The hard times have caused him to develop an alcohol addiction, as in one scene, he is shown sitting in his living room with several empty cans of beer on the table.
One day, at school, Rumi tells Nozomi that she's transferring out of Plaisir Academy to the countryside where her grandmother lives due to her dad's company having fallen on hard times, and her mom having split up with him. Later, Nozomi goes to the Katagiris to make them reconsider transferring out Rumi, but she learns from the girl's father that he and his wife have divorced. Once Rumi is asleep, her father, drunk, sits in the living room, muttering that no one is coming to save him so they should just leave him alone. Suddenly, a Shadow appears from behind, scaring and knocking him unconscious.

The next day, Rin wakes up late for the competition, and takes a taxi to her workplace. While in the car, she receives a text from her boss, asking where she is. Rin arrives in time, as her boss says she's counting on her. However, the presentation doesn't go that well for Rin.
