Kowaina (コワイナー, Kowaina)^? is a regular monster in Yes! Pretty Cure 5, serving the Nightmare. They are capable of possessing inanimate objects and Pinkies, and can also take objects from paintings to make them real.^YPC501

Etymology

• The name is a pun of the Japanese adjective "kowai na" (怖いな, "kowai na")^?, which means "frightening".

Trivia

• Unlike previous monsters, Kowaina is capable of growing its own limbs when possessing objects, instead of only taking advantage of the possessed item.
• Kowaina is never called by name in the anime, unlike other monsters.
• Kowaina is the first monster in the Pretty Cure franchise to be voiced by a woman. It is followed by the Desertrian from Heartcatch Pretty Cure! and the Yaraneeda from Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure.
