Nekoyashiki Mayu (猫屋敷まゆ)? is one of the four main Cures in Wonderful Pretty Cure!.
Mayu transforms into Cure Lillian (キュアリリアン)?. Together with Cure Nyammy, they form the duo Nyanderful Pretty Cure (ニャンダフルプリキュア)? until episode 30.
Bio[]
Appearance[]
Mayu has dark brown hair styled into a left-side ponytail and held by a teal scrunchie. Her eyes are burgundy. She wears a pale yellow top with two green buttons and a scalloped bottom, along with a long three-tiered skirt. The skirt has sections of white, pale green, and light green. She also wears a short teal jacket with sleeves that stop at her elbows. Her shoes are brown and pink with straps around the heel and light brown soles. She wears thick cuffed pink socks.
As a child, Mayu had lower twin tails tied by teal hairbands. Her regular outfit included a white long-sleeved blouse and a long teal skirt with pale green frills. For winter, she wore a pale green shawl with a pink ribbon, a pink floral patterned woolly hat, cyan mittens with white puffs, pink tights, and dull pink boots.
In the movie, Mayu wears a long light teal dress with a large teal collar with darker ruffles at the bottom and puffy held in teal bands with more ruffled lining at the bottom. The bottom of the skirt is slanted toward the left with a large green ruffle at the end and a teal ruffle on the other side. Her shoes are teal with a matching strap around the ankle and brown soles. On the left side of her waist is her Shiny Cats Pact pouch.
As Cure Lillian, Mayu's hair turns light teal and is styled into a slightly left ponytail that appears thicker at the top. She wears a teal headband with a small teal top hat featuring a purple band, a white frilly brim, and a pink bow in the back. Her eyes turn magenta and she wears dangling pearl earrings, along with a blue choker with a bow in the back. She also wears pink eyeshadow. Her dress is long and white with a teal stripe lining the skirt, and pink shoulder straps. The dress is shorter near the front and slanted towards the left. A teal and pink-striped band with white and teal ruffles line the top, along with a blue and pale yellow-striped bow featuring a green heart brooch in the middle. The cerulean sash is covered in the front by the bodice. Near the bottom of the skirt is a large teal and pink ribbon tied at the left with one part being longer than the other. She also wears white arm warmers with teal bands at the top and bottom and ruffles at the ends, as well as long light teal boots with cerulean toes and soles. Her boots are topped with teal ribbons around the top and magenta hearts in the middle.
In her Diamond Ribbon Style, her hair becomes longer and wavier and her hat turns into a pale pink round egg-like hat with a light purple jagged base, a teal heart on top, two wings with a teal bow on the left side, and one wing on the right. Her headband also has a multicolored horn-like accessory on the right. Her dress turns white with a light teal bodice that closes at the neck and is held with a teal choker that has jagged scalloped ruffles at the top and bottom. On her chest is a magenta, purple, blue, and teal ribbon with a diamond-shaped brooch lined in gold. White fabric covers the front part of the bodice. Her sleeves are loose and consist of teal and pink-striped ribbons with white jagged scalloped ruffles on the top and bottom. Around her waist is a teal and pink-striped sash. The top layer of her skirt remains slanted to the left and is white and scalloped with a teal and pink-striped ribbon lining the bottom and long bows with magenta hearts in the middle on each side, with both having one section longer than the other. The skirt has three more ruffled layers each with a darker shade of teal. A longer opened skirt appears over it with three more ruffled layers of different shades of teal and a fourth layer in the back. Her cuffs are white with teal scalloped ends and a teal bow in the middle. Her boots are long and white with a blue heart on each toe, two small blue buttons above the heart, teal bows in the back, and teal soles.
Personality[]
Mayu is a socially awkward girl who wants to make lots of friends but runs away from any social interaction. She is good at applying make-up, and sewing. Although initially timid, Mayu becomes braver due to her desire to help her friends. Mayu tends to get hyperfocused whenever she is knitting, to the point that she doesn't even hear whenever someone is talking to her.
Once Mayu has opened up to her friends, it's revealed Mayu can be quite mischievous, teasing Satoru about his crush on Iroha. Mayu is also very kind and patient, always willing to slowly help Yuki overcome her lone-wolf tendencies. Mayu even has a stubborn side, as shown when she refuses to let go of a Sea Turtle Garugaru, as she so desperately wants to help calm it down.
Relationships[]
- Nekoyashiki Yuki: Her pet cat. Mayu always depends on Yuki for comfort. She is always worried whenever Yuki is hurt or missing. Their relationship becomes strained when Yuki becomes overly protective, but they reconcile after Mayu decides to forgive Yuki.
- Inukai Iroha: At first, Mayu was interested in Iroha, but was too shy to approach her. However, she later manages to talk to Iroha, and eventually becomes her friend. She later learns of Iroha's identity as a Cure, and promises to keep that secret. She is also very supportive of Iroha's relationship with Satoru.
- Inukai Komugi: Mayu is quick to become friends with Komugi, although at first she was unaware of Komugi's secret of transforming into a human. She is shocked when she learns of Komugi's secrets, but later accepts them and promises Komugi to keep those secrets.
- Toyama Satoru: Through Iroha, Mayu becomes good friends with Satoru. Satoru is also the person who tells Mayu about the secrets of Niko Garden. Mayu is aware and supportive of Satoru's crush on Iroha, and continues supporting him after he and Iroha start dating.
- Mey Mey: Mayu is very respectful and kind towards Mey Mey. Although she sometimes will be tempted to touch his wool.
- Chiran Yuma: Her old friend from her previous middle school. Both Mayu and Yuma bonded over being shy, but eventually Mayu lost her after Yuma thought she was deliberately ignoring her. They later get to resolve their misunderstanding and start their friendship anew.
Etymology[]
Nekoyashiki (猫屋敷)?: Neko (猫)? means "cat"[1]. Yashiki (屋敷)? means "mansion"[2].
Mayu (まゆ)?: Without kanji, it's actually quite hard to tell what the name means. Mayu is actually a common girl name, but there is this one kanji that suits her knitting motif, "Mayu" (繭)?, which means "cocoon"[3]. Since a cocoon's shell is particularly made out of silk. Silk is a material that is used in knitting.
Lillian (リリアン)?: The name "Lillian" is likely an alternate spelling of "lily-yarn," (リリヤン)? a type of yarn used in knitting.[4] As cats are stereotypically known to play with yarn, this fits Mayu, the cat owner.
History[]
Meeting Yuki[]
When Mayu was in 4th grade, she accompanied her father to a winter village. When exploring the village, Mayu found Yuki, who was covered in dirt. At first, the cat was wary of her, but eventually, Mayu's kindness earned the cat's trust. In the end, Mayu got to adopt Yuki before she left with her father and named the cat Yuki.WPC10
Losing Her Friend[]
Back at her old middle school, Mayu once had a close friend named Yuma. When Yuma's birthday was coming up, Mayu decided to make Yuma a handkerchief with an embroidery that resembled Yuma's chinchilla. However, she became very focused for days, resulting in not hearing Yuma calling out to her. Days later, she found out Yuma had abandoned her and returned home crying. She then stopped making friends at her old middle school, before moving to Animal Town.WPC21
New To Animal Town[]
Having moved into her new house in Animal Town, Mayu approaches Yuki, her cat, who is sitting by the window. Mayu tells Yuki how she'll work hard to make lots of friends, but quickly hides when she sees a girl walking by her house. After the girl leaves, Mayu is hit by Yuki, causing Mayu to claim that she was just startled. Mayu then comments on how strange it was for the girl to introduce herself to Yuki.WPC01
Mayu later visits Friendly Animal Hospital & Salon to pick out a cute collar for Yuki, when Tsuyoshi starts speaking to her. Mayu starts to gush about how cute Yuki is, and how she'd look good with any ribbon or accessory. However, the conversation is cut short when Satoru and Iroha walk in, which causes Mayu to try to act like she's not there. Mayu then watches Iroha walk away with Satoru, recognizing Iroha as the girl from the other day.WPC02
Later, on the opening day of her mother's Pretty Holic store, Mayu meets Iroha and Komugi again. When putting make-up on Iroha, Mayu feels nervous around her, but begins to feel more comfortable when Iroha praises her. However, she seems unwilling with the idea of attending her new school, as she remembers how she was unable to make friends at her previous school. But after receiving a walk bag as a present from Iroha for her and Yuki, Mayu finally feels welcomed at her new home.WPC04
Going To School[]
Soon, Mayu starts attending her new school as a transfer student. Due to overthinking too much, she messes up her introduction. However, after being guided by Iroha around the school and interacting with the school's animals, she becomes more accustomed to her new school life. With that, she becomes more eager about going to school each day. WPC08 She also befriends Komugi, although Iroha runs away from her when she almost correctly guesses Komugi's secret.WPC09
Encounters With The Mysterious Girl And Her Own Wish[]
One day, when Mayu has finished buying milk for Yuki and is returning home, she meets a mysterious girl that appears from behind the Mirror Stone and warns her not to go to Mount Mirahashi.WPC11She also notices that Yuki has been going missing more and more often, so she tries finding her cat while having set up a camera to observe Yuki. She realizes the mysterious girl is Cure Nyammy, who protected her before.WPC12 Despite being saved by her own cat twice, Mayu is unable to make the connection, and keeps telling Yuki that she is eager to meet the girl again.WPC13
Sleepover With Iroha And Learning Secrets[]
When Yuki has overworked herself, Mayu is offered to have a sleepover with Iroha, while letting Yuki recover. At first, Mayu is hesitant, but decides to accept Iroha's offer after Yuki non-verbally convinces her. She then grows closer with Iroha and Komugi during the night.
The next morning, just as Mayu wakes up, she finds out that Komugi can talk. Confused and worried about Iroha and Komugi's safety, she heads outside to check on them, only for her to also discover that Komugi can transform into a human, as well as them being Pretty Cure. Satoru then tells Mayu about Niko Garden, which makes Mayu want to help them. Mayu is impressed when Friendy and Wonderful purify the Garugaru, and promises to keep their alter-egos a secret. However, Mayu isn't ready to become a Pretty Cure herself, as she is more content with having both Iroha and Komugi as her friends for now.WPC14
Mayu eventually became increasingly eager to help Iroha and hopes to be like the Cures herself, despite Cure Nyammy warning her not to get involved.WPC15 She eventually discovers that Yuki is Cure Nyammy when Yuki transforms in front of her to protect her from a tiger Garugaru. Mayu wants to apologize, but Yuki tells her not to. Later, Mayu is shocked when Yuki tells Iroha and Komugi to stop interacting with her.WPC17
Although originally happy to be able to talk to her cat and understanding why Yuki wants to protect her, Mayu becomes increasingly uncomfortable with Yuki dictating her every move, and aims to become braver herself. Eventually, she gets frustrated and tells Yuki to quit deciding for her. Shocked by her own frustration, Mayu runs off while still being upset.WPC18
Becoming Cure Lillian[]
After her argument with Yuki, Mayu reflects on how she has always been timid ever since she was a child, which prompted Yuki to always protect her. But thanks to Sumire showing her the lillian bracelet she made for her, Mayu remembers the love she has for Yuki, even though she is initially hesitant to believe so. She later finds out that Nyammy has been shrunken by the Hamster Garugaru, but insists on protecting Nyammy. Her newfound courage grants her the power to transform with the Shiny Cats Pact into Cure Lillian, and she succeeds in purifying the Garugaru after she saves it with Lillian Net and earns its trust. She then reconciles with Yuki after the battle.WPC19
Gaining The Amity Ribbon Tambourine[]
After becoming Cure Lillian, Mayu begs Yuki to visit Niko Garden with her. However, after watching Yuki reject Mey Mey and then run off, Mayu reveals that Yuki is still not used to interacting with others. Realizing that Nyammy isn't trying to hurt the Fox Garugaru, Lillian immediately knows that Nyammy wants to change. Lillian quickly protects Nyammy from the Garugaru before admitting how she is happy to be with her. With their hearts resonating, Lillian and Nyammy's Shiny Cats Pacts transform into the Amity Ribbon Tambourine, which they use to purify the Kirarin Fox. Mayu is then overjoyed when Yuki decides to enrol into Mayu's school.WPC20
Forming Nyanderful Pretty Cure[]
Mayu is happy that Yuki is in her class, but is troubled by Yuki's unwillingness to make new friends. When she realizes Iroha and Komugi are gone after she has finished her embrodiery, Mayu feels bad for ignoring them like how she unintentionally ignored Yuma. However, she is reassured by Satoru, who tells her that everything will be fine and she should trust him and their friends. Later, Mayu suggests Yuki that they can be their own duo "Nyanderful Pretty Cure", and together Lillian and Nyammy purify the Kirarin Panda by enlisting help from Wonderful. Afterwards, Mayu is satisfied to see how Yuki is becoming friendlier to Komugi and Iroha.WPC21
Reconciling With Yuma[]
Following her mother's suggestion, Mayu starts advertising Pretty Holic with Yuki as the shop's mascot on CureSta. Her advertising on CureSta eventually draws attention from her former friend Yuma, who visits Animal Town in hopes of apologizing to her. However, she unintentionally ignores Yuma again when she is concentrating on thinking about new advertising ideas, which causes Yuma to run away. After she and the other Cures manage to save Kotetsu from Zakuro, Mayu and Yuma finally get to resolve their misunderstanding, and start over as friends.WPC31

Cure Lillian (キュアリリアン)? is Mayu's Pretty Cure alias. She transforms using the Shiny Cats Pact. Lillian prefers not to hurt the Garugaru, and instead uses methods that will gently save them.
Transformation[]
- Pretty Cure! My Evolution!: The transformation starts with Mayu catching her Shiny Cats Pact and showing it off. The pact opens and Mayu smiles at her reflection before a curtain appears in the background. Mayu then says the transformation phrase while spinning around while sparkles coming from the pact surround her. The curtain drops to reveal a blue dimension with green aurora-like lights and vine-like designs. Mayu's hair is let down while a projection of Yuki as a cat leaps towards her, turning into the dial on her pact. She then puts eyeshadow on her fingers before applying it on her eyes, saying "Sparkles on my eyes"! This causes her hair to grown longer and turn light teal while ribbons wrap around her body, neck, and arms, forming her dress, choker, and arm warmers respectively. She then turns the dial on the pact revealing some lip gloss, which she again applies with her finger, saying "Cute lips"! Then, more ribbons wrap around her legs, forming her boots. Her earrings and headband then appear while her hair becomes styled on a ponytail. Two more ribbons appear forming her chest bow and the ribbon at the bottom of her dress. The Shiny Cats Pact lands inside the carry bag. Lillian then introduces herself before striking a pose and telling the audience to not be scared.

- Help! Kirarin Animal! (ヘルプ！キラリンアニマル！)?: A purification technique Cure Lillian uses to borrow the power of the Kirarin Animals. Lillian needs the Amity Ribbon Tambourine to use it.
- Amity Lumiere (アミティールミエール)?: A finisher Cure Lillian performs with Cure Nyammy. To perform it, she and Nyammy need the Amity Ribbon Tambourine.
- Eternal Kizuna Shower (エターナルキズナシャワー)?: A group finisher Cure Lillian performs with Cure Wonderful, Cure Friendy, and Cure Nyammy. To perform it, she and her teammates must be in their Diamond Ribbon Styles, and they need the Diamond Ribbon Castle.
- Premiere Kizuna Shower (プレミアキズナシャワー)?: A group finisher Cure Lillian performs with Cure Wonderful, Cure Friendy, and Cure Nyammy in the movie.
