae comes, and the girls have to awkwardly hide the frogs in the closet. Sanae tells Honoka she needs take the laundry down off the clothesline because it's going to rain.

After Honoka's grandmother leaves, the mascots ask again for the trio to help them protect their home. After the girls still seem unsure, the frogs say that they'll give them their charms - the proofs of courageous warriors in the Garden of Hope, which also happen to be diamonds. Pollun excitedly says that he wants to go, because he wants to see the Garden of Hope. The warriors implore them to help once more, and Nagisa accepts their invitation, although Hikari is still hesitant. The mascots rush the girls outside, use their diamonds and chant, "Kaeru Pyoko Pyoko Mi Pyoko Pyoko, Awasete Pyoko Pyoko Mu Pyoko Pyoko" to transport the girls into the Garden of Hope. The expansive Garden of Hope is a huge, diamond-shaped planet. After they land, the girls realize Mipple, Mepple and Pollun are unconscious. Then Nagisa notices that there are hundreds and hundreds of diamonds sprouting from the ground, all across the land. Honoka and Nagisa are in awe, but Hikari is still worried, since she has to help out at the cafe. Nagisa inquires where the Diamond Line is, and Marquis proclaims that it's at the end of the very long hill road leading to the castle. Nagisa assumes they will fly there, but Round explains that they can only use their teleportation to travel between worlds outside of the Garden of Hope. This means they have to walk, making everyone sigh in annoyance. Meanwhile, the bat Zakenna informs the Dark Witch that Pretty Cure and Shiny Luminous have arrived at the Garden of Hope. After a long journey, the three girls reach the palace. As the group approaches the entrance to the palace, they come across a young man practicing his swordplay. Marquis tells them that it's probably the Prince of the Garden of Hope. The Prince turns out to look nearly identical to Fujimura Shougo, Nagisa's crush. Honoka and Hikari are a little surprised, while Nagisa blushes crimson and is completely speechless and nonplussed. After her friends tease her a bit, the group continues onward.

Later, the mascots present to the girls the protector of the Fountain of Hope, the Kero Kero God, which is a frog monument. Then, at last, the girls enter the palace and meet the Queen of the Garden of Hope. The Queen greets the girls politely, who are in awe of her beauty. The Queen smiles when Nagisa compliments her, and then instructs her butler to show the trio the Diamond Line - a bracelet, a pendant and a pair of earrings, all beautiful diamonds. That day happened to be the only day in the year that the Queen wears it, which is her birthday. The frogs explain that once a year, the light of the Diamond Line is reflected in the Fountain of Hope during their ceremony. The resulting energy of hope is distributed to the entirety of the Garden of Hope, and to all worlds as well, including the Garden of Rainbows. So if the Diamond Line is stolen, then all hope will be lost and all the worlds will be plunged into darkness. The Queen asks the three of them to lend Garden of hope their power. The trio agrees. Square opposes the Cures' help, as he believes that the frog warriors should be the only ones protecting the Diamond Line, and storms off in a huff.

The mascots tell the girls about the party for the Queen's birthday, and Pollun wakes up. He meets Marquis and they become friends. Honoka decides to go talk with Square, but when she tries to be kind to him, he is rude to her and runs off. Later, all three girls get dressed up for the party. They are excited and talk about how cute their outfits are. But Square makes fun of them; he thinks it's silly for them to get excited over clothes. He scoffs, saying that they can't work alone, only by combining their powers. Nagisa is insulted and storms off, and Mepple follows her. She runs to the top of the tower and stays there with Mepple for a while to cool her head.

Meanwhile, the party starts and the Queen arrives, wearing the Diamond Line. She blesses the diamonds of the citizens, and heads to the Fountain of Hope, followed by Honoka and Hikari. However, no sooner had the Queen started the ceremony, when the Dark Witch interrupts the celebration. She begins to attack with her Zakenna, which is formed into a pirate ship. The knights try battling her, but she transforms the front of her ship to a shark Zakenna. Hikari transforms to Luminous to fight until Nagisa comes, but she is beaten in one shot...Without Nagisa, Honoka could only watch. The witch triumphantly steals the Diamond Line from the Queen, wounding her in the process. The Dark Witch then states that she is one of the servants of the Dotsuku Zone, and her goal is to resurrect the Dark King with the Diamond Line. A very weak Luminous tries to stop her in one last effort, but the witch simply hits her away. Nagisa finally arrives to transform to Pretty Cure. The Dark Witch commands her shark Zakenna to attack Cures Black and White. They are caught off guard, and are blasted away. The Dark Witch then disappears. Everyone, especially Square, blames Black for what happened, but Mepple and Mipple defend her. Heavy-hearted and discouraged, Black apologizes to everyone and leaves, crying.

Black is sitting alone, crying on the balcony, when the Prince of the Garden of Hope comes to talk to her. He tells her that it's not her fault. He feels that no matter how much he practices swordplay, in the end he just has never had enough bravery to fight. He wants to give Black his clover-shaped warrior's charm for protection. She is reluctant, but he insists. Then Black is walking the hall, where White is waiting for her. The two of them decide to go and take back the Diamond Line, leaving Luminous at the palace to recover. Everyone except Square seems to have forgiven Black. Without the Diamond Line, the condition of the Fountain of Hope and the Garden of Hope begins to deteriorate. Pretty Cure and the frog warriors travel to the place where the witch is with the same spell they used earlier. The Prince tries to follow them, but he can't travel without his charm, which he gave to Black.

The group reaches the graveyard of ships - the place where the witch lives. It's a dark ocean filled with crashed ships that White assumes are from the Garden of Rainbows. The witch sees the Cures approaching her lair, and sends her bat Zakennas to break the diamond in which they were traveling, causing them to fall. White saves Black from falling, since she can't swim. Pretty Cure and the warriors fight off the bats. One is just about to defeat Pretty Cure when the witch appears and eliminates it herself, elucidating that the bat was rather weak; now, she prepares to battle the Cures. Square tries punching her with his elastic abilities, but she moves quickly and defeats him. The Cures use Marble Screw Max, but the witch counters with her gigantic dark element, which causes the ship they are fighting on to be set ablaze. Black and White try to save everyone from the burning ship, but Marquis is missing, and Round finds his torn cape. Square blames Pretty Cure for the loss of his friend, but the other warriors say that it was the witch's fault. Everyone vows to avenge him. Then the frogs' charms react to the Diamond Line being near, which leads the group to the Dark Witch's base.

In the Dark Witch's lair, something is shining in the witch's feather collar. It's Marquis hiding behind her. The Cures fight against the bats to proceed to the witch and take the Diamond Line back from her. They find her, and Pretty Cure manages to take the Diamond Line back. Black and White fight her while the frogs carry the Diamond Line back to the palace in the Garden of Hope.

Meanwhile, Hikari awakens in her room in the palace and sees the what is left of the Garden of Hope. She worries about Nagisa and Honoka. As Pretty Cure struggle against the witch, Black remembers desserts at the grocery store are half-off that night, and she wants to stock up on chocolate; this gives both Black and White the strength to keep fighting. (that won't be important to the plot, though). They almost defeat the witch, but she fires a blast right in front of the girls' faces, knocking them both unconscious. Then, Marquis comes out of the witch's lair to Black and White's side, while the witch flies back to the castle to take back the Diamond Line.

The Prince arrives on a horse to aid the frogs, who are struggling greatly to carry the Diamond Line, and takes it for them. Hikari appears and comes with him too, and together they carry the it to the palace.

Marquis cries for Pretty Cure. He says the teleportation spell, but nothing happens. He starts to cry again, and the charm the Prince gave to Black begins to react.

The witch sends her bat Zakennas to fight the frog mascots, who are walking to the castle without the Diamond Line now, while she herself continues onward to the palace. The Prince and Hikari make to the palace, but the witch arrives at the same time. The Prince trembles as he tries to keep the witch away with his sword, facing his fear.

The frog warriors struggle against the Zakennas, and just as they are about to be defeated, Cure Black and Cure White appear, and defeat the Zakennas easily. Pretty Cure and the warriors then rush towards the castle.

The Dark Witch fires at the prince, but Hikari jumps in front of him, sacrificing herself, making her pass out. Black and White see this and hurry to her side. Furious that she has injured their friend, Black and White stand up to fight. The witch summons dozens of Zakennas, but Black and White defeat them with one blast. The witch then transforms into her true form and starts attacking the Cures. The girls are weakened, but they still stand their ground. White says that for them to lose is "Totally unbelievable!". They stand up with much difficulty, and Hikari is still unconscious. The Queen now appears and commands everyone to give their power to the three girls. They have to believe in the power of the Cures and the diamonds of the Garden of Hope. Everyone stands in a circle around the Cures, and gives them their power. Hikari wakes up and transforms to Luminous. The Dark Witch directs her attack at all of them, but Square jumps in front of the blast, barely staving off the attack.

Their Cure outfits change to gold colored, they gain the ability to fly, and become even faster and stronger than the witch. Marquis recalls the Dark Witch's weak point: her stomach. The Cures use the golden version of Extreme Luminario, and the witch is defeated at last. The Queen thanks the girls profusely.

The Garden of Hope and the Fountain of Hope are returned to normal. The frogs, especially Square, don't want Nagisa, Honoka, and Hikari to leave, but after a tearful goodbye, the girls finally return back home.

During their short trip back through space, Honoka asks Nagisa if she is sure she don't have any regrets, to which Nagisa reluctantly answers that she probably should have accepted one of the diamonds they were offered as a reward. Back home, Hikari hurries to apologize to Akane for being late for her shift, but Akane looks at her in surprise, saying that Hikari's break has not ended yet, leading Hikari to realize that during the time they were gone, almost no time had passed in The Garden of Rainbows. When it starts to rain, Honoka suddenly remembers that she forgot to take down the laundry, which she had promised her grandma earlier. As she hurries to take it down, she sees a frog in the grass and tells Nagisa to come look. Honoka claims that it's a Kero Kero God, whereupon Nagisa suggests they to try to fly, just the two of them. It doesn't work, and the girls start laughing.

Trivia[]

  • All of the names of the frogs are names of precious stones or types of cuts made to these stones.
  • "Kaeru Pyoko Pyoko Mi Pyoko Pyoko, Awasete Pyoko Pyoko Mu Pyoko Pyoko" is a famous Japanese tongue twister, translating into "Take two sets of three frog croaks, add them together and make it six croaks".
  • In the 2nd trailer, Cure Black and White's earrings are miscolored as platinum, instead of gold, from their original season.
  • The movie's theme, Akane suddenly buying herself a diamond necklace, and the whole group's (Nagisa's in particular) odd interest in diamonds are explained by this movie being sponsored by a group of jewelry manufacturers and stores (as seen in the ending credits at about 1:10:03). The Diamond Line is named after a set of jewelry produced and sold by them.
