Our First Club Activity! Tropica-Shining Lunch Boxes! (初めての部活!お弁当でトロピカっちゃえ! Hajimete no Bukatsu! Obentō de Toropikacchae!?) is the 8th episode of Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure and is the 835th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.

Summary

The girls want to make lunch for their busy mothers. That's when Manatsu has an idea to have "making lunch boxes" as their first club activity. Everyone then decides to make the lunch boxes based off of Kururun.

Major Events

  • The Tropical Club has its first official club activity, making lunch boxes.

Synopsis

Manatsu is fast asleep when sound coming from the kitchen wakes her up. She finds her mom hurriedly preparing their lunches for work and school, and she explains how a new fish arrived at the Aquarium, so she is in a hurry.

Once lunchtime arrives Manatsu excitedly rushes Sango, Minori and Asuka up to the rooftop to eat together. She wants to discuss their first club activity- until she realizes -at the same time as her mom- that she mixed up their lunches. Manatsu got two dishes of rice while her mom got both dishes with other foods. Feeling sympathetic, the other girls agree to share theirs with her. Manatsu is delighted to have such nice friends; although she can hardly eat the "health food" Minori made using eggshells, tuna eyeballs, natto and plants. She admires the cute ham flower Sango made and the delicious egg made by Asuka. As she listens to Asuka explain how she helps out by handling lunch for herself, her brother and her dad, Manatsu realizes that she is the only one of her friends who doesn't prepare her own lunch. She wants that to change, so she asks Asuka to teach her how to make a lunch box. Sango agrees that this would be a great first group activity, and Minori points out that they can use the home ec room. Asuka tries to say that she isn't skilled enough to teach others, but she gives in after Manatsu expresses how much she wants to help her mom. Laura is disgruntled that they aren't focusing on training as Pretty Cure.

Meanwhile, Chongire gets frustrated over the Witch not wanting to eat the curry dish he made. Butler asks him to make something more interesting for her, then reminds him of his duties to collect humans' motivation.

The girls have gathered all the necessities and brought them to the home ec room. Laura mentions that she doesn't know anything about cooking, but she offers to taste-test for them. Asuka threatens to make her portion extra-spicy, then she goes on to reveal the idea she came up with a "Kururun Lunchbox". Minori initially believes that she intends on using Kururun, until she reveals the drawing she made as a guide. Manatsu happily notes that she included simmered pumpkin like she asked, her mom loves it.

With that, everyone washes their hands to get started. Laura observes Manatsu add colorant to the rice while Sango and Asuka prepare vegetables and Minori struggle to crack eggs. She patiently observes but Minori takes so long that she pop's out to lend her a hand. But she's too aggressive and shatters the shell into the egg. Asuka encourages them and they move on to finish getting everything else prepared, with Laura continuing to observe. Manatsu begins assembling the various sides of fruit, vegetables, meat and egg into a lunch box. After Asuka provides a tip about freezing items made in bulk for next time, Manatsu realizes that she will be doing this all on her own soon. She comments that it must be tough for Asuka to have to do this every day, but she assures Manatsu that because its for her families sake, she can keep going. Manatsu envisions her mother and how hard she works each morning, but Asuka tells her not to stress out. She can even use leftovers or frozen foods for lunch, it doesn't always need to be something new.

Laura is admiring the sparkly strawberries and asks about them, as she is unfamiliar with them. Sango explains how they are considered to be dessert, so its normally eaten last. Laura remarks that she would eat it first, and Manatsu curiously asks the other girls how they eat. Minori starts with broccoli, and Sango agrees, unless there is sausage. Manatsu likes the meat patty, and Asuka admits that she saves what she likes -the egg- for last. It's hard to hold back, but you get so much enjoyment by the time you get to your favorite. Before Laura can eat her first strawberry, their Teacher suddenly arrives to check up on them, forcing the girls to have to hide her. She sees her tail fin and asks if they are cooking a large fish, but they assure her that they aren't. She asks if they need any help and takes off once they convince her everything will be fine. The girls quickly finish packing everything up and decide to take their lunches outside to enjoy them.

Chongire complains as he observes a busy shaved ice shop. He uses the machine to summon a Yaraneeda.

The girls arrive at a lovely spot to eat when Laura complains over being hungry. Asuka reasons that for something like this, you want to pick a nice place to enjoy it- but Laura argues that as a mermaid, the ocean doesn't offer much in terms of scenery. The girls open their lunch boxes to observe how cute their meals turned out; there was even some for Kururun. Before they can eat, the girls realize off in the distance that there is a Yaraneeda attack. Hungry or not, they have to take care of this first. But as things are frozen and they are pelted with slush, they quickly come to realize how low on energy they are. They worked so hard that morning and didn't get to eat yet, so they can't release their full power. Realizing how bad this could turn out, Laura calls for their attention. She has a plan, telling them to keep the Yaraneeda still. As it stands to reason, most things can be frozen, so the girls distract the Yaraneeda by standing on something it already froze. This causes its icy blast to reflect back at it, completely freezing it in place.

Laura goes on to reveal their lunches from earlier and sits them down, telling them to at least take a bite while they have a chance. This gives them enough energy to focus on the battle and strengthen their abilities, just in time for the Yaraneeda to break out of its ice prison. Once its hit, Laura uses the Aqua Pot to scan it, locating the orange motivation power and letting Flamingo finish it off. The Yaraneeda returns to normal and everything frozen thaws immediately, so Chongire decides to retreat. He was inspired for the next time he cooks.

The girls relocate to the swimming pool so that Laura and Kururun can come out to eat with them. Seeing how happy Asuka is having saved her favorite for last, the girls are inspired to try that next time, so she decides to try eating her favorite first. Manatsu happily eats while declaring that food tastes the best when one can sense the kind heart who prepared it. It's then the girls realize that its incredibly awkward trying to eat their Kururun rice, with Kururun staring at them nearby. Manatsu eats the eyes from her Kururin, and the other girls are shocked. Laura peacefully enjoys her lunch and compliments it.

Chongire explains to Butler that he froze this meal he prepared for the Witch. He reasons that if she puts off eating, it'll be fine because its frozen, but Butler points out that she might want to eat it now.

That evening, Manatsu took everything she learned today to make dinner for her and her mom. She explains how she learned from Asuka, and because they are a family, they should be a team. Her mother is so happy to hear this, and she agrees to ask for help when she's really busy. Manatsu is very happy with this and they sit down for the meal, chatting about which food to start with.
