- For the Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure!! ~MIRAI DAYS~ character, see Ire.
Ira (イーラ)? is one of the members of the Selfish Trio, and the youngest. He first appears in episode 1, along with Marmo.
Bio[]
Appearance[]
Ira has light blue hair and yellow eyes. Like the rest of the trio, he has bat wing-like objects behind his ears. He wears a dark purple jacket with a high collar over a red shirt, grayish-black pants that stop at his knees, a red choker around his neck, and red and black boots.
Personality[]
Ira has a playful personality, though he mostly does not like admitting his defeats. He often acts like a bratty kid, and the Selfish Trio's two adult members call him a "kid" at points due to this. He is also known for getting angry easily, such as when Marmo uses the Jikochuu, which he created as a distraction so she could sneak up on Cure Sword. He often takes out his anger by bowling in the Selfish Trio's bowling alley hideout.
Despite his flaws, Ira has displayed a certain level of honor, such as when he saves the Cures from Gula. Whether it is his gratitude or alleged crush on Rikka that motivates him to be honorable, Ira does have a soft spot specifically for Cure Diamond, as much as he is unwilling to admit so.
Relationships[]
- Hishikawa Rikka: Although both he and Cure Diamond are rivals, Ira called her an "Angel" in episode 26, which hints that he may like her. In the second to final episode, he is shown protecting her from a Jikochuu. His motivation for fighting her is likely because of his own fear of losing, while trying to deny his crush for her.
- Marmo: His colleague, who is usually seen being his work partner. Marmo frequently mocks him for being a kid and teases him about his potential crush on Rikka/Cure Diamond. However, Ira and Marmo share mutual agreement on disliking their boss Bel, despite their arguments.
- Bel: His boss. Like Marmo, Ira dislikes Bel for his cruelty, bossiness, and laziness towards him.
Etymology[]
Ira is named for the Latin/Spanish/Italian/Portuguese word for "wrath," one of the seven deadly sins.
History[]
Ira is the first member of the Selfish Trio to appear, by calling out a crab Jikochuu at Clover Tower to cause enough trouble to lure out Cure Sword, who was the last known remaining Pretty Cure at the time. Once Sword appears, he is interrupted by Marmo, who has created a second crab Jikochuu to try to destroy Sword herself. They are both foiled when Mana becomes Cure Heart. Ira continues to attack Cure Heart throughout the first few episodes and has been foiled by the emergence of both Cure Diamond and Cure Rosetta, but he continues to be active.DDPC01
Throughout the season, Ira and the other Selfish Trio appear frequently to attack the Cures in order to capture Ai and serve King Jikochuu.
Ira gets shocked by lightning
After Leva and Gula mock Ira in the Selfish Trio's hideout, Ira leaves in frustration. While flying in the sky, Ira is struck by a lightning bolt and falls into the sea. The next day, Rikka and Raquel find Ira washed up on the shore unconscious. Despite knowing the danger, Rikka decides to help him. When Ira wakes up, he had amnesia and couldn't remember anything, so Rikka takes Ira to her home to look after him. After being protected by the Cures, namely Cure Diamond, from Leva and Gula, Ira, in an attempt to protect the Cures, regains his memories after hitting his head. He decides to temporarily join the Cures and blows them away from Gula's punch. After seeing that the Cures are safe, Ira leaves for a mysterious place where he takes off his bandages, indicating that he has recovered from his injuries.DDPC26Since this episode, Ira has developed a potential crush on Rikka/Cure Diamond, despite returning to his role as a villain.
Ira later receives a Blood Ring from his boss Bel. However, he is eventually forced to give up the ring when Bel decides to become Super Bel.DDPC35
After the Cures defeat Bel, Ira is last seen looking at Rikka longingly before Marmo urges him to leave. He then disappears with Marmo and mouse Bel into the sunset.DDPC49
Abilities[]
Ira, like the other members of the Selfish Trio, has the power to turn people's selfish thoughts to monsters called Jikochuu. He can also create powerful gusts of wind and a large number of tiny purple daggers, both of which he can throw at his enemies.
Trivia[]
- Ira is only ever shown taking the Psyches of men to summon Jikochuus.
- While his name remains unchanged in Glitter Force Doki Doki, it is pronounced differently. In the Japanese version, Ira is pronounced "Ee-rah"; while in the dub, it's pronounced "Eye-ruh".
- When they were initially revealed in magazine preview scans, the Selfish Trio had different color schemes. Ira had a darker complexion than his final design, and purple eyes. The red and purple parts of his outfit were also swapped.
