Maphisto (魔フィスト)? is the main antagonist of the Fresh Pretty Cure! novel. He is a dark and mysterious figure who seeks to transform distress-ridden people into monsters called Fushiawase (フシアワーセ)?.

Bio[]

Appearance[]

Maphisto is described as a humanoid figure wearing a dark-hooded mantle that hides his features, with only his piercing blue eyes glowing beneath the hood. He is also described in having a mouth, so he is not a featureless entity. What he truly looks like underneath is yet to be known, as he is a dark fog monster.

Personality[]

He has a cunning and evil personality, having no hesitation in committing evil deeds and showing no mercy to those who oppose him. He also has a cautious side when executing his plans.

Etymology[]

Maphisto is likely named after a devil from medieval mythology, who was the one that took Faust's sold soul for himself.[1] This is similar to how he took over his host Aimi's body in order to become a powerful being on his own.

History[]

Maphisto's true identity is that he is an evil being born from the darkness of the heart of Love and Setsuna's homeroom teacher Kodo Aimi, making him the dark side of Aimi. However, his personality is completely different from the usually kind and nuturing Aimi. It can be said that Maphisto and Aimi are separate beings mentally.

Maphisto came into existence when Aimi was heartbroken with her fiancé, Kentaro calling off their engagement. As Aimi grew jealous of other's happiness, Maphisto was born from the darkness of her heart.

Since he and his host Aimi were connected, Aimi's consciousness disappears while Maphisto is active; but conversely, while Aimi is active, it becomes impossible for Maphisto to acquire his own free will. Also, if he is injured, Aimi will also suffer from the same fate.

From the above circumstances, in order to become a completely independent existence both physically and mentally from Aimi, Maphisto planned to become a perfect entity of his own right, by absorbing the energy of misfortune generated from miserable humans with the power of Fushiawase.

Soon enough, Aimi, who couldn't stand having Maphisto inside of her, was hospitalized. But Maphisto told her if she wants to be happy, she has to make others miserable. By sucessfully brainwashing her, he succeeded in completely taking over Aimi's body. After continuing to absorb the energy of her misfortune by turning the other patients into Fushiawase one after another, he evolved into his final form "Daima Fisto".

In the end, Maphisto, who is now "Daima Fisto", had a direct confrontation with the Fresh! Cures who have become Cure Angels. His evil power of the great misfortune he had gathered overwhelmed them and absorbed Cure Peach into his body. However, the darkness in Aimi's heart was healed when Kentaro's feelings reached Aimi after receiving the special attack "Pretty Cure Loving True Heart Fresh", which is the special move of the three Pretty Cure, excluding Cure Peach. Due to this powerful happiness-fueled attack, it eventually became difficult for Maphisto to exist, and he was killed off, but not without a death cry of him claiming that as long as there are unhappy people he will be resurrected someday.

Abilities[]

He has the power to sense any person's weakened heart.

Fushiawase[]

With his glowing blue eyes, he can induce a form of hypnosis upon his victims, allowing him to make them answer questions to bring out their unhappiness. After which, he makes them say a certain magical phrase, "I don't need happiness" and with that confirmation, a blackening darkness spews forth from his mouth to consume the victims, transforming them into monstrous Fushiawase.
