Nodoka's Choice! Something To Protect (のどかの選択！守らなきゃいけないもの Nodoka no Sentaku! Mamoranakya Ikenai Mono?) is the 42nd episode of Healin' Good♥Pretty Cure and is the 824th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.
Summary[]
Nodoka blames herself for rejecting Daruizen. Meanwhile, Daruizen is trapped and has no other choice but to evolve again...
Synopsis[]
Everyone notices that Nodoka is distracted during breakfast. They worry she is unwell when she barely touches anything, and her parents offer to let her stay home from school. To avoid worrying them further, Nodoka claims that she had a bad dream. She takes off shortly after, reflecting on her encounter with Daruizen.
Meanwhile, Daruizen has managed to seek shelter within a sewer. With barely any strength left all he can do is lay in silence.
During lunch, Hinata and Chiyu have become aware of Nodoka being off. She's been very clumsy and isn't thinking straight, she even forgot her lunch. Or so they were told, when Rabirin appears and informs them that this is untrue. The girls worry that something happened to her and Rabirin wants to say something, but she didn't entirely witness it and Nodoka doesn't want to speak about it. She feels saddened because Nodoka is secretive around her at times like this, and she realizes they may not be as close as the others assume.
Shindoine has been searching for Daruizen but so far she hasn't been able to. She offers herself to King Byogen in his place but he refuses, saying she is too faithful a servant. He wants to take in those who can't be trusted first. This encourages Shindoine to keep looking and she rushes off.
Queen Teatinu is approaches by Liyon and Trigon, who ask about King Byogen's revival. She worriedly confirms it to be true and asks them to gather reinforcements. She decides they must head to Earth very soon.
Rabirin approaches Nodoka after she gets home from school. She sits down and Nodoka becomes aware she is saddened, and Rabirin is correctly able to deduce that Nodoka wanted to help Daruizen. But because she was there and its her mission to purify the byogens, she didn't. She offers to support Nodoka and her decision; but Nodoka disagrees. That wasn't why she rejected to help Daruizen- it's because she is selfish. She was scared of returning to how things were in the past, when she was sick and in pain. She couldn't have overcome it if her resolve wasn't as strong as it was, and it helped to shape her into who she is today. But if choosing not to be hurt again means she is being greedy then so be it. Nodoka begins to cry as Rabirin remarks on how useless she is. She can't understand her partner at all, and she asks Nodoka to honestly tell her how she feels about the situation. Nodoka admits that she feels as though she should but she does not want to. Rabirin assures her that its fine for her to put her health first, she doesn't owe Daruizen anything and shouldn't feel bad about her decision. There's no reason for her to suffer, and she will continue to protect her against anyone who says otherwise.
Daruizen takes out some Mega Parts he has on hand. He isn't sure if they will help him any, but its better to try than to do nothing and wait for King Byogen to find him.
Asumi and Latte come by with some tea for Nodoka when suddenly Latte becomes ill. The girls are worried as she reveals that the one crying is something she can't identify. She never felt this before. The girls meet up with the others and the group head towards the lookout, where they find people running away in a panic as a mysterious figure looms over them. The girls are alarmed upon realizing its Daruizen and Chiyu deduces he took in more Mega Parts, but unlike Guaiwaru he wasn't able to handle it well and it overtook him. Rabirin quickly comes to Nodoka's side to tell her that its not her fault.
The girls transform into Pretty Cure quickly become targeted by flower-like bullets shot at them. He attacks Grace and Earth comes to her side after they realize he could be trying to get back into her body. The trio use their attacks as Grace keeps distant, but she hears him cry out in pain and beg for her help, distracting her. Rabirin tells him off and Grace asks Daruizen what he plans on doing when he can recover, and for long he would make her sick again. This distraction allows the girls to attack him and he finds himself unable to give her a proper answer. Grace refuses to help him on the grounds that he caused her so much pain, and not just her but many other lives. She can't trust him and she doesn't want to be used; her body and soul belong to her.
The girls transform and use Final Healin' Good Shower to purify Daruizen. He falls unconscious on the lookout as they float down towards him, dismayed that they were unable to fully heal him. Shindoine reveals she is there and she summons King Byogen having located their missing comrade. Everyone in town can see the King and they become frightened. He complains over being unable to take in a stronger version of Daruizen, but he decides not to linger on it and absorbs him, allowing him to transform into an even better form.
Shindoine is delighted as he goes on to introduce himself as Neo King Byogen. Intimidated as they are, the girls and the Healing Animals refuse to stand for this and they promise to protect everyone. Neo King Byogen makes fun of such a claim as he recalls Daruizen being refused, but Grace points out that it was his doing that forced him to that point. She tells him that he has no right to judge her or anyone else, and she will do everything she can to purify him.

- This episode initially received negative attention from a huge number of fans, due to them believing Nodoka is wrong for not redeeming a villain. However, Ikeda Yoko revealed in the Healin' Good♥Pretty Cure Official Complete Book that she was shocked to know this episode gained so much negativity. Ikea Yoko also said Nodoka made this decision to preserve her healthy body and life, and not all villains like Daruizen can be redeemed regardless of their good looks.
