Lian

Lian (リアン Rian)^? is a famous archaeologist in Magic World in the Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! series. He is Lilia's husband and the father of Izayoi Liko and Liz.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

Lian is a tall man with slightly tanned skin. He has short indigo hair with a mustache and a pointy beard. He also has purple eyes and wears a gold monocle over the right eye. He wears a light blue suit with dark green accents and gold buttons along the front and a white collar shirt underneath. He also wears tan pants tucked into knee-high brown boots. He also wears a dark blue cape with a blue mantle lined in gold with a gold clasp in the front.

In ~MIRAI DAYS~, he now wears an additional pair of white gloves for his hands as part of his outfit.

Personality[]

Lian is a serious man who is professional at his job, which sometimes make him extremely engrossed at his task and ignore his surroundings. However, beneath his tough exterior, he is a kind and caring man who cares for his family deeply.

Relationships[]

Izayoi Liko: His youngest daughter. When he visits Liko and her friends for the first time, he seems more interested in learning about the Linkle Stones than wanting to spend time with Liko, which upsets her. However, during the battle, he watches his daughter get beaten and steps in to defend her, only to get injured himself, which angers Cure Magical. After the battle, he tells her about how the spirits of the Linkle Stones react to the Cures' emotions, and his relationship with Liko has improved.
Liz: His eldest daughter, who he is shown to be proud of.
Lilia: His wife. They have a mutually loving relationship.
Kouchou: He has a good relationship with Kouchou, who has told him about the Cures' identities.

Etymology[]

His name matches the "Li" ("Ri") pronunciation pattern of his family's naming scheme.

History[]

Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure![]

A younger Lian appears in a flashback in episode 6, when Liko was a baby.

He first appears in episode 22 speaking to Kouchou about the "horrible calamity" he was told to investigate. He visits the ruins along the edge of No Magic World and finds Labut's lamp that had been broken.

He makes his first full appearance in episode 33 when he was sent to investigate the Linkle Stones, Mofurun and the Rainbow Carriage. Throughout the investigation, he unintentionally makes Liko feel neglected due to him being too task-oriented. However, after spending time with Mirai's father, he begins to understand and recall that his daughter is more important, hence he risks and injures himself when the Cures are fighting against Benigyo. He then returns to the Magic World as Liko watches his departure.

He later shows up at Liko's birthday in episode 40 with Liz and Lilia. When Lilia is going to notice the Linkle Stones, he and the girls try covering them up, only to make his own wife use the Linkle Stones as decorations instead. He later leaves with his wife and eldest daughter that night, and is proud of who Liko has become.

He and Kouchou later witness the reappearance of Deusmast in episode 47 with tremendous shock. He is among the people who support the Cures during their final battle against Deusmast in episode 49. He also makes a cameo during the final episode.

Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure!! ~MIRAI DAYS~[]

A year after the final episode, Lian is informed by Kouchou that a new calamity is happening, and he arrives in the No Magic World to help Liko and Mirai protect Hisui from Ire. He gets noticed by Liko, who tells him to stop regarding her as a child, but he admits that he will always see her that way as a parent. He then enters the Space Field to help the Cures. After the battle, he finds the missing cat that the girls have been trying to find, and secertly helps them by leaving it on Mirai's balcony.^MTPCMD04

Lian is later sent by Kouchou to the No Magic World again to look after Hisui. However, he is unable to protect Hisui, after she casts her magic to make him leave her alone.^MTPCMD06 After Hisui's disappearance, Lian and Kouchou arrive in the No Magic World to investigate about Ire's hideout. Lian keeps the statue Ire has become inside his case for safekeeping, and for further investigation.^MTPCMD07 Unfortunately, Lian eventually gets trapped inside a statue to relive his past, after he is attacked by Chronosto.^MTPCMD09
