Madoka Aguri (円亜久里)? (or Natalie Miller in the English Dub Glitter Force Doki Doki) is one of the five main Cures in Doki Doki! Pretty Cure. She is a fourth-grader.

Aguri's alter ego is Cure Ace (キュアエース)?, or Glitter Ace in the Glitter Force Doki Doki Dub.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

In her group, Aguri appears to be the shortest and youngest member. She has burgundy eyes and long brown hair with her bangs pulled back. She typically wears a sleeveless red dress with white stripes around the bottom of the skirt and a white neckline with a ribbon at the center. Additionally, she sports magenta sneakers and white socks. In the winter, she opts for a red jacket with a white collar, paired with a black skirt and burgundy boots.

As Cure Ace, Aguri grows taller than the other Cures and wears pink makeup. Her eyes turn magenta and her thicker, longer hair is bright red, worn in one thick curl with two thinner curled segments, forelocks, and bangs brushed aside. She wears a gold pointed hairpiece with a winged bow adorned by a heart and white fabric, accenting her gold earrings and necklace. She wears a red and black scalloped dress with a white pointed petticoat. Over the dress is a white jacket with red detail lining and a pale pink sleeve cuff. On the chest is a gold heart with two, pale pink heart-shaped fabric, while sewn to the back is a large pale pink bow with a cape-like tail. She also gets white feathered wrist pieces with red straps and matching colored knee-length boots.

Personality[]

Aguri is composed, calm, and wise beyond her young years. She can be strict and expects others to follow the rules, so she can appear to be bossy and accidentally say hurtful things. However, she has an appreciation for good food, most notably sweets; such as a peach roll and Sebastian’s cake, both of which she described in great detail, and how she was a regular of a restaurant ever since being "drawn" in by their anmitsu.

She is known for speaking elegantly, such as saying "Bravo," when she eats something she thinks tastes good, and "Adieu" when departing.

Relationships[]

  • Ai: A fairy-like baby who summons Aguri's Cure Loveads to help her transform. Ai is also later revealed to be a part of Princess Marie Ange just like Aguri. Aguri generally cares about Ai, who regards her as an older sister figure.
  • Madoka Mari: Aguri's adoptive grandmother. Aguri would do anything to protect her.
  • Morimoto Eru: Aguri's schoolmate who she always protects against the bullies that make fun of her for her frizzy hair.
  • Regina: Regina is Aguri's rival, and technically her sister. The two were destined to fight each other until they decide to team up in order to save their father.
  • King Jikochuu/Trump King: Aguri's biological father who was consumed by evil selfishness and became King Jikochuu. At first, Aguri had to fight against him, but currently has a better relationship with him after he was restored to normal.

Etymology[]

Madoka ()? can mean circle or yen, the latter being the Japanese currency.

Aguri (亜久里)? is a name from the ancient times of Japan when male children were considered more important than female. It was normally used by parents who had many daughters but no sons, therefore was an incantation towards gods or Buddha, with the intent of having the named daughter be the last female child in the family. The Doki Doki! Pretty Cure Official Complete Book reveals that her name is actually an anagram hinting at her identity. The kanji for Madoka can alternatively be read as en, which when combined with a romanized Agri can be rearranged to spell Regina.

Her dub name Natalie comes from a Late Latin word that means "Christmas day".[1]

Her dub surname, Miller, means somebody who owns or works at a grain mill.[2]

Cure Ace is one of the four playing cards with a single mark or spot, but it also means a person who excels at a particular sport or other activity.[3]

The History Of Aguri And Regina Revealed[]

One year prior to the season, Princess Marie Ange fell ill to a terminal disease. Only the Eternal Golden Crown, one of the Three Sacred Treasures, had the knowledge to save her. However, the crown was being used to imprison the evil sealed away by the legendary Pretty Cure. Desperate to save his daughter, the king of the Trump Kingdom stole the crown but was consumed by the evil and transformed into the King Jikochuu. Unable to fight her father, Princess Marie Ange broke her heart into two parts: The part that loves her father, which is her bad side, and the part that wants to protect her people, which is her good side. Ange's body was then transformed into an egg which would later be born as Ai. The good side of Ange's heart was reborn as Aguri and was sent to earth while the bad side went back to King Jikochuu and was reborn as Regina.DDPC45

Epilogue[]

Cure Ace (キュアエース)? is Aguri's alter ego. Cure Ace represents love. As Cure Ace, Aguri has limited time to be in this form, five minutes at most. Later, by gaining the knowledge of her history from the Eternal Golden Crown, there's no limit for her to stay in this form. In Glitter Force Doki Doki, her introduction is "'A' for absolutely fabulous! I'm Glitter Ace!"

Transformation[]

To transform to Cure Ace, Aguri uses the Love Eyes Palette, and the power of Ai, who produces a Lovead to transform. Aguri places her Cure Lovead on it, grabs the make-up stick and taps the Royal Crystals placed on the palette. She creates her eye shadow and the heart in the middle flashes three times and then forms a shape of a golden bow that spins and starts the transformation. Madoka appears in a flash spinning around and growing up a bit, then creating flames that ignite her. Her costume appears from the flames and she introduces herself. She seems to be the only Cure that ages during transformation.
