Synopsis

A film crew is interviewing Yuriko about Aozora Middle School. She begins to talk, unaware that Manatsu and Laura are walking into the shot from behind. From a higher spot in the building, Minori, Sango and Asuka release the large banner the group was working on, encourage everyone to get their summer activities done and focus on their summer homework before break ends. But suddenly the wind grabs their banner and ends up bumping into Yuriko and the filming crew, knocking them all into the fountain nearby.

In the student council office, Yuriko is chewing the girls out for embarrassing not only her, but putting something up that goes against the school's motto of health. The girls explain that they went about it the nicest way possible but she's so frustrated that she wants to suspend the Tropical Club. They call her out on being too harsh when suddenly, the man who came to interview Yuriko returns. He accidentally overheard what was going on and he came by to invite the group and the student council to participate in a quiz show he will be hosting, due to how viral the incident went. Since they were having a dispute this would be the perfect way to settle it. Asuka claims this is too sudden a request but Yuriko agrees with no hesitation. She's sure the council will win, and this way they can talk up the school more properly. But if by some chance the Tropical Club wins, she will remove its suspension.

Soon the day of the program begins, and the host introduces himself as Panther Mukai. This quiz show tests locals on how well they know their hometown. Sango is starstruck over getting to participate on her favorite show, while Asuka has become tense due to nerves. Panther goes on to introduce the five competing middle school groups and explains that by the end of all the rounds, whichever group has the most points will win. The first round will start at the sea. He asks the question and number cards rain down from the sky. The groups must bring the right number over to the isolated booth to win points. The groups scatter to observe the numbers but nobody can find a card with one-thousand on it. All they see are single digits from one to ten. Minori deduces that Panther never said how many cards they had to bring back, so they pick up a ten card and two zero cards and head to over to tell him the answer. They answered first and gain five points, followed by the council team, who earn four points.

Next at the aquarium, Panther asks a true or false question and they must jump through the panel they think is the correct one. Those who are right will jump into a pile of plushies while the wrong answer lands them in mud instead. He goes on to ask if the blue whale is the largest mammal in the world, and Laura eagerly offers to answer, as a mermaid who is familiar with the water. She chooses false- but this ends up being incorrect. She argues back that she was right, because three years ago the Grandpa Giant Squid she knew died, and he was much, MUCH bigger than the blue whale. Asuka points out that nobody on land would know this.

The first half of the game ends and the council is in the lead due to winning the second round. Everyone heads over to a fashion boutique for the third round, and Panther gives each team 10,000 yen to spend on clothing. The team with the biggest waist width will win. Sango gathers the clothing items and they put them on Asuka. Meanwhile, the council uses their general knowledge to help them determine the cost and precision when it comes to picking which clothing to use, which earns a compliment from Manatsu. But the girls aren't worried because Sango is a fashion expert and she has a lot of experience with clothing. Asuka finds the heat unbearable -as do the other teams, who have mostly given up and are shedding their extra layers- when Manatsu comes over with some fish earrings for her to wear. The round ends right after she puts them on her and the official measurement is underway. The council managed to reach 200cm and spent 10,000 yen precisely. The Tropical Club reached 203cm, but they lost because they went over the budge by 1,300 yen- due to the earrings. Manatsu apologizes for costing them the round and they move onto the last one.

This time, there will be ten points awarded to the first team who can hit the buzzer and answer the question correctly. Panther goes on to ask the name of the city they live in. Manatsu eagerly wants to answer but he reminds her that she has to hit the button first, and it dons on the girls that there is no buzzer nearby. They have to go look for it. Minori suddenly recalls earlier when the program started, one of the focal points during the opening montage was the world button display at the museum. Unfortunately, Manatsu is so loud that she ends up tipping off the council team, forcing Asuka to start running with Yuriko hot on her tail; along with their respective groups and the remaining three teams.

Yuriko quickly manages to approach Manatsu and Asuka, and she quickly overtakes Manatsu. Asuka pushes herself to run faster but Yuriko is stubborn and keeps up with her, and Manatsu encourages herself to run faster too; just in time to slip on a random banana peel laying on the ground. Yuriko and Asuka are neck-and-neck, and at the museum they can see the large button waiting for the first person to reach it. Panther arrives with the crew in his van in time to see the girls run up the steps to the button, and both of them leap for it. Both girls manage to hit the buzzer at nearly the exact same time, and they collide with each other. While catching her breath, Asuka spots Numeri in the sky and she rises just in time for her to transform the button into a Yaraneeda. Yuriko is startled and Asuka attempts to lure it away by running over to it and yelling out, but it spots Yuriko and the film crew and steals away their motivation. The girls quickly transform into Pretty Cure and attack the monster, but with its button it manages to deflect them. It causes them pain by repeatedly hitting its buzzer and Asuka quickly makes work of it by using Buttobi Flamingo Smash. La Mer uses her Mermaid Aqua Pot to return the Motivation Power to its owners, then she purifies it with Ocean Bubble Shower.

Everything returns to normal and Numeri takes off as everyone awakens. Yuriko recalls pressing the button, but nothing afterwards, and Panther recalls their program. Everyone gathers around the monitor to watch the film, and they discover that Asuka managed to touch the button seconds before Yuriko did. Luckily for the girls, the recording cut off by this point too, so neither Pretty Cure or the Yaraneeda were recorded. The council is in dismay as Panther goes on to ask the tropical club their answer, and with their ten points they win the program. Asuka approaches Yuriko and reminds her of their promise, then Panther asks the girls to share some words to celebrate their victory. Asuka starts but she's too flustered to speak, while Sango is happy that they won on her favorite program. Manatsu happily chats up the school and tries to encourage Yuriko to say something too, but Panther reminds Manatsu that they don't have all day. She apologizes and tells Minori to take her turn, and Laura eagerly wants to say something too.

Trivia

  • Cure Flamingo appears at the beginning of the ending.
  • This episode's writer, Murayama Isao, also wrote most of the other episodes exploring the enmity between Asuka and Student Council President Yuriko. These include episode 12, where Yuriko questions Asuka's dedication to club activities, and episode 31, which explains how Yuriko's dislike of the Tropical Club may be motivated by a personal grudge against Asuka.
