Exciting Halloween! Don't Lose, Manatsu! (わくわくハロウィン!まけるな、まなつ! Wakuwaku Harowin! Makeru na, Manatsu!)? is the 35th episode of Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure and is the 862nd episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.

Summary

While preparing for the Tropical Club's Halloween Party, a Yaraneeda appears and steals everyone's Motivation Power. Cure Summer tries to do Laura's "Motivation Power, Come Back!" sequence, as Laura is out of town at the time. However, the Motivation Power isn't coming back...!!

Major Events

  • Someone other than Laura attempts to use the Mermaid Aqua Pot.
  • It is revealed that only Laura can use the pot to retrieve Motivation Power.

Synopsis

The girls pick pineapples for Halloween, even though nobody really remembers the reason for the holiday. They are used to make Jack O'Lanterns for the Halloween event, featuring a costume contest which Laura intends to win.

At the Tropical Club, the girls dress in costumes: Manatsu a werewolf, Minori a jiangshi, Sango a pirate, and Asuka as Dracula, with Kururun as a bat. Laura has trouble finding the ultimate costume, and runs off to a costume shop.

Meanwhile, at the Witch of Delays' mansion, one of the dark orbs is missing. It turns out to have found its way to the school's Halloween party preparations, where it creates an original-type Yaraneeda after being dropped. The girls quickly transform, minus Laura, who is still in town searching for a costume. The Yaraneeda, made from a beachball and foot pump, continues to inflate in size and threatens the preparations.

Cure Summer cannot wait for Laura's return, and attempts to use the Mermaid Aqua Pot herself to recover the Motivation Power. It works, and she defeats it with Otento Summer Strike. However, the stolen Motivation Power remains trapped in the Aqua Pot.

Laura appears at last and scolds Manatsu for using the Aqua Pot. Manatsu tries shaking the pot to sprinkle Motivation Power over the people, but people's motivation is mixed up. The effect is short-lived, and Manatsu collapses into a fit of self-doubt.

Chongire appears and uses a red orb to create a Chou Zettai Yaraneeda from a pineapple Jack O'Lantern, stealing Motivation Power from children who have come to the event to receive candy. Manatsu is paralyzed by self-doubt, but Laura shakes some motivation into her long enough to allow the girls to transform again.

The Yaraneeda traps all the Cures except Cure Summer inside pineapple rings. She tries to ready a lollipop to parry a pineapple ring attack, but self-doubt impedes her again. The Yaraneeda smashes the lollipop with whirling leaf blades, giving the girls the idea to lure it toward them to break the pineapple rings binding them. The plan works, and after Laura recovers the Motivation Power, the Cures defeat it with Land Beat Dynamic.

Motivation finally returns to the people. Manatsu cries, but her friends soon cheer her up. She puts on lipstick, and is ready to return to the event.

Finally, the winner of the costume event is Laura, dressed as a "Frankenmermaid."

Trivia

  • In the broadcast version of this episode, the opening features scenes from the Tropical-Rouge! movie, and the usual ending theme is replaced by "Shantia ~Land of Happiness~". Before the ending starts, Cure Summer and Cure Blossom ask everyone to dance.
    • The Crunchyroll version keeps the original opening and ending intact, with Cure Summer appearing before the ending.
  • This is the first episode to feature two different types of Yaraneeda.
  • Shiratori Yuriko is still Student Council President in this episode, even though her successor won the vote in episode 30. The Student Council appears to still be in a handover period, which may explain why the election took place well before the sitting President's graduation.
  • In this episode, Manatsu is encouraged after putting on lipstick in her iconic color. This previously happened in episode 28 with Minori, and in episode 32 with Sango.
  • The girls are all partly correct in their guesses as to the meaning of Halloween. Manatsu believes it is a festival for wearing costumes, which is the modern tradition. Minori believes it is for celebrating the fall harvest, which is likely the purpose of the Celtic traditions held on October 31 before being superceded by a Christian holy day to remember the dead. In some traditions, people also carried torches or dressed as monsters to ward away evil spirits or the Devil, as Asuka suggested. Laura says nobody knows for sure, which is also true.
