Frightened Manatsu! The Seven Mysteries Of The School! (まなつパニック!学校の七不思議! Manatsu Panikku! Gakkō no Nana Fushigi!?) is the 19th episode of Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure and is the 846th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.

Summary

The Tropical Club is participating in a campaign set up by the Newspaper Club to investigate the scary ghost stories and seven wonders of the school. While exploring an old mansion in the mountains behind the school, a doll in the room suddenly starts talking to Manatsu...

Synopsis

With their motivation at its strongest, Pretty Cure has been preventing the Witches henchmen from stealing motivation. Elda tells them off and retreats, grumpily complaining about them while she travels. Just then, something goes wrong with her travel device and she's sent crashing into a building.

Asuka begins club by bringing up Laura officially joining them, and she asks everyone if they have any ideas for their next activity. Manatsu voices how glad she is that Asuka is doing this, because she tends to spout out ideas so frequently, she worried about someone being left out. But nobody has an answer initially, not even Kururun. Laura claims she has too many ideas. Minori pulls out the school paper to point out the campaign focusing on Aozora Middle's seven mysteries and ghost stories. For participating they can earn a food voucher, and it will provide interesting articles for the paper. Sango hesitates a little because she isn't good with scary things, until Minori points out that Laura as a mermaid was most-likely the explanation for the ghost rumor, so they should look for something new to shift their focus on. She is encouraged to try, however, Manatsu is unusually quiet. Minori claims a ghost is behind her, and her ensuing freak-out causes the others to realize she is afraid of ghosts. They offer not to participate in the campaign, but Manatsu doesn't want to give up like that. While she is really scared she wants to do something they chose this time, and this will help Laura too.

The girls head home to get changed and get supplies after Minori goes over what their focus will be on. Manatsu is on edge as they approach the abandoned mansion behind their school, it's become dangerous and dilapidated from abandonment, so it will be torn down next week. Nobody knows why its been forgotten, but students passing by recall seeing a light from it. But when they go to look for inside, they hear moaning and find a lonely doll. Asuka decides that because its getting late, they should split up to look for it, but the girls are unable to find anything other than cobwebs, old furniture and dust. Manatsu heads further in and comes to a room to spot a doll, and she is so scared when she talks that she attempts to run away and falls over. The noise startles the other girls and they evacuate thinking the floor above them is crumbling, but once outside, they realize Manatsu isn't with them.

The doll asks Manatsu who she is and what her purpose for being there was, and Manatsu brings up the rumors. She asks the doll not to put a curse on her, unaware that Elda is beneath the small table, under the sheet covering it. Elda -as the doll- promises to leave Manatsu alone as long as she gives food as an offering. Manatsu is perplexed by this, but after the doll threatens her, she hands over some tropical melon bread. She hears the other girls and Elda tells Manatsu that she can go, but she has to bring food every day. The other girls curiously enter the room and Laura picks up the doll, and she vigorously shakes it, but nothing happens. Manatsu panics the entire time as the girls remark on how plain the doll is, disappointed by their lack of findings and Manatsu puts it back. She promises to come back and takes off, and Elda happily enjoys the bread. She's relieved that despite having to wait for the others to pick her up, she has someone who can give her food.

Manatsu returns on multiple days, once with marine gummies and on another day half a bento. She also brings fruit and picks up her lunch box, and to her surprise, she realizes the doll isn't that scary after all. She compliments the omelette and melon bread, going on to say that for a human, Manatsu doesn't have bad taste. Manatsu goes on to ask the doll why she is there, and Elda states she is waiting for someone. But rather than say Numeri and Chongire, she claims its the little girl who used to live there. One day she vanished, but she knows she will return because of their promise to be friends forever. So she will keep waiting there until that day. Elda is surprised by how emotional Manatsu is by this story, and she tries to encourage the doll, promising to bring more offerings for her. She perks up after Elda assures her that she is a good kid. Manatsu heads outside when she recalls that the mansion is going to be torn down soon.

Later, Laura decides to confide in the others by bringing up how strange Manatsu has been. She leaves early but she comes home late for one thing. Minori recalls seeing her go behind the school yesterday, and they wonder if she decided to keep investigating on her own.

Manatsu informs the doll of the mansions destruction soon. She is going to try to do her best to prevent it though.

Meanwhile, Chongire and Numeri are on their way to find Elda when they spot Pretty Cure beneath them, heading in the same direction. Both parties arrive at the same time, and Chongire uses a Zenzen sphere on the equipment nearby to transform it into a Yaraneeda. The girls transform into Cure Coral, Papaya, Flamingo and La Mer, barely dodging an attack from the monster as it jumps into the air and strikes. The tremors from this cause the mansion to rumble, knocking Manatsu down and Elda out of hiding. She rolls away before Manatsu can see her, and she gets up to look out the window to see the attack. She calls to the doll and promises to protect the mansion, running outside to help the others. Elda is surprised when she peaks to realize the girl who has been helping her was Cure Summer.

Manatsu transforms and attacks the monster, apologizing to the others for being late. Elda is in disbelief as Numeri joins her, picking the younger girl up to take her home. Before they go, Elda observes the doll.

The Yaraneeda attacks and traps four of the Pretty Cure in a dirt mound, with only Summer being free. Despite how roughed up she gets, she keeps getting up to protect the mansion, Elda being transfixed on her the entire time as Chongire approaches to greet her. The Yaraneeda bluntly pushes itself at Summer and she holds it back, inches from the mansion. She refuses to give up because the lonely doll kept waiting for her friend, and Manatsu came to understand that she isn't scary either, so for her sake she won't let it destroy the mansion. Elda is moved by her words, and she begins to cry, claiming her tummy hurts. Numeri wants to retreat home to help her but Chongire hesitates, and in his attempt to talk to the Yaraneeda, the monster gets distracted long enough, allowing Summer to shove it back with enough force that it knocks the others loose. La Mer uses Kurukuru La Mer Stream to change it back to normal, and the three henchman take off.

Later, the girls observe the article written about their success regarding the doll of the mansion. They aren't entirely sure what it was, but when they went back to visit it again they discovered it was gone. The mansion was demolished shortly after, so the mystery remains. Laura is in disbelief over Manatsu giving the doll so many offerings, but she confirms that she did. She wonders what happened to it and Minori suggests that the owner may have come to get it.

At the Witch of Delays layer, Chongire locates Elda playing and tells her that the food is ready. She puts down her toys and leaves the room, revealing that she took the doll home with her.
