Niko (ニコ )? is a major character and mascot in Wonderful Pretty Cure!. She is the creator and ruler of Niko Garden. Niko has special powers that the Niko Animals and Kirarin Animals do not have.
Bio[]
Appearance[]
In her egg form, Niko has a pink crystalline shell with a pink bow wrapped around the multi-colored horn and a heart-shaped gem on the knot. On the lower shell, she bears the crest found on the Wonderful Pact.
As a unicorn, Niko's fur is light purple, her inner green ears are heart-shaped, her hooves are turquoise, and her eyes are dark blue with light blue heart-shaped accents. Her hair is purple and light blue, and attached to a gold diamond crown is her horn which is pink, purple, blue, and green. She wears a white bow with a gold pendant attached.
As Unicorn Niko, Niko wears a rainbow colored ribbon crown with a purple heart and pink heart, as well as two beads of respectively blue and turquoise, adorned with frills of pale pink, purple, blue and teal. Her blue round earrings, necklace, and long cape are all pale blue. Her long white gloves are donned with two sets of pale blue pearls. For clothing, her layered dress is white, embellished with pale pink and lavender accents, and two ribbons of pink and purple with teal and blue accents. Her dark blue eyes also gain chartreuse and light blue shades, and pink pupils in this form. She also has long wavy light purple hair with cyan and pink hightlights.
Personality[]
Despite being reborn as an egg, Niko has shown to be quite quirky. Whenever Mey Mey tries to spend time with her, she would teleport to Iroha's room much to the butler's dismay and the girl's confusion.
Everyone loves her and calls her "Niko-sama" (ニコ様 )?. Although she looks cute, she is brave and dignified. She can be strict, but she is also kind, and cherishes all life. She can also be curious, and sometimes a bit of a showboat.
Relationships[]
- Mey Mey: Her butler. Mey Mey is extremely loyal and dedicated to Niko, to the point where he constantly referred to her as Niko-sama (ニコさま )?. Although Niko can sometimes be frustrated or angered by Mey Mey's carelessness, she still cares deeply for him.
- Inukai Iroha: Her current caretaker. As an egg, Niko would teleport to wherever Iroha is when she leaves Niko Garden. At first, Niko is wary of trusting Iroha's abilities after watching her struggle against Gaou's companions, but eventually comes to trust Iroha after seeing her resolve.
- Gaou: Niko has a complicated relationship with Gaou. Despite disapproving of Gaou's hateful methods against humans, Niko sympathizes with Gaou's sorrows and anger.
Etymology[]
Niko (ニコ )? is derived from a Japanese onomatopoeia "nikoniko" (ニコニコ )?, which means "smiling" or "grinning"[1]. It is also derived from the word "unicorn", a mythological creature resembling a horse with a horn and sometimes wings[2]. This refers to both her original and human forms, with the latter being her alias, Unicorn Niko.

Attempting To Save The Niko Animals[]
On a fine day, Niko Garden was suddenly shrouded in darkness. Niko witnessed the Niko Animals be turned into black beasts, also known as the Garugaru, by Gaou. Niko decided to seal the Garugaru into eggs, but she wasn't strong enough to save the animals.WPC29
Appearing As An Egg[]
Niko appears as an egg from the Niko Diamond after all nine Kirarin Animals have returned. Niko refuses to stay in Mey Mey's care, and continually teleports to Iroha's room instead.WPC24 Niko then proceeds to stay in Komugi and Iroha's care, where she is kept in the fridge during a heatwave,WPC26 is dropped into a random hole and swallowed whole by a Tsuchinoko Garugaru,WPC27 and glows in approval at Mey Mey when she was taken to visit Ookuma Farm.WPC28
Hatching From Her Egg[]
Niko's egg starts to continually glow one morning, where she hatches out of it in the Inukai's dog run. After introducing herself in a unique way, she is introduced to the girls and Satoru. Niko scolds Mey Mey for telling humans about herself and Niko Garden, but quickly calms down when she is informed that Mey Mey had tried to keep it a secret. After finding out that the girls became Pretty Cure to rescue Niko Garden animals, Niko is overjoyed. Niko then asks Iroha why she decided to help, and is confused when Iroha mentions her goal to befriend all animals. After inspecting the girls, Niko then declares she wants to return to Niko Garden. But before returning, she realizes Mey Mey gave the group the Kiraniko Trunk and proceeds to scold her butler again. After announcing her return to the Niko Animals in Niko Garden, Niko has tea with Mey Mey, Satoru, and the girls. Niko explains what happened to Niko Garden, and about Gaou's backstory. Shortly after, she follows the girls back to Animal Town because of an evil presence. Niko witnesses the Cures lose against Torame's Gaogaon, and Iroha slipping into a depressed state.WPC29
Lending Her Power[]
After the Cures' failure, Niko takes Mey Mey to the Mirror Stone, where she explains how greedy humans made it lose its shine by chasing the animals away. She says the wolves' anger was justified, but they were wrong for causing harm to humans and animals. She also adds that she plans to revoke the Cures' powers, and she is willing to take on Gaou by herself. However, she decides to lend the Cures her power in the form of the Diamond Ribbon Castle after witnessing their friendship, and decides to live with the Inukai family afterwards.WPC30
Revealing Her Human Form And Confronting Gaou[]
During Halloween, Niko is happy to see the smiles on the faces of the people and animals in Animal Town. However, when she senses Gaou's presence, she transforms into her human form to protect the girls and Satoru. Niko attempts to reason with Gaou, but after witnessing him turn Komugi into a Gaogaon, she uses a huge amount of her power to protect the girls. She then tells Gaou that even though humans can be selfish, she still chooses to trust them, and erases the darkness as she declares that she will do anything to stop him. After healing and releasing the affected bat, Niko tells Gaou that he shouldn't harm innocent animals to achieve his goal, but Gaou ignores her. WPC39
Abilities[]
- Strength Restoration: Niko can use the diamond on her horn to heal any tired animals who have been turned into Garugaru or Gaogaon.
- Translating: Niko can translate whatever an animal is trying to say using their sounds or body language.
- Diamond Barrier: As a human, Niko has the ability to summon a diamond-shaped barrier that protects the Cures.
- Transformation: Niko can transform between her human form and unicorn form freely.
