Psyches

Psyches (プシュケ, Psyches)^? are very important elements in the setting of Doki Doki! Pretty Cure, which represent human hearts.

A good Psyche.
An evil Psyche.

Characteristics and Powers[]

Psyches usually resemble pink heart-shaped brooches with white angel-like wings; however, when corrupted by selfishness from the Selfish Trio, also known as "The Mercenares" in Glitter Force Doki Doki, they develop bat-like wings.

When a person harbors strong selfish feelings, they usually attempt not to give in to them. But if one of King Jikochuu's minions is around, the Psyche is forcibly turned black, extracted from its owner, and used to create a Jikochuu. They return to their owners after being purified and saved by the Cures.

If a person's Psyche, such as Princess Marie Ange's, is divided, the split halves will gradually manifest into their own beings. These individuals are unable to be merged back together to their previous state as a full Psyche, due to them having their own Psyches developed.

Psyche is defined as the human soul, mind, or spirit.^[1]
Although both Heart Flowers from Heartcatch Pretty Cure! and Psyches are connected to human hearts, Psyches are usually stolen by the villains from people who have selfish or evil thoughts, while Heart Flowers are stolen from those who are envious or lack self-esteem.
Cure Heart is the only Cure to have her Psyche turned black (during the final battle against Bel).
In the English dub, Glitter Force Doki Doki, Psyches are simply called "hearts". When a heart is turned into a Jikochuu, it emits a "dark heartbeat" that the four fairies have the ability to sense.
