Yuunagi Junior High's softball team members[]

FwPCSS03- Saki's team won

Yuunagi Junior High's softball team.

The girls' softball team at Yuunagi Junior High has several students playing for it, the most prominent ones being Saki, Outa Yuuko, Itou Hitomi, and Izumida. There are a few other girls as well, some with names as given in the Memory Book included with the first volume of the Futari Pretty Cure Splash Star DVD-BOX (pg. 40).[1]

FwPCSS26 - Saki and her friends look

Hasebe in the bottom left corner.

One girl is Hasebe Atsuko (長谷部敦子)?. She first appeared in the third episode, going home with the other girls after practice, and appearing during the match against Kuroshio Junior High. She next appeared in the twenty-sixth episode, where she partakes in the team's summer training camp, preparing food and participating in Saki's surprise birthday party. Her last appearance was in the thirty-fifth episode, being present during the speech Izumida gives to close out the practice before the finals, and the match itself. Hasebe is characterized by her reddish-brown hair styled into a bob and her glasses, as well as the number 6 on her uniform. She is described as a left fielder.

Another girl is Kinoshita Tomo (木下トモ)?. She appeared briefly in the thirty-fifth episode, during the group huddle before the last inning of the finals. Though she's not on screen for that long, she can be distinguished by the number 7 on her uniform. She appears to have brown neck-length hair. She is described as a second baseman.

EpFwSS35-3

EpFwSS35-1

Numbers 4 and 2 standing next to Hasebe and Izumida.

The rest of the girls are unnamed. A girl who wears the number 4 on her uniform has short, black hair with strands over her ears and freckles. She is described as a center fielder. A girl who wears the number 2 has brown hair tied into a braided ponytail. She is described as a shortstop. A girl who wears the number 24 has short, spiky black hair without any strands covering her ears. She is described as a benchwarmer. A girl who wears the number 11 also has short black hair without strands covering her ears. She is described as a right fielder. All these girls appear in the same episodes prominently focused on the softball team, the third, twenty-sixth, and thirty-fifth episodes.

According to episode director Otsuka Takashi, Toei had a softball umpire come to the studio to give a three-hour lecture on how the game is played, in preparation for the sport being played by Saki and the others this season (Jan. 15).[2]

Kuroshio's Pitcher[]

FwPCSS03 Opposing team

Kuroshio's Pitcher (黒潮中ピッチャー)? is an unnamed girl that plays softball as a pitcher for Kuroshio Junior High, the school that played against Saki's Yuunagi Junior High in the third episode.

When Yuunagi's team watches Kuroshio's practice, they are amazed at the pitcher's speed, with Hitomi noting she might be faster than last year. She proves to be a great deal of trouble for Yuunagi, causing several strikes. As Saki steps up to bat, a tornado formed by Karehan interrupts the match, hitting Kuroshio's pitcher directly. Everyone takes shelter inside the stadium. Once the game recommences, Yuuko takes Saki's place and steps up to the bat. Saki gives her words of encouragement, which allows Yuuko to hit the pitcher's fast ball. Next up is Saki again, as the pitcher thinks to herself that it's just one more batter she needs to strike out. However, Saki also hits the fast ball, turning it into a winning homerun.FwPCSS03 Saki is still intimidated by this opposing pitcher, as later on, when an Uzaina causes her pitching aim to be off, she has a nightmare where she's in a softball stadium surrounded by multiple clones of Kuroshio's pitcher, and one at the plate ready for her pitch. Saki pitches, but her aim is wildly off, with the clones exclaiming that it's the hundredth time in a row, so it's "base on balls," as they all run through the bases, scoring many points off Saki.FwPCSS15

The pitcher is a girl of larger frame similar to Yuuko. She has black hair tied in a ponytail with a side plait, similar to Izumida, but the plait covers her right ear. She wears Kuroshio's uniform, which is primarily blue and white. Like Saki, she has a number 1 on her uniform.

She was voiced by Yoshimoto Rieko.

Ayano's grandmother[]

FwPCSS04 - Mai's finished painting

The painting of Ayano's grandmother that Mai submitted to the contest.

Ayano's grandmother is a character that appeared in the fourth episode. She works as a cabbage farmer outside of town.

When Mai goes out to draw by a cabbage farm, she notices an old woman struggling to push a wheelbarrow, so she goes over to help. The woman is grateful and invites her back for tea. Mai offers to help her continue with the cabbage harvest, wanting to physically feel the meaning of spring. She is then put unconscious by a flurry of cicadas under Karehan's command. After the battle, Mai and Saki tend to the old woman. It's revealed that Ayano is the woman's granddaughter, who came over to help, but was too late as Mai already helped with most of the harvest. For the painting contest, Mai draws the old woman, but doesn't win as the judges fail to see how it relates to the prompt. She did win a judge's consideration prize as consolation, however.

She was voiced by Koumura Toshiko.

Nikaidou Naoto[]

FwPCSS49 - Izumida high school

Nikaidou in the foreground.

Nikaidou Naoto (二階堂直人)? is a second-year student at Yuunagi Junior High in Class 2B, making him a fellow classmate of Saki and Mai.

He first appeared in the ninth episode, where he, along with Nitta Junpei, are seated behind class co-representative Miyasako Manabu. When the meek Miyasako tries to tell everyone to stand up at the beginning of class, the two boys say they can't hear him, making fun of his lack of energy. After that episode, he only makes a few voiceless cameos for the rest of the season, such as in the fifteenth episode during Japanese class, the thirty-fifth episode in the stands along with the rest of the Yuunagi students during the softball finals, and in the final episode again sitting in the stands during the following year's finals in the row in front of Izumida and Nitta.

He also appeared in a fantasy sequence of Saki and Mai along with their classmates and teacher from 2B in the short film, Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash☆Star: Maji☆Doki♡ 3D Theater.

Nikaidou has shaggy black hair, slanty eyes, and freckles. The original concept had him wearing baggy clothes and basketball shoes. One of the young staff members at the time was used to model the character design for him (pg. 38).[1] According to episode director Otsuka Takashi, he was the one that was the basis for Nikaidou (Apr. 5).[3]

He was voiced by Azumi Jun. He shares his family name with Nikaidou Takuya from Doki Doki! Pretty Cure, and his given name with Koshiba Naoto from Go! Princess Pretty Cure.

EpFwSS 09-2

Nitta one seat behind Miyasako.

Nitta Junpei (新田純平)? is a second-year student at Yuunagi Junior High in Class 2B, making him a fellow classmate of Saki and Mai.

He first appeared in the ninth episode, where he, along with Nikaidou Naoto, are seated behind class co-representative Miyasako Manabu. When the meek Miyasako tries to tell everyone to stand up at the beginning of class, the two boys say they can't hear him, making fun of his lack of energy. He briefly appears in the following episode, where he is present in his seat during the girls' presentation. Later, when Kenta tries to establish the comedy club at school, he advertises by wearing a signpost that has a crude drawing of what appears to be Nitta introducing him. It is unknown if Nitta was part of the club at one point or if he consented to having his likeness used.FwPCSS16 Nitta has another in-person and voiced role in the thirty-seventh episode, where during the culture festival, as the 2B girls struggle to set up the haunted house, he comes back, telling them that he couldn't find the wire to hold the sheets up, so he brought back a wooden beam instead. He is the one that stands outside the classroom leading people into the makeshift haunted house. In the epilogue of the final episode, which takes place a year after, Nitta is sitting in the stands next to Izumida and one row behind Nikaidou during the softball finals.

He also appeared in a fantasy sequence of Saki and Mai along with their classmates and teacher from 2B in the short film, Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash☆Star: Maji☆Doki♡ 3D Theater.

He has wavy brown hair and wears glasses. The original concept had him wearing a loose collar and sneakers. One of the young staff members at the time was used to model the character design for him (pg. 38). According to episode director Otsuka Takashi, Suetake Ken, a staff member involved with production advancement (Apr. 7), was used as the basis for Nitta (Apr. 5).[3]

Nitta was voiced by Yamaguchi Takafumi.

Tomoya.

FwPCSS09 - Tomoya's mom crying

Tomoya's mother.

Tomoya (友也)? and his mother are characters who appeared in the ninth episode. Tomoya is a little boy that frequents the library with his mother.

Class 2B co-representative Andou Kayo periodically volunteers to read books to the little kids at the library. They love to listen to her, especially Tomoya, who after one session, runs up and asks her to read one more book, to the dismay of his mother. She tries to take him home, but Tomoya acts stubborn, so Andou promises to tell him a good story the next day to appease him, making a pinky promise. Andou notes to Saki and Mai that Tomoya was one of the first kids she read to, and that seeing his smile cheers her up. However, Tomoya's father had just been transferred to a new location, meaning the family will leave the Land of Greenery soon, making the next day the last time she can see him, so Andou wants to make it a special day. The girls decide on a puppet show, with the characters being based off Andou and Tomoya, who are represented by a panda and cat respectively. The story is about Andou reading to Tomoya, and ends with him moving away just as in real life, but the panda Andou tells him that they'll always be friends no matter what. Tomoya and his mother are moved to tears. Saki also brings for Tomoya and his friends some bread in the shape of the characters from the puppet show.

Tomoya has short brownish-black hair. He wears a long-sleeved orange and blue shirt, red pants, and blue shoes. His mother has brown shoulder-length hair. She wears a white coat with a pink shirt underneath, egg-white pants, and light blue shoes.

Saki and Mai's group chose to research Kenta's parents' fishing boat rental business. Mr. Kobayashi is pleased and interested by the presentation, and even asks them if they caught anything, to which they show an illustration of their catch.

He is an older man of average height with short gray hair, wears glasses, a brown coat with an egg white turtleneck underneath, black dress pants, and brown shoes.

He is likely voiced by Watanabe Hideo, who also voiced Korone and the Uzaina this season. Because his name is not listed in the credits, it comes from the Memory Book included with the first volume of the Futari Pretty Cure Splash Star DVD-BOX (pg. 41).[1]

Yoshiike Reiko[]

FwPCSS12 - Art club president

Yoshiike Reiko (吉池玲子)? is a third-year student at Yuunagi Junior High. She is the leader of the art club that Mai and Takeuchi Ayano are apart of.

In the twelfth episode, Yoshiike leads the club meeting, noting that they will be presenting a picture the following week, with the theme being "scenery that makes an impression on you." Her last appearance is in the nineteenth episode, where she and Mai are on the balcony sketching the scenery. She calls Mai over for something, which prompts the younger girl to leave her sketchbook behind, allowing Michiru and Kaoru to make it disappear for their plans.

Yoshiike has wavy brownish-black hair tied in a ponytail with a pink scrunchie. She is described as having an "intellectual appearance." Yabe Akinori, the director for the twelfth episode, in which Yoshiike debuts, originally planned to have her designed as a elder sister type of character who wore glasses, a concept he had planned to use in the fourth episode, which he also directed (pg. 39).

Yoshiike's name is not said or written in the anime. In the credits, she is listed by her given name only, Reiko. The source for her family name, Yoshiike, comes from the Memory Book included with the first volume of the Futari Pretty Cure Splash Star DVD-BOX (pg. 39).[1]

FwPCSS Asukafullbody

Suzuki Asuka (鈴木明日香)? is a woman who appeared in the thirteenth episode. She is an aspiring artist that works with glass.

Saki makes a delivery to what seems to be an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town. She enters and finds an array of glass sculptures in a hall, leading to a kiln furnace that a woman sits by with an electric fan behind her. The next day, Saki takes Mai to visit the place and meet Asuka. Mai is enamored with the artist's works, but Asuka is too modest and feel she's not important enough to be called one. Saki rebuts that she should be proud of her work, but Asuka implies that the praise coming from her isn't that valuable. She's devoted to her work, putting glass in the furnace at least 1,500 times. Mai is speechless and full of wonder, which Asuka says is how she felt when glassblowing the first time, during her third year of college. However, she soon got troubled with real world issues and took up recycling work as an occupation, while she does glassblowing on the side. She believes the most important thing is to have a goal and steadily work towards it, never giving up as it might come true one day. Moerumba then appears, launching a blast at Asuka, but Saki pushes her out of the way, knocking her unconscious. The girls drag her body outside before transforming to fight. After the battle, Asuka wakes up, only to find the girls missing, as they are in the Land of Fountains restoring a part of it. When they return, they find Asuka working on a new glass sculpture that turns out to resemble the defeated Moerumba, an image she claims to have seen in a dream. It soon melts, returning to its original form as Saki put it. Asuka then offeres the girls tea.

Asuka has shoulder-length bluish-black hair that she wears a pink bandana over. A note on her character sheet states that she has shapely eyebrows of which the ends tend to droop down. She is also said to be 28 years old. (pg. 53).[1] She wears a long-sleeved white shirt with what seems to be red forearm covers, blue jeans, and black shoes.

She is voiced by Soumi Yoko, who also voiced Arachnea in Yes! Pretty Cure 5. She shares her given name with Takizawa Asuka from Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure.

Mr. Tanabe[]

FwPCSS Tanabe fullbody

Mr. Tanabe (田辺先生)? is a math teacher at Yuunagi Junior High. He appeared in the fourteenth episode.

When Michiru and Kaoru transfer to Class 2B, they sit for his math class. Tanabe writes a simultaneous equation on the board and asks the class if anyone can solve it. He notes to the Kiryuu sisters that they might have learned this at their previous school, to which the girls say they didn't, so he says he'll privately teach them later. As he goes back to teach the class, Michiru and Kaoru skim their workbooks and figure out the solution, to which the latter raises her hand and provides it, surprising Tanabe.FwPCSS14 Later, he proctors a math test for 2B, pacing around the classroom. Michiru and Kaoru use some of their power to intimidate Flappy causing him to open up from his pouch and scream, forcing Saki to quiet and cover for him, which causes Tanabe to give her a dirty look.FwPCSS22

Tanabe is a slouched man with blackish-gray hair cut into a slight mullet shape. He usually has his eyes closed, but when they open, they're thin and small. He wears glasses and a full gray suit with dark brown shoes. He looks similar to vice-principal Kometsuki of Verone Academy from Futari wa Pretty Cure and its sequel.

He is likely voiced by Watanabe Hideo, who also voiced Korone and the Uzaina this season. Because his name is not listed in the credits, it comes from the Memory Book included with the first volume of the Futari Pretty Cure Splash Star DVD-BOX (pg. 41).[1]

Ms. Okai[]

FwPCSS Okaifullbody

Ms. Okai (岡井先生)? is a Japanese teacher at Yuunagi Junior High.

She first appeared in the fifteenth episode, where during her class, she reads the Chinese proverb, "in spring, one sleeps as if there's no dawn to wake up to" (春眠暁を覚えず)?. However, the three softball girls in 2B, Saki, Yuuko, and Hitomi, actually are asleep during her lesson. Okai gets annoyed and specifically calls out the softball girls, she tries to slam her book on their heads, but they each catch it in their sleep, exasperating her. In another episode, she makes Saki read the proverb, "there's no use crying over spilled milk," (後悔先に立たず koukai saki ni tatazu)? but she mispronounces it as "ato ume saki ni tatazu," so she chides her for not being prepared for her class. She then calls on Mai to explain the meaning, but Mai, lost in thought, repeats the phrase instead. At first, Okai believes she wasn't paying attention, only for Saki to whisper to Mai that she needs to explain the meaning, which Mai does perfectly, falsely reassuring the teacher.FwPCSS17

She has dark brown hair cut in a bob with short, straight bangs. She wears a white coat with a pink sweater vest underneath, and beneath that, a white collared shirt, a white pencil skirt, dark white tights, and white shoes.

In the two times Okai appears in the season, she introduces a proverb that relates to the episode or scene. In the fifteenth episode, the proverb about a deep sleep happens as Saki and her softball teammates sleep in her class. In the nineteenth episode, the proverb about not being able to change the past happens as Mai feels guilty about Choppy breaking her mother's haniwa doll.

Shimizu Aki.

FwPCSS Yamaguchi fullbody

Yamaguchi Mari.

Shimizu Aki (清水亜紀)? and Yamaguchi Mari (山口真理)? are characters that appeared in the thirty-eight episode. Shimizu is an actress and Yamaguchi is an idol.

A television crew has come to the Land of Greenery, filming on the beach for a drama. Hitomi drags her friends to see it, as it seems everyone in town is doing the same thing. Hitomi notes that the women being filmed are the famous actress Shimizu Aki and idol Yamaguchi Mari. Kizaki, the chief of the talent agency that discovered Shimizu and Yamaguchi, also appears on the set. They begin to film the beach farewell scene, where Yamaguchi's character apologizes to Shimizu's for not letting her know about her plans to leave the city, to which Shimizu's character says that no matter where she is she'll always support her. The scene acts as a parallel to the overall episode, where Saki mistakenly believes she has been recruited as an idol, and thus will need to leave the town, causing conflicting feelings for Mai.

Shimizu has shoulder-length dark brown hair and wears a blue dress, what seems to be a red seashell necklace, a bracelet on her left arm, and white flats. According to the storyboard notes, Shimizu is said to be 25 years old and resembles actress Matsu Takako. Yamaguchi has chestnut-colored hair cut in a bob, wears a white collared and sleeveless shirt, short gray pants, and pink shoes. The storyboard notes say she is 17 years old and resembles actress Nagasawa Masami (pg. 53).[1]

Shimizu Aki's full name is likely loosely based on former Berryz Kobo member, Shimizu Saki (清水佐紀)?, with almost the same characters making up Aki's name. Yamaguchi Mari's full name is likely loosely based on former Morning Musume member, Yaguchi Mari (矢口真里)?, also using most of the same characters. Shimizu Saki and Yaguchi Mari voiced themselves in the second Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart film, as well as performing a few songs for the film including the ending theme.

Shimizu was likely voiced by Okumura Akemi, who also voices Kiryuu Kaoru for most of the season, and Foop. Shimizu shares her given name, Aki, with Momoi Aki from HUGtto! Pretty Cure. Yamaguchi was voiced by Ise Mariya, who also voices fellow idol, Kasugano Urara in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and its sequel. Yamaguchi shares her given name, Mari, with Madoka Mari from Doki Doki! Pretty Cure.

Kizaki was the one that discovered actress Shimizu Aki and idol Yamaguchi Mari. While participating in a shooting of a scene on a beach in town, he notices Saki, who drops a bag with Moop and Foop in it, commenting that they're cute. After the shooting, he goes over and asks to speak to "the girl who dropped her bag," handing her his business card and tells her to think it over, as staff calls him over for other matters. Saki spends the episode unsure of how to reject his offer, but it turns out, he was actually more interested in the "things" that fell out of her bag, as he wanted to decorate the room of his main character with Moop and Foop, the things he actually called cute. The two fairies reject his offer, however.

Kizaki has short dark brown hair, wears a white coat with a light pink dress shirt underneath, beige dress pants holstered by a belt, and brown dress shoes. According to the storyboard notes, Kizaki is said to resemble actor Ishida Junichi (pg. 53).[1]

According to his business card, Kizaki represents a talent agency with the word "Splash" in it, but it's unclear if it's just the one word or if there is a word before it, as his thumb obscures a part of the card.

He is likely voiced by Morikawa Toshiyuki, who also voices Goyan this season. His full name is given from the business card he hands Saki. He shares his given name with Nakano Mitsuru from Heartcatch Pretty Cure!

Yanagida Kunikichi[]

FwPCSS Kunikichifullbody

Yanagida Kunikichi (柳田国吉)? is a man that appeared in the thirty-ninth episode. He is a former senior scholar of folklore.

When Kenta and Miyasako accidentally came across the fairies in the grove, they are shocked and run back. At school, they tell everyone, and word spreads around quickly. Outside the Hyuugas' bakery, a small crowd gathers around an older man, Yanagida, who examines the sketch Miyasako made and declares them as the mythical Miminga. Yanagida used to teach ethnology at university, and as he continues to ramble, the crowd disperses in search of the Miminga. Once he finishes talking, he notices everyone has gone, which irritates him. The next day, the kids, their parents, and Yanagida go Miminga hunting. A disguised Kintoleski wonders what's going on, as Yanagida walks over and explains the Miminga, but like before, Kintolesky walks off before listening to the whole thing, again irritating him. Eventually, once the battle is over, Saki and Mai cover for the fairies by using puppet lookalikes to claim they were practicing for a show out in the grove. When the group wonders who to blame, Yanagida scolds them for not fully listening to what he had to say, that Miminga are actually a work of fiction. At the end, he walks away, continuing to doubt their existence, only for an actual Miminga to appear behind his back without him noticing.

Yanagida is an older man with gray hair that goes down to his neck. He wears a light gray haori jacket over a blue kimono.

He is voiced by Sonobe Keiichi, who voices Papaya in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and its sequel, Shirabe Otokichi in Suite Pretty Cure♪.

Despite this, Kazuya does appear at the Hyuugas' bakery, but he has brought a girl from his school with him, who is already familiar with the bakery and notes that they make the best cakes. They leave shortly after. Seeing Kazuya with the girl gives Saki the wrong idea, and makes her feel distraught and jealous. Once the battle is over, and the bakery closes for the day, Kazuya appears at the Hyuuga household, noting he slipped out his classmate's party midway through to let Saki know everyone thought their cake was delicious. His classmate had preordered a cake and he went with her to pick it up earlier, referring to the girl he was with. Kazuya also notes that she plans on bringing her boyfriend tomorrow, which relieves Saki that she's already taken by someone else.FwPCSS45
