Memories Of The Heart (ココロノキオク Kokoro no Kioku)? is the 3rd episode of Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~.
Summary[]
Nozomi suddenly changed into her middle-school self and transformed into a Pretty Cure, then fought off the Shadows. Even though disaster was avoided, the purpose of the Shadows and why Nozomi was able to transform into a Pretty Cure again remain shrouded in mystery. Meanwhile, Karen, who became a doctor, has been facing her own troubles recently.

Synopsis[]
At the hospital, Karen visits Shinozaki Nana, a high school sophomore who fractured her tibial shaft and is recovering from surgery. Karen tries to get Nana to prepare for physical therapy, but Nana angrily rejects her request.
That night at the restaurant, the group discuss how Nozomi transformed into Cure Dream the night before to fight against the Shadows. As Nozomi got ready to explain everything, Rin notes how Nozomi turned back into a middle schooler when she transformed. Urara and Karen then ask her how it had affected her. Suddenly, an ambulance passes by the restaurant and Karen checks her phone, worried about one of her patients, but she says she can handle it.
The next day, Karen attempts to take Nana to her physical therapy session again, but Nana, now in a wheelchair, still does not want to go, even though Karen tells her not exercising her joints daily would cause atrophy. Karen assures her that she will be able to run and participate in track and field again in a year once she completely heals, but a still upset Nana throws a pillow at Karen and tells her to leave before crying. During a conversation with another doctor about Nana, Karen wonders why she is resisting so much, but insists that she can handle it. As Karen leaves, she notices what turns out to be a Shadow's presence.
Walking home, Karen tries to convince herself that she can help Nana. Kurumi then meets up with Karen and asks her if they can go to dinner together, and she accepts. While eating, Kurumi complains about work and what her boss is forcing all the secretaries to do. Yuuko then gives Kurumi a Big Apple, and she proceeds to drink several of them. Kurumi becomes drunk as a result and Karen takes her back home, covering for her by telling Sakamoto that Kurumi just wanted to sleep over.
After Karen helps take Kurumi's makeup off, Kurumi turns back into Milk and Karen tucks her in. Milk then tells her she likes Big Apples because they remind her of the applesauce Karen fed her a long time ago when she fell ill. She then tells Karen she loves her before falling asleep, and Karen remembers that taking care of Milk back then inspired her to become a doctor.
The next morning, Karen attempts to use a wheelchair to find out how it feels like before visiting Nana again. She tells Nana that she doesn't have to do her physical therapy today and instead gives her some books and CDs, including one by her parents. Karen mentions how she barely saw her parents because they were always traveling around the world performing concerts, and how she thought becoming student council president would help her be more dependable, but she bottled up her loneliness. However, she was able to overcome it thanks to her friends.
Karen and Nana then go outside, where Nana finally opens up to Karen, telling her how she determined she was to become the captain of her track and field team. Nana ended up pushing herself too hard, which caused her right foot to hurt, but she ignored it at first. Then, while jumping hurdles, she fell and broke her tibial shaft, resulting in her current situation. Nana then starts to cry knowing she can't rejoin the team because she will graduate by the time it heals.
As Karen comforts Nana, the bell in the tower rings again, causing some people's silhouettes to get attacked again, turning into Shadows. Karen goes to check on some of the victims' pulses while several Shadows surround her, which she evades while trying to find Nana's room, where more of them await. Meanwhile, Kurumi senses something is wrong and tries to get to the hospital.
Some of the Shadows manage to sneak inside Nana's room as she sleeps, but Karen protects Nana and would not allow the Shadows to hurt anyone. This causes another Time Flower to bloom, reverting Karen back to a teenager and allowing her to transform into Cure Aqua. She manages to defeat some of the Shadows, but is quickly overwhelmed. Kurumi finally reaches the hospital and transforms into Milky Rose to free Aqua and throw the rest of the Shadows down to the floor below. The two then use Sapphire Arrow and Metal Blizzard to destroy them. The shadows return to the victims' bodies as they all wake up. That morning, Karen goes to check on Nana again, who tells her that she is ready to start her physical therapy, much to Karen's delight.
That night, back at the restaurant, Saki and Mai are having a conversation about bread when they overhear Nozomi and her group talking about Karen and Kurumi transforming again. After Karen explains why she did so, Saki and Mai ask the group who they were before they all recognize each other and cheer.

Trivia[]
- This episode reveals that a fairy's original form doesn't usually undergo drastic changes in their adulthood, unlike their human form. This is exemplified with Kurumi/Milk, when she de-transforms back into a fairy after being too drunk.
- Saki and Mai meeting and recognizing the Yes! 5 girls shows that their previous meetings from the Pretty Cure All Stars movies are canon, and that they remember one another.
