Sawaizumi Chiyu

Sawaizumi Chiyu (沢泉ちゆ^?) is one of the four main Cures in Healin' Good♥Pretty Cure. She is a second-year student at Sukoyaka Middle School and is in the same class as Nodoka and Hinata.

Chiyu's alter ego is Cure Fontaine (キュアフォンテーヌ, Cure Fontaine^?) and she is known as the Pretty Cure of Water.

Bio

Appearance

Chiyu has grey-blue eyes and medium-length, charcoal hair worn in a low ponytail over the shoulder, held with a light blue scrunchie. She wears an off-shoulder pale indigo top with elbow-length sleeves and dark blue shoulder straps, paired with a long, buttoned denim skirt, a pale yellow belt, and navy flats with white socks. For winter, she wears a long-sleeved off-shoulder light blue top with dark blue lining, a matching dark blue skirt, and black boots.

As a child, she used to wear a t-shirt with two different types of blue and a white collar, as well as a pair of dark blue shorts and blue shoes. Her hair was also shorter.

In the movie, she wears a white sweater over a sky blue top, cerulean denim pants and indigo shoes. She also wears a light blue coat and her scrunchie's color is indigo.

As Cure Fontaine, her eyes and hair turn vibrant blue, her hair now surpassing her knees and worn up in a ponytail splitting so far down, and her bangs become thickly curled. She wears a pearl tiara with blue gem heart, and gains a dark blue choker and pearl droplet earrings that resemble raindrops. Her outfit consists of a blue and white top with a blue droplet gem and ruffled, milk blue fabric to match the pointed mid-section. The dark blue skirt is lined in sky blue with a pointed, off-white petticoat. Over this is a light blue vest lined in cerulean, with white puffed sleeves and dark blue cuff. Over the skirt is a ruffled, long split pale turquoise peplum with bow on the back. She also gains cerulean and white shoes with a sky blue and white socks adorned by a sapphire droplet, and off-white gloves with a blue heart on top.

In her Special Healin' Good Style form, her hair grows out into thinner, curlier sections and her tiara gains more detail. Her dress turns into a dark blue turtleneck with two small pale blue spheres at the neck. Her vest slightly alters in shape with her sleeves now long and trim by pearl blue ruffles. The pale turquoise peplum is much shorter and pleated with a large white ribbon on the back, and over the skirt is a scalloped pearl blue layer, along with a split cerulean layer with turquoise heart detail. She loses her gloves and socks, and her shoes alter in design to be cerulean and turquoise, with white accenting and two small spheres on the foot.

As Pegitan Fontaine, she gains a pale blue hair ornament, while her tiara, earrings, and choker remain the same. Her dress is altered, with a dark blue and white robe over it that has accents of pale yellow and lilac, and a large pearl blue ribbon with curled tails hanging from the back. Her shoes resemble toed socks and sandals, worn with her normal socks.

Personality

Chiyu is a second-year middle school student who lives a hygienic and cheerful lifestyle. As an older sister type, she will do anything to help those in need. She's also very serious with a strong sense of responsibility and will try to do everything herself. She is sporty, being the ace of the school's track and field team, and smart as well, especially when it comes to science. Despite usually being focused, Chiyu finds puns quite humorous and will laugh whenever someone makes her one.

When she was young, Chiyu was amazed by the sky and ocean, as they look like a single scenery while she was swimming. This experience inspired her to become a high-jumping athlete, where she constantly tries to improve herself.

Relationships

Pegitan: Chiyu adores Pegitan and even volunteered to become his partner to fight the Megabyogen.
Hanadera Nodoka: Chiyu becomes fast friends with Nodoka, and cares for her well-being.
Hiramitsu Hinata: Chiyu and Hinata initially struggle to become friends with each other due to being polar opposites in terms of personality. They eventually overcome their differences and become close friends. She often worries about Hinata's actions, but mostly enjoys laughing at Hinata’s puns.
Sawaizumi Touji: Touji is her younger brother, who she shares a close bond with and deeply cares for.
Shindoine: Her main Byogen general rival. They clash due to their opposing values.

Etymology

Sawaizumi (沢泉, Sawaizumi^?) - Sawa (沢, Sawa^?) means "mountain stream" ^[1], while Izumi (泉, Izumi^?) means "fountain" ^[2].

Chiyu (ちゆ, Chiyu^?) - There are three different meanings for the name, Chiyu, which are "cure", "healing", and "recovery" ^[3].

Cure Fontaine is a French word meaning "fountain or natural spring or an area of natural springs" ^[4].

History

Meeting Nodoka

In episode 1, Chiyu is jogging and comes across Nodoka. She doesn't notice her scrunchie falling out until Nodoka tells her. When Nodoka struggles to breathe, Chiyu is concerned. In the following episode, Chiyu gives Nodoka advice on how to exercise and improve her stamina. After school, Chiyu overhears Nodoka talking to Latte and Rabirin.

Meeting Pegitan and Becoming Cure Fontaine

In episode 3, Chiyu gives Nodoka a tour at her family's hot spring inn. Later, Shindoine summons a Megabyogen, infecting the water element. Chiyu witnesses Nodoka transforming into Cure Grace and is saved by her from being hit by a falling tree. Grace gets injured and Chiyu talks to Pegitan about lending her power to transform. He is unsure and afraid of endangering her but is touched by her kind words and helps her become Cure Fontaine for the first time.

With her athletic strength, she is able to deliver powerful kicks and purifies the Megabyogen with Healing Stream. After saving the Water Element, she starts looking after Pegitan.

Accepting Her Own Limits

In episode 8, Chiyu is practicing high jump for the school's upcoming tournament. But unlike usual, she fails again and again. Her friends are concerned, thus Nodoka and Hinata decide to go jogging with her. She opens up by telling them of her motivation to train for a high jump - she was impressed with the vastness of the sky and the ocean as a child. Later, when participating in the tournament, the event is disturbed by a Megabyogen. The battle motivates her to accept her own limitations and master her high jump, and afterward, she succeeds in performing the jump.

Learning to Become a Hostess

In episode 17, Chiyu and Touji volunteer to help their family out after learning that some staff had taken the weekend off. Chiyu's grandmother teaches her that being a hostess means caring for the guests' needs. During her service, she meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith and their daughter Emily Smith, who she notices is rather upset. After telling her friends about her inability to make Emily smile, Chiyu receives encouragement from them and learns that she has to have a caring heart as wide as the ocean. Chiyu later reaches out to Emily and learns that she feels lonely because she is not ready to move to Japan with her parents. After an intense fight with Shindoine, Chiyu, along with her brother and friends, play games with Emily, and finally has a stronger sense of belonging to her family inn after the Smiths leave.

Chiyu's Dream

In episode 34, Chiyu manages to secure a win in a high jump competition. However, after meeting Takami Tsubasa, she starts to wonder if she wants to become an athlete, particularly when she begins to get interviewed about her newest success. When she tells Tsubasa that she may quit high jump after high school, Tsubasa calls her a failure for not dreaming bigger. After her friends give her some advice regarding her chat with Tsubasa, Chiyu begins to recall her childhood and decides she does want to beat her record. After rescuing Tsubasa from the hands of Shindoine, she accepts Tsubasa's apology and promises Tsubasa that she will aim higher in the future.

In episode 38, Chiyu is conflicted since her family supports her dream of doing high jump, despite the fact that she wants to be an innkeeper and athlete at the same time. Although Nodoka and Hinata support her, Chiyu's doubts affect her performance during high jump practice. During the battle against Shindoine, Fontaine's doubts overcome her, however after Pegitan tells her she can pursue both dreams, Fontaine finally makes up her mind to pursue both. She tells her family her decision, and they happily support her.

Epilogue

After the final battle against King Byogen, it is time for Chiyu and Pegitan to leave each other. After Chiyu gives Pegitan a heartfelt hug, she watches him return to the Healing Garden with the other Healing Animals and Asumi.^HGPC44

Sometime later, Chiyu, along with Nodoka and Hinata, visits the Healing Garden, bringing lots of sweet buns as gifts for the inhabitants. However, they unknowingly bring a Nanobyogen inside and this results in sweet bun Megabyogens appearing. After meeting Cure Summer and the Megabyogens get purified, the three girls sincerely apologize and Queen Teatinu forgives them before they depart. They vow to continue protecting and healing the Earth after returning to Sukoyaka City.^HGPC45

Cure Fontaine

Cure Fontaine (キュアフォンテーヌ, Cure Fontaine^?) is the Pretty Cure alter ego of Chiyu. In order to transform, she needs her transformation Element Bottle, her Healing Animal partner Pegitan and her Healing Stick.

Transformation

The transformation begins with Pegitan leaping up and shouting "Start!" before entering the Healing Stick. Chiyu then turns around as she completes the transformation phrase and holds the stick and her Transformation Element Bottle. She inserts the bottle into the stick as it becomes surrounded in a white aura. Chiyu and Pegitan then say "Cure Touch!" together as Chiyu presses the right paw once before a stream of bubbles appears from the glowing tip of the stick. Chiyu's hair is let out of its ponytail where she is then shown standing on top of a water droplet while blue bubbles follow her. She waves the stick around as the bubbles merge and turn into a white coat that falls onto Chiyu's shoulders. Then she taps her feet and her boots appear, follow by her gloves before the cape wraps around her body and forms her dress. A bow appears in the back while a dark blue brooch with a ruffly ribbon appears in the front. Chiyu's hair then grows longer and turns bright blue with her earrings and tiara appearing before tiny bubbles also appear in her hair, completing the transformation. Fontaine is then propelled forward via a stream of water. She then poses with her Healing Stick as she and Pegitan start the introduction. After she cuddles Pegitan, Fontaine reaches up towards the sky before striking her finishing pose.

Healing Stream (ヒーリングストリーム, Healing Stream^?): Her first attack that she can perform with her Healing Stick and Pegitan.
Healing Oasis (ヒーリングオアシス, Healing Oasis^?): It is a group attack she performs with Grace and Sparkle. To perform it, she and her teammates need their Healing Sticks and the Miracle Healing Bottle.
Final! Healin' Good♥Shower (ファイナル！ヒーリングっど♥シャワー, Final! Healin' Good♥Shower^?): It is a group attack that she performs with Grace, Sparkle and Earth. To perform it, she and her teammates need their Healin' Good Arrow and the Special Healin' Good Bottle.
Healing Partner Quartet (ヒーリングパートナーカルテット, Healing Partner Quartet^?): A group attack from the movie that she performs with Grace, Sparkle and Earth. To perform it, she and her teammates must be in their Partner Forms, and be wielding the Healing Sticks and Earth Windy Harp.

Chiyu's voice actor, Yorita Natsu has participated in several image songs for the character she voices. Many of them include duets with Takeda Hana, who voices Pegitan, Yuuki Aoi, who voices Hanadera Nodoka, Kouno Hiyori, who voices Hiramitsu Hinata, and Mimori Suzuko, who voices Fuurin Asumi.

According to Healin' Good♥Pretty Cure Official Complete Book, Chiyu's dream of becoming an athlete has no relation with the then Tokyo Olympics. Komura Junko created her to be sporty in contrast of Nodoka, and be the kind of person which Nodoka would dream of becoming.
