Jikochuu

Jikochuu (ジコチュー, Jikochū)^? (known as Distains in Glitter Force Doki Doki dub) are the main monsters of Doki Doki! Pretty Cure that are created by capturing the Psyches of people that have thought of doing something selfish.

With the use of Janergy, the Selfish Trio can turn a person's Psyche black with selfishness if the person thinks even just one selfish or evil thought, while Regina can turn anyone into a Jikochuu even without any selfish thoughts. Usually, the character would have a selfish thought, causing the darkness in their Psyche to spread, but second guess themselves right after before the Selfish Trio member convinces the target to keep thinking selfish thoughts, making the Psyche easier to extract.

Jikochuus can be defeated by the basic purification attacks of the Pretty Cures. Unlike other monsters, Jikochuus are not formed from an object. When the Psyche is captured, it develops bat wings. The villain then permits the black Psyche to expand three times before it explodes, resulting in the appearance of the Jikochuu. After the Psyche is taken from the victim, a black hole shaped like a heart is left in their chest.

The Jikochuus are voiced by Iwasaki Masami (岩崎正美, Iwasaki Masami)^? in the original version, while having numerous voice actors in the English dub.

Appearance

Almost all Jikochuus have the same adornments. They have yellow eyes with black irises, a black heart with grey outlines, and dark bat wings. Jikochuus are the kind of monster that is born from selfish thoughts. (Example: Cut-in-line in Japanese is "横入り" which is crab.)

The color of the Jikochuu's body depends on who made them. When most of them are defeated, they turn black with their eyes turning into pink hearts as they say "Love!" three times before disappearing, and the purified Psyche flies back to its original owner, and the hole in his/her chest disappears.

In episode 27, it was shown that Selfish Deputies, in this case Leva and Gula, can combine their powers and summon a combination Jikochuu which has two times the size and five times the power of a normal Jikochuu.

In episode 32, after Bel gave Ira and Marmo Blood Rings from the deputies' Janergy to make the Jikochuus more powerful. These Jikochuu had red eyes and two black hearts on their body.

Etymology

The name of Jikochuu comes from "Egocentrism", which is Jikochūshin (自己中心, Jikochūshin)^?^[1], in Japanese.

Their name in the English dub Glitter Force Doki Doki, Distain, comes from the English word "disdain", which is defined as "the feeling that someone or something is unworthy of one's consideration or respect".^[2]

Trivia

Like the Desertrians from Heartcatch Pretty Cure!, the Jikochuu are created from peoples' hearts (Psyches) and speak the person's thoughts. However, Jikochuu feed off of greed and passion while Desertrians feed off of envy and low self-esteem. Also, when the target for a Desertrian has his or her heart taken, the body is put in a glass ball, while Jikochuu targets just collapse and have a black heart mark.
- Also, Desertrians are usually people who were important in the episode, while Jikochuu are usually people who aren't important at all, which explains why these victims usually appear only for a few seconds in a single scene.
Just like Desertrians with Dark Bracelets, and Hyper Akanbes, the villains can transform into Jikochuu to fight the Cures. If they do become a Jikochuu, it will cause pain and anger and absorb life from its user.
In Glitter Force Doki Doki, instead of saying "Love!" three times, Distain say something nice about themselves before disappearing.
