Summary

Laura takes part in the election to decide Aozora Middle School's next student council president. Despite getting little to no support, Laura doesn't give up, and comes up with ideas for her final speech with the Tropical Club. However, on the day of the final speech, a Chou Zettai Yaraneeda appears...

Major Events

  • Laura runs for Student Council President, but unknowingly forfeits after leaving in the middle of her speech to help her teammates.

Synopsis

The girls learn that Ichijo Rika is running for Student Council President, taking over from outgoing President, third-year Shiratori Yuriko. Laura decides to run for the position, thinking it a fitting prelude to her future position as Queen of Grand Ocean.

At the Student Council office, there is tension between Asuka and President Yuriko. The girls also learn that a third candidate, the Student Council's Disciplinary Head Kakuta Masami, has also chosen to run for the President. They have one week to campaign.

Meanwhile, Butler ponders the recent appearance of the Legendary Pretty Cure and the Land Heart Kuru Ring. He gives Chongire a new and more powerful Yaraneeda orb.

Laura begins campaigning, but struggles against Rika, already popular due to her current position as Student Council Vice President. The opposition only makes Laura more competitive. She pledges to have classes in the ocean once per week, and to rename the position of President to Queen.

The students are unimpressed with Laura's pledges, but the girls' teacher praises her efforts. On the topic of combining club activity with Student Council work, the girls are surprised to learn that Asuka was once a member of the Tennis Club with President Yuriko, and the two were doubles partners. Minori knew, but never saw the need to mention it.

Back at the campaign, Rika pledges to increase club budget by 10% and revise some overly strict school rules. Laura counters by pledging to raise budgets 500% and abolish rules, but the students are dubious. Rika promises to install more benches, but Laura promises to introduce more holidays, reducing school to three days a week.

At lunch, the girls suggest some more reasonable pledges like allowing lipstick, adding more library books, and scuba diving lessons. Laura writes them down in a notebook.

In town, Chongire creates a Chou Zettai Yaraneeda, drawing on the Motivation Power of people attending a campaign for local mayoral candidate Sunahama Jiro, and making the Yaraneeda out of the campaign bus. The girls head off to fight it while Laura stays behind to make her speech.

As Masami makes a speech pledging to improve school discipline, the girls transform to fight the Yaraneeda, but struggle without Laura. Rika makes her speech next, pledging to follow in the spirit of President Yuriko. Finally, Laura makes her speech, but cuts it short to help the friends who came up with her campaign promises. She runs off to join the Cures, transforming by herself.

With Laura's help, the Cures use the Land Heart Kuru Ring to defeat the Yaraneeda with Excellen-Tropical Style. Laura returns to find that they've taken the vote without her, and Vice President Rika is the overwhelming winner. Laura shows her notebook to Masami, who is impressed by her pledges. Laura decides to take the loss as a learning experience, and promises to become Queen of Grand Ocean.

Trivia

  • Cure La Mer appears at the beginning of the ending.
  • This episode shares many similarities to episode 37 of Smile Pretty Cure!. In both episodes, a third-year Student Council President retires well in advance of their graduation, a Cure runs for the position, and the former Vice President wins the election.
  • In this episode we see a rare reprise of both Laura's solo transformation and the group's transformation without Laura.
