Synopsis[]

Two robots fight on the moon. The brave Robotter, piloted by the hero Takeru, finishes Warubotter off with his signature move, Ultra Robotter Punch. The scene is revealed to be an advertisement for a toy for a mecha anime, Tetsujin Senshi Robotter. Yayoi fangirls over it excitedly, but the other girls' reactions are mixed.

Miyuki shares Yayoi's excitement, but Nao and Akane aren't really interested in robots, and Reika is unfamiliar with the series. Regardless, Yayoi makes plans to buy the new toy upon its release tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Akaoni and Wolfrun are playing with their Robotter toys. Akaoni complains that he doesn't want to play as Robotter, because when they play, the hero Robotter always loses. Wolfrun combines the two halves of Warubotter and defeats Robotter. Majorina doesn't see why they like robots so much, but it gives her an idea for an invention. She picks up the Warubotter toy and throws it into her cauldron.

On the day of Robotter toy sale, the girls are surprised that the line is so long. Yayoi offers to fill the time by sharing Robotter facts, producing a Robotter Encyclopedia. Just then, Wolfrun and Akaoni arrive to buy a new Warubotter toy, but coincidentally bump into the Pretty Cure. Wolfrun summons Bad End Space, drawing Bad End energy from all the people in the line to buy Robotter.

Wolfrun taunts the girls with the villain Warubotter's catchphrase. Yayoi recognizes it, and returns with Robotter's catchphrase. She leads the girls into transforming into Pretty Cure.

Majorina produces her new invention, the Mechaficator, a ray gun that turns whatever it hits into a giant robot. She plans to use it on either Wolfrun or Akaoni, but Akaoni sneezes and she accidentally shoots it at Cure Happy. Happy suddenly grows to giant size and transforms into a giant robot, Happy Robo. March and Sunny can't believe what they're seeing, but mecha fan Cure Peace is overjoyed. Candy dubs the robot Happy Robo.

Since the ray only works once, both Wolfrun and Akaoni produce Black Noses to produce a Hyper Akanbe. They can't agree on which of them should use it, so they both use it to produce Hyper Akanbe from two halves of a Warubotter toy, each combining with it. Wolfrun and Akaoni attack. Even though they're the villains, Cure Peace is excited to see them appear like in a movie.

The robots attack, but Happy Robo is unable to move. Cure Peace realizes that Happy Robo can't move unless she has a human pilot, like Robotter. Peace excitedly volunteers but soon realizes that she doesn't actually know how to control it. Sunny and March also try, to no avail. As the enemies attack, Happy Robo suddenly becomes competent. It turns out that Cure Beauty is piloting her, having read the entire Robotter encyclopedia. She expertly dodges attacks and defeats the enemies with judo throws.

Wolfrun and Akaoni use their move Bad End Docking to combine, forming Gattai Akanbe and flying into the sky. Cure Peace is excited to see a mecha combination, but when Wolfrun and Akaoni squander their power by refusing to co-operate, she decides Happy Robo should perform a combination of her own. She has "Captain Candy" use the Angel Decor to give Happy Robo wings, allowing her to fly.

Wolfrun and Akaoni finally start working together, and the real fight begins. Happy Robo strikes with a move called Happy Punch and flies with Happy Jet. Wolfrun uses Warubotter Dark Thunder, which misses, and Akaoni uses Warubotter Beam, which Happy Robo deflects with the invincible Happy Barrier. Happy Robo knocks the enemy down with Happy Kick, and finally deploys her finishing move, Ultra Happy Punch, which shoots her fist off.

Just as Ultra Happy punch is about to hit, it disappears. Cure Happy turns back to normal, and is relieved to have her hand back. It turns out that Majorina just destroyed the ray gun. Cure Peace is dejected to lose just as they are about to win, but Cure Happy inspires her by quoting Robotter's catchphrase. Peace recognizes it and responds with the pilot Takeru's catchphrase—"Lets finish this like we always do!" With that, the Cures perform Royal Rainbow Burst.

With everything back to normal, Yayoi buys her Tetsujin Senshi Robotter Deluxe toy. The experience has given the others a new appreciation for robots, and their ability to bring smiles to children and inspire courage. Yayoi thanks Robotter for giving her the courage to stand up to anything.

Trivia[]

  • Series director Otsuka Takashi, who also directed this episode, stated that it is a "love letter to the 'robot anime of his youth.'"[1]
  • This is the first episode where all five Cures transform with someone other than Cure Happy in the center. This is due to Yayoi taking the lead after being inspired by Robotter.
    • Although there have previously been episodes where someone other than Miyuki took the lead, such as Akane in episode 17, Miyuki still appears as the center in those episodes. There have also been previous episodes where Miyuki was not in the center due to less than five Cures transforming at the same time.
  • The series opening theme "Let's go! Smile Pretty Cure!" plays while the Cures and Happy Robo battle the Hyper Akanbes.
  • Obari Masami, known primarily for his work in mecha anime such as "Super Robot Wars" and "Transformers," was brought in as a guest to do key animation for this episode. He animated the scene in the beginning of the Robotter anime. This is the only time he has worked on Pretty Cure.[2]
  • "Happy Kick" appears to be a homage to "Inazuma (Thunder) Kick", a special move popularized by "Gunbuster" and other Gainax-animated productions.
  • Ultra Happy Punch, where Happy Robo shoots her fist, is reminiscent of Broken Magnum, the signature attack from 1997 mecha anime The King of Braves GaoGaiGar. "Bad End Docking" may also be a reference to GaoGaiGar's Symmetrical Docking, a gattai move used between the red and blue mechs HyoRyuu and EnRyuu, respectively.
