Rock, Paper, Scissors♪ It's Cure Peace!! (じゃんけんポン♪でキュアピース!! Jankenpon♪ de Kyua Pīsu)? is the 3rd episode of Smile Pretty Cure! and is the 392nd episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.

In the English dub, Glitter Force, it is called "We Want Peace! Glitter Peace!" and is the 3rd episode.

Summary[]

Akane and Miyuki encourage Yayoi to enter an upcoming Poster Design Contest but after she loses she starts feeling depressed. A new Cure is born during her time trying to repay their kindness.

Major Events[]

  • Akaoni makes his first attack for the Bad End Kingdom.
  • Miyuki and Akane's classmate Kise Yayoi awakens her power when bringing forth courage to protect them, allowing her to become Cure Peace and use Peace Thunder.

Synopsis[]

Kise Yayoi, a girl from Miyuki and Akane's class, is a crybaby and a weakling. However, she loves manga and anime and is really good at drawing.

One day, Miyuki and Akane are having lunch on the rooftop when they spot Yayoi sitting alone. Creeping up on her, they notice that she is in the middle of drawing a manga scene of superheroes. They praise her drawing and encourage her to show it to the rest of the class, but Yayoi is embarrassed for people to see her art. Yayoi asks them to keep it a secret, then runs away.

Class representative Aoki Reika asks for a volunteer to draw the class' entry for an upcoming poster competition. When nobody volunteers, Miyuki nominates Yayoi, to her surprise, but she accepts.

After class, Yayoi is skeptical that she will win, owing to strong competition: former winner and art club president Soga Tatsuya, shojo manga Mikawa, and talented portrait artist Narushima Harunobu. Miyuki encourages her to try her best. Quoting a lesson she learned from a picture book, "pictures are mirrors that reflect the heart", Miyuki believes Yayoi must be both kind and strong. Yayoi says she will try her best.

Yayoi begins drawing on the poster, with Miyuki and Akane helping out: Miyuki posts for the picture, and Akane brings okonomiyaki. Yayoi's poster is of a superhero Cleanpeaceman. She admits that she really did want to draw the poster, but was just too shy to put her own name forward.

A few days later, the results of the competition are announced. Soga won again this year, and Yayoi received only an honorable mention. Soga's classmates taunt Yayoi. She tears her poster off the wall and runs away.

Yayoi sits outside the school lamenting her failure when Akaoni suddenly appears, taunting her for being a weakling. He feeds off of her sadness to create a Bad End alternate reality and plunge everyone into sorrow, including Yayoi.

Miyuki and Akane appear. Akaoni taunts Yayoi's poster and crumples it up, which outrages Miyuki. Akaoni turns it into an Akanbe, and the two transform into Pretty Cure. They both use their finishing moves against the Akanbe, but both their Happy Shower and Sunny Fire are too weak, leaving them exhausted.

Happy yells at Akaoni for taunting Yayoi's poster, saying she will not forgive him for it. That causes Yayoi to snap out of despair, and she recognizes Miyuki by her voice. The Akanbe tries to attack Yayoi, but Happy and Sunny protect her, only to be knocked aside.

Remembering how her friends gave her courage before, Yayoi runs and stands before Happy and Sunny to protect them. Yayoi's strong wish to protect them grants her a Smile Pact, and with it, she transforms into Cure Peace.

Peace is thrilled to be a superhero and imitates Kamen Rider-style poses. However, she is still a timid girl deep down and runs away from the Akanbe in fear. In her panic, she unintentionally releases a bolt of lightning, striking the Akanbe and stopping it in its tracks.

Candy explains that Peace possesses the power of lightning and teaches her how to activate her finishing move. Charging up her Smile Pact, Peace performs her finisher, Peace Thunder, successfully purifying the Akanbe and obtaining a Cure Decor, the Rabbit Decor. Akaoni leaves, and everything returns to normal.

After the battle, Miyuki and Akane officially invite Yayoi to become a Pretty Cure, which she happily accepts. As a longtime fan of superheroes, Yayoi is excited to become one herself. Despite her crumpled poster, she is happy to have found some courage. She asks if she can start calling Miyuki by her given name, "Miyuki-chan," instead of the formal "Hoshizora-san." Miyuki happily agrees, and in her usual crybaby fashion, Yayoi bursts into tears from her overwhelming happiness.

Trivia[]

  • The voice-over at the beginning of this episode establishes that Miyuki is 14 years old. Second year middle school students would usually be 13 or 14 years old, with most students turning 14 by the end of the school year.
  • Mikawa has a resemblance to Tsubomi from Heartcatch Precure. Her poster can be seen to the right of Yayoi's.
  • First-place winner Soga Tatsuya is in class 2-1. Second place goes to class 3-3's Yamamoto Junichirou, who we don't see. Third place goes to portrait artist Narushima Harunobu from class 2-3. We never find out the first name of shojo manga artist Mikawa from class 1-1.
  • Miyuki's analysis of Yayoi's drawings reflecting her kind heart would later be explored in episode 41, which repeats several of the themes of this episode.
  • After she transforms, Cure Peace's series of poses resemble Kamen Rider style transformation poses. Later episodes would establish her as a fan of a superhero named Taiyouman.
  • Yayoi never throws the same Rock Scissors Paper hand two episodes in a row. Knowing this, it is possible for the viewer to never lose Rock Scissors Paper against Yayoi, since the preview at the end of episode 2 shows her throwing scissors.

Edits in Glitter Force[]

  • Kelsey describes her okonomiyaki as being "like Japanese pizza". However, the word "okonomiyaki" is later used in episode 22 (Episode 25 of Smile Pretty Cure!).
  • The names of Yayoi's opponents in the contest are changed.
    • Soga Tatsuya is renamed Cornelius.
    • Mikawa is renamed Naomi.
    • Narushima Harunobu is renamed Byron.
  • The dub changes who the posters belong to.
    • The third-place poster, which originally belonged to Harunobu, is attributed to Jonathan. We never find out who Jonathan is.
    • The second-place poster, which originally belonged to Yamamoto (who never appears), is attributed to Naomi.
    • The poster to the right of Lily's, which originally belonged to Mikawa, is attributed to Byron, who originally had the third-place poster.
  • In the original, when Cure Peace runs away, Candy says the Pretty Cure are legendary warriors and Cure Peace responds, "Even if you tell me that, I'm scared." In Glitter Force, Candy tells Lily the Glitter Force would never run away, but Lily couldn't help it, saying the Buffoon is scary.
  • At the end of the episode, Yayoi asks Miyuki if she can call her "Miyuki-chan" instead of "Hoshizora-san." In Glitter Force, Lily asks Emily if she can be her friend. This is most likely because the girls lack surnames in Glitter Force and in English, people are normally addressed by their first names.
