"Protect it! Nao's precious bonds with family!!" (守り抜け!なおと家族のたいせつな絆!! Mamorinuke! Nao to kazoku no taisetsu na kizuna!!?) is the 42nd episode of Smile Pretty Cure!, the 34th episode of Glitter Force, and also the 431st episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall. The English title is "April's Babysitting Blues".

Synopsis[]

After Nao's mother is hospitalized to deliver her seventh child, she takes it upon herself to help out more. She decides to make curry but forgets an apple, essential for the meal and her younger siblings, Hina and Yuuta offer to get one for her.

Summary[]

Nao's mother heads to the hospital, where she will soon give birth to her child. Nao is left to look after her five younger siblings.

Meanwhile, in the Bad End Kingdom, Joker warns Majorina that Emperor Pierrot is displeased with their lack of progress. He reminds Majorina that she has not seen Wolfrun and Akaoni since their failures, leaving their fate to her imagination. He tasks the frightened Majorina with defeating Cure March.

Nao goes grocery shopping at the local shopping district, buying curry ingredients. The local community is excited to hear the Midorikawa family is having more, with the shopkeepers giving them extra to celebrate. At home, Nao realizes she forgot to buy apples, a key ingredient in the curry. Hina and Yuuta want to help, and run off to buy apples by themselves.

The other four girls walk to Nao's house to help out, when they learn that Hina and Yuuta have gone off, and search for them. They realize that the pair have gone to the shopping district to buy apples, but in fact they were unable to buy any without money.

Nao's siblings get trapped

Majorina approaches Hina and Yuuta to offer a large red apple. As soon as they touch the apple, it transforms into a cage. Nao and the other siblings arrive, but Nao can't transform without revealing her identity as Cure March to her siblings. She tries to run, but has to stop when Haru falls.

With no other choice, Nao transforms in front of her siblings. She orders Keita take Kouta and Haru away to safety, but Majorina summons Dark End Space, throwing all the siblings into despair. She then creates an apple-shaped Hyper Akanbe from the cage with two of Nao's siblings in it. She then uses the Akanbe to attack the other siblings, forcing Cure March to throw herself in front of the attacks to protect them.

March's determination to look after her family awakens her siblings from the despair. Keita, Haru, and Kouta stand in front of Cure March to protect her. Majorina throws an energy ball to destroy all four at once, but Keita refuses to abandon his sister. March rushes out to block the energy ball.

Cure March's determination to protect her family creates a new Decor in her Smile Pact, empowering her with energy. She swiftly charges and kicks the Akanbe, but Majorina can't afford to give up. Majorina transforms into her beautiful form, which causes the Akanbe to become red. Cure March launches her new attack, March Shoot Impact, sending the Akanbe flying into the air.

The attack consumes all of March's energy, and she is unable to react quickly enough when the Akanbe fires a shot that heads straight for the three siblings on the ground. It explodes on the ground, and March collapses as she was unable to protect her siblings. However, as the smoke clears, she sees her siblings are safe—Cure Happy and Cure Sunny arrived just in time to block the attack. Peace and Beauty free the other two siblings trapped inside the the Akanbe. March cries as she embraces her beloved family.

Majorina tries firing one last barrage against the Cures, but Candy blocks it with the Umbrella Decor. They transform into Princess Mode and use Royal Rainbow Burst to defeat the Akanbe. Majorina leaves, certain that a terrible fate awaits her.

Nao's siblings sleep after their tiring experience. Nao breaks down into tears. Miyuki hugs her, telling her that everything will be alright.

Suddenly, Nao's father arrives in a car, and they rush to the hospital. Nao's siblings remember the fight with Cure March, but they all believe it was a dream. They go to meet the family's new baby—a girl, who they name Yui, meaning "binds", in the hopes that she will bring people closer together. Trivia[]

  • As with the previous three episodes, Nao reprises her pose from the opening in this episode.
  • The Midorikawa family recipe of using apple in curry was previously mentioned in episode 10, combining sweet and sour together as complementary flavors.
  • Nao's siblings are five of only eight human characters in the series, other than the Pretty Cure, who are shown to be able to resist the despair Bad End Space. The other three are Miyuki's grandma, due to her indomitable positive attitude; and the comedy duo FUJIWARA, due to their desire to spread laughter and smiles.
  • This is the only episode of Smile Pretty Cure! where a Cure's family sees them transform. Nao's siblings see her transform and fight, but later they think they were just dreaming. Most humans are unable to escape Bad End Space and do not remember events which occurred within it; of those who previously escaped, FUJIWARA agreed to keep the Pretty Cure a secret, and Tae was in the kitchen for the entire fight. The result is that almost nobody knows the Pretty Cure exist.
  • This is one of at least four episodes to have shown the psychological genre, the other episodes being 22, 40 and 48.
  • This episode marks the last appearance of the regular Cure March eye-catch.
