  • You know, i know it haven't conformed yet, but i think the season will be Teacher themed or Time Travel themed. It might be Teacher Precure or Time Precure. What do you think? Star Twinkle Precure may be the last precure season because of TVAsahi shutting down in 2020, but what if precure aired on the other channel more than TVAsahi? What do you think? Comment.

    • The time travel theme has already been done before, and it's horrible. There is no way you can do that right. It's bound to leave more questions than answers, creating plotholes. Time travel is a gimmick, and it always will be. How will a teacher theme work? The Cures are still young to be school teachers. And where did you get the fact saying TV Asahi is shutting down?

It JUST a guess, MetalLuigi64 and do you rerember Hugtto Precure? It was job themed but, cure did not turn into teachers and in Happiness charge Precure Hime was dressing like a teacher. FACT: I ONLY WATCH THE FIRST 2 EPISODES OFF HAPPINESS CHARGE PRECURE. And i founded out that TVAsahi was shutting in a long time ago by seeing a post about it.

I may not know but, i think so but Winx Club (it a cartoon) have 3 different english dub and the company who made winx club named Rainbow was losing a lot of moneys for winx. Maybe Precure was near to the end.

That right, we will never know, we have to wait untill late october for a logo reveal and early 2020 of a trailer. I guess the theme by Star twinkle precure ed 2. My guesses might be wrong. Maybe it might be Tick Tock Precure or Teacher Time Precure.

Keep them for the ending themes, but preferably not for the main series.

Why not? Pretty Cure CGI looks great. Since they've had so many CGI movies and ending themes, Toei probably has enough experience to make an entirely CGI season. In fact, doing it in CGI would probably save money. Rather than drawing the characters over and over for each frame, the animators just have to create a model once and then repeatedly reposition it. Since it wouldn't take as much time or money to do the animation, more time and money could be spent making the fight scenes awesome! I remember back when Pretty Cure's fight scenes were always awesome and weren't just animated well during the mid- and end-of-season climaxes.

Agree, I want the mascots to be realted to a cure like Hugtan but this time it is the other way around (with the mascots being the parents with amnesia at the first half until the final half. The parents turned into parrots for a pirate theme or tanukis for a ninja theme).

    • A ninja themed season could be cool but I’m not sure how you’d properly mesh that with the whole Magical Girl genre.

Also I’m not sure where some of you are getting this from but a quick Google search turned up zero evidence that TV Ashai is going anywhere next year (in fact several unrelated shows are already in the works for that year and stuff like One Piece and Precure still remain super popular/profitable). It’ll probably be a little while yet before we know anything about the next Precure season but I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

    • Unless you want to count stuff like Setsuna/Ruru moving in with Love/Hana, no. We’ve had Cures that were related to each other but typically said relative isn’t part of the core team (like Fortune/Tender for example). That would be nice to see though.

Also, we’ve had high schoolers before so why not a Precure that’s already an adult as part of a future team?

re: the Precure gamer themed season idea.

I'd love if it focused on villainizing the typical "young male jerk gamer" stereotype that these boys fit, one which I've encountered a lot on the real life internet. And also, focused on the idea of making games progressive and imaginative and friendly to people like Hikaru. Doesn't neccessarily have to be female exclusive, in regards to the people intended to identify with it, though. But anybody who doesn't feel welcome in gaming or game development communities in general for any reason - usually it's because they are outcasted for being too "weird" or too innocent or for breaking the rules of what people think a game should be - and also, it should maybe touch on support for fan games and villainize those that go too far with copyright claims.

    • Wow

    • I should add, the last two bits I wrote were mainly about game developers.

About regular gamers, I think it should also villainize those who get too "competitive" to the point it takes the imagination out of games. Especially when people become unable to use their favorite characters or combine a team of their favorites and are instead forced to use ones with viable stats or ones that fit together properly in order to stand a chance. And, as an example if someone likes to use a team of 3 pokemon together, due to them being related storywise, like Articuno x Zapdos x Moltres, that should be celebrated instead of scorned and discouraged by competitive play.

It’ll make them seem more manipulative. And maybe, somewhat like the Selfish Agents, Are the ones who actually convince their victims into turning into monsters. Like at a time where they just can’t think morally right.

I mean I know that similar things have been done, but I sometimes wonder what it’d be like if it were done more.

I know it’s a weird idea, but it seems pretty cool in my idea, aha XD

    • TV Ashai is one of Japan’s oldest networks (and hosts so many popular long running shows that it would be financial suicide to get rid of it), is coming up on its 60th anniversary next year, already has shows lined up for that year (including a new Kamen Rider and a Japanese remake of 24), there are no articles about a shutdown, there is no reason for it to shutdown, literally no one is talking about a shutdown outside of here and all it takes is a quick Google search to confirm all of this. It’s 100% fake.

Again, if someone has a reliable source saying otherwise post it. If you don’t or can’t find one then don’t even bother replying to this and just go back to speculating about the next season.

Back on topic, a few other themes I’d like to see in Precure one day:

      -Ninjas

      -Dinosaurs

-Time Travel (Hugtto sort of did this but in this case it would be the basis of the entire season)

-A Gokaiger/Kamen Rider Decade esque season where the current team would meet up with and transform into past Cures (or since the teams are kind of uneven in terms of numbers they could instead gain a new attack reminiscent of a past team after gaining the approval of that team’s representative(s))

For time travel, it would be cool if the show did things Avengers: Endgame style. In that movie, rather than going into their past, the main characters went into the past of alternate timelines. That means that if a character changed something in the past of that timeline, it didn't affect the present of their timeline. This way, time paradoxes could be avoided. You could even have a character kill their past self without destroying their present self.

I like your idea of characters transforming into past Cures. Imagine something like Happiness Charge's Pretty Cards, but with the past Cures' costumes on them. They could come with a special skill, too.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, I imagine the best way to do it would be to treat it like a form change (that is, change the suit but leave the head and face the same). Since the teams are rather uneven maybe it would be best to just have two Cures to start with and then bump it up to six by the end.

In fact, since Toei seems reluctant to actually age their older characters you could combine this with the time travel aspect (like the villains are screwing up history somehow and it’s up to the current team to set things right). As such, each “world” they visited would be slightly off from what we remember from that season.

    • Also in regards to the transforming thing I just had an idea for a potential plot to a series like this (which I’m calling Legend Dreamer Precure unless someone has a better title)

In the near future, darkness has covered the world. Humanity has been driven into small communities that are heavily monitored and the people live without hope.

One day, a young girl named Kyuseishu Aya is out gathering supplies for her family when suddenly she’s struck on the head by a small fairy creature named Kyua (Cure) that fell from the sky.

The fairy brings with her a startling revelation: this world was once protected by legendary warriors known as Precure. However, a malevolent entity known as Cronos has been altering time to not only make it so these warriors never existed, but also claiming their lost powers as his own (condensing them down into special stones)

Kyua (a former minion of Cronos), had a change of heart and fought against him, however she only managed to recover two stones as well as a set of mysterious bottles known as Curefumes. The other stones were scattered across the timestream.

After one of Cronos’ henchmen discovers them Aya winds up using one of the bottles to protect her new friend and a Precure is once again reborn in the world. By attaching one of the stones she can preform a process known as Soul Evolution, allowing her to take on the form and powers of one of her predecessors.

Now it’s up to Aya to gather allies, restore history to normal and bring light back to the world.

The gimmick would be that the tribute episodes are set in semi-AU’s to reflect the change in history. As such every world has something wrong with it (generally that the circumstances that lead to the Cures of that era gaining their powers didn’t happen or events occurred in a vastly different way) and it’s up to the new team to set things right again (with the fairy helping them along with the aid of the Precure encyclopedia from New Stage 2 as well as using her powers to send them back in time to begin with).

When an old team is restored, the stones associated with them also grow in power, gaining the current wielder access to new abilities and (where applicable) new forms as well.

    • It might be a bit too dark for Precure admittedly but I can’t really think of another means for the current team to get their hands on old Precure powers at the moment.

Another idea is a season where the Precure don’t have secret identities (or at least get revealed early in the season). It could be interesting to see how they deal with being celebrities on top of their normal lives (the fairy of that season could be their manager). You could explore the downsides of such a situation as well such as say a Cure (or the whole team) messes up big time during a fight (maybe resulting in a civilian getting hurt in the process) and have to deal with the resulting media backlash. Or another scenario where one of the Cures debates quitting the team because the pressure is just getting too much for her.

You could also do a story where the government or someone else tries to mass produce the Precure powers in order to create an army and some unsavory person manages to get her hands on a transformation device. In fact, you could have the villains of that season be Precure themselves, thereby creating a much more personal conflict.

    • No, Anzan. Pretty Cure are NOT allowed to be celebrities. And I am not saying that. I'm saying what Tarte from Fresh said. That is against Pretty Cure rules. The Pretty Cure are superheroes whose identities must be kept hidden. Downsides of media backlash shouldn't be a subject matter in an action kid series because it detracts what action is about. And the Pretty Cure being the villains themselves is a stupid idea because it doesn't make the Pretty Cure look more threatening. An idea like that should only be used for a non-superhero genre. Pretty Cure can't be celebrities. They are legendary warriors, and that is the gist of it.

I have a much better idea. Have a season where the pink Cure is a mentor, and helping the other Cures get stronger, giving them more spotlight than the pink. They can have 2-3 Cures. Pink, green, and white.

    • Thanks, MomoLoveBaby. The celebrity downside idea could've been used for a different show. Now the instructor Cure idea came from Super Gals! where Ran is the protagonist and leader, and Aya and Miyu the main characters who got boyfriends at the end.

    • Not every season follows the same rules (or does so for the same reasons if they do) though. Fresh, DokiDoki, Go Princess, and to a somewhat lesser extent Hugtto all got their identities revealed by the end of the series (also the Happiness Charge Cures technically already were celebrities of a sort seeing as the concept of Precure was a global phenomenon in that show, not to mention people who were already minor celebrities in addition to being Precure such as Makoto and Kirara), this just pushes that up earlier in the season so we can see what the ramifications of something like that could be. I agree it’s probably not a good fit for a series like this though.

While an entire group of evil Precure might be a bit much but a slightly more amoral Cure could potentially be interesting (maybe using some kind of man made knockoff of the main team’s power source to get around the whole angle of usually having to preform some kind of heroic act first in order to activate the powers). She would of course have a change of heart and join the team at the end regardless, it’d just take a bit longer than normal.

We’ve had plenty of instances of evil clones (which Dark Precure technically counts as), and a few involving brainwashing/mind control but I don’t think we’ve ever had someone with equal power to the primary team acting on her own will (the closest thing I can think of is Regina but she wasn’t a Cure).

    • How about... a whole army of Precure, except every single one of them are all still good well moraled warriors of love!

And said army of cures includes boys, robots, aliens, animals, plants, inanimate objects... and perhaps even a whole planet itself becomes a cure! and the same power cure yell used to turn a whole town of people into cures, gets used as a positive wave on a whole parking lot filled with cars, turning them into cures as well (they'd look like transformers and would basically be the same thing)!

I know somebody's gonna shoot this down, but that's apparently just how it goes. I saw some of the really wacky but interesting ideas getting posted but also shot down and people going back and forth so I had to join in on it!

How does that work? When trying to be original, the logic, build up, and execution has to succeed. And that is a fact. It will always be a fact. If those things don't meet, it will fail.

Henri wakamiya from Hugtto Precure is a male who becomes a pretty cure, Cure Ifini.

    • Male Precure isn’t quite so far fetched as we’ve already technically had 4 (Cure Sebastian, Cure Unlovely, “Cure Waffle”/Rio, and Cure Infini). All of those were basically one shots though and I’m not sure how I’d feel about one becoming a core team member. We’ve also had our fair share of Cures who weren’t technically human as well.

Otherwise yeah, I agree that idea’s a little too out there (also if some of their other productions are anything to go by Toei doesn’t usually do that well with hero casts bigger than 7 members).

        Loading editor
    • It failed because it goes against what Pretty Cure and a magical girl series is all about. I know plenty people who hated it (Ryanswan5, and Animelovefan), and because the messages behind Hugtto sound like political propaganda that shouldn't be used in any kid show, which also includes telling kids to become tsundere, and have babies at a young age. Kid shows aren't supposed to preach SJW/political messages, they're supposed to educate and entertain kids. That's why I think Tarte is the best male Cure because he did fight and used the finishing move at the monster. I still would love to see a male ally just like Seiji. I'm still going for the instructor Cure idea.

        Loading editor
    • So you believe that teaching kids to follow their dreams and do what makes them happy (which is literally what the central message of Hugtto was supposed to be) is a bad thing for some reason. Ok then.

    • Anyway, as mentioned I’d like to see a Ninja season though I’m not sure how you’d make that work in a Magical Girl anime (a team of kunoichi in training tasked with striking down the darkness in people’s hearts perhaps?). Dinosaurs might also be fun but I’m not sure how well it would sell with the show’s primary audience of young girls.

      There's infinite possibilities, afterall! <3

    • And teaching that we should accept boys in dresses, for example, that is not political or "SJW". But it is educating, as you said yourself the show should do.

Saw no sign of "having babies at a young age", either, based on the fact that Hana had her baby in the future at the age of an average adult parent.

    • If Toei goes for a pirate motif:

      • There will be 8 Cures (6 of which are siblings and 3 are cousins). There will be pirate and water themed names. The colours are pink, red, blue, yellow, green, black, gold, silver and bronze (as 2020 is an Olympic year).
      • They going to have parrots as mascots (the parrots are the Cures' parents that lost their memory as parents and they are trying to regain them). Their mother is a pink parrot and the father is a red parrot.
      • Their home will be a pirate ship which is also use for combat too.
      • They will have a magical flintlock and a pirate sword. They will also use coins for transformation and attack moves. The transformation device will be a miniature treasure box. They communicate with each other using a treasure map.
      • The school will be a floating school.
      • The villains could be sea animals (real and mythological) who tried to take away the world's bodies of water.
      • It will took place in Okinawa or a fictional city island in the Tokyo Islands.
      • At the end of each episode, they will discuss an ocean, a sea, a river or a lake.
      • Each episode will have the word "kaizoku".
      • The transformation will feature the pirate Cures standing above a body of water and will pose in front of their pirate flag (which a black flag with the pink insignia of the pirate Cures).
      • The insignia will featue a stylized letter "P" with two swords behind.
      • The final episode of Star Twinkle will have the 2020 lead as a civilian will rescue Fuwa and Prunce from the Notraiders by swinging a rope from the 2020 Cures's ship then later, she transforms into the 2020 pink Cure explaing that she and her sisters are actually pirates and fight the Notraiders and her sisters to joins the fight. The 2020 pink Cure will join the Star Twinkle Cures to fight Darknest. Before this happens, Hoshina Hikaru talked to a girl wearing akin to a pirate (who is the lead 2020 Cure) thinking that she is just a girl wearing a pirate costume (the pirate girl responded that "you'll see about that").

    • 8 Cures are not going to happen because black and bronze Cures don't exist, the gold Cure is the same as a yellow Cure, and a silver Cure would have to be white. 8 Cures won't be able to have different personality or skill or even enough screen time. The Olympics have NO relationship with pirates. The Pretty Cure would never promote events like that. They will only have holiday episodes. What floating school? Islands don't have that unless you're referring to a treehouse style school. I think a samurai season is much better since Pretty Cure is set in Japan.

That is a terrible idea for any kid show. That's like saying there should be a Pretty Cure season where the Pretty Cure are bank robbers. As a musician in training, I know for sure pirating music is and will always be illegal that I know better from Lars Ulrich. Sorry Beautifulsatori, your idea may be original, but that doesn't mean it will be great no matter how you slice it.

    • Well regardless of the specifics of that person's ideas, still I think a Pirate themed season might sorta be within reach depending how they do it.

Since Star Twinkle was officially labeled as a "tribute to 80s nostalgia" most likely primarily to sailor moon, but still at the same time very different from Sailor Moon and more true to what Precure is like as a franchise nonetheless.

They could do this as sort of a tribute to One Piece next.... just, you know, keep the pirate theme but still stay true to what Precure is and stands for. I imagine it'd take a lot of thinking on how to do it in a way where they make it work, but I still think it could be done!

I agree but take away the digital piracy part, I wanted a Precure that pays tribute to One Piece and Gokaiger. Don't worry, Metal. There is shows from Japan that are dedicated to outlaws like Lupin the Third, Black Lagoon, Lupinranger vs Patoranger, etc.

The actual pirate idea, though, can work.

If the digital piracy thing were included, I imagine it'd only be a small minor thing that merely gets touched on at some point... not something majorly recurring enough to even count as a subtheme of the show, necessarily. Just one minor moment or something to indicate where they stand on it or something... just a random part of the moral included in a filler episode, maybe.

    • Technically there have been Black, Gold, and Silver Cures but officially they’re grouped as Pink, Yellow, and Purple respectively

Cure Black: Has very little pink on her costume and is also literally named Cure Black.

Cure Sunshine: Is a much darker shade of yellow than her predecessors or successors and her signature attack is called Gold Forte Burst (reminder that during Blossom and Marine’s version of that attack they call out Pink and Blue respectively).

Cure Moonlight: The only thing really purple about her is her hair, her main attack is Silver Forte Wave and she’s also literally referred to as a Silver Precure in an episode of HeartCatch.

Similarly, Cure Sunny is an Orange Cure but is officially considered Red (and Parfait is more teal colored but is officially Green). Dark Precure is also black but she’s an enemy basically the whole season so I’m not sure if she really counts.

As for a Pirate themed season, as long as you made it more like One Piece or Gokaiger I think it could possibly work. That is, they’re technically pirates but they’re also good people at heart, it’s more about freedom than being actual criminals (though we already have a Cure in the most recent season who’s literally a thief) and they generally only go after the bad guys.

Do you ever mention the digital piracy thing? There are some seasons that have evil versions of the cures, so maybe there could be one episode where a villain copies the pirate Cures.

      Good idea!

The Constellation Fortune Telling of the final episode will have Aquairus, Cancer and Pisces, quotes relating to the oceans or sailors, items related to something nautical or water, colours that fit the pirate theme and lucky number with sound nautical.

    • I’d question why pirates need schools but I just got an idea to add onto that.

Basically in this season the Precure would essentially have three identities: their normal civilian name and form, their pirate persona in which they would wear masks and refer to one another by code names when in public (if anyone’s familiar with the Persona series think something along the lines of the Phantom Thieves from P5), and finally their Cure form.

As such, the secret identity aspect would be handled a little differently (specifically, the secret would be that they’re pirates. As long as they were dressed as such they could transform into Precure while in public). It would grant the group a bit more flexibility while at the same time still maintaining the secret like normal.

It might also be cool if the season took place in a One Piece style world divided up into separate islands. I liked how Star Twinkle gave us a lot of unique locations and this would be a good way to keep going with that idea.

        Loading editor
    • I got another idea - they can portray schools in the more realistic oppressive way they are in real life, and, pirate cures can use their sword on the school's authority figures! As well as on the government (LDP, Japan's ruling party who is Trumpy and evil)! Not to kill them of course though, just purify them, as usual!

Also, the cures can join Sea Shepherd (who have literally identified themselves as pirates before) and help stop Japan's evil whaling operation that the government supports!

        Loading editor
    • That seems a little much to be honest, I would envision them as being more akin to the Straw Hats/Gokaiger. That is, it’s more about freedom than it is about stealing and killing (and of course they would usually just go after the bad guys).

Plus, we’ve already gotten a Cure who was a former thief in the current season (though she was more of a Robin Hood type to be fair) and there was a whole episode where the Precure essentially helped her pull off a heist. This would essentially just be expanding that into a full team.

        Loading editor
    • I agree it'd be too much, I just posted it for fun :)

though, my example did include "just go after bad guys". It's just.... I view the legal authorities, and those other things I named, etc, as bad guys (many of whom oppress freedom)!

        Loading editor
    • Fair, I just don’t really see a show like this tackling those kind of issues (or at least, not so blatantly at any rate).

        Loading editor
    • Not so blatantly is key!

But as I (and also you and others) said before, the show has already touched on the idea of putting morality above legality in various ways. I especially see that as a theme in Star Twinkle, including in the movies. <3

I think the show has it's way of getting it's message across to adults, without using adult themes, simply by implanting ideas that make people think. You can, in your adult life, apply the message of Precure to your own situation, and imagine what the cures would do, or what their stance would be, if they or somebody on their show was faced with it.

        Loading editor
    • That’s true, and it’s not like the the show hasn’t touched on darker/more controversial themes before (look at some of the stuff Hugtto got away with for example, also back in HeartCatch we literally see Yuri’s father get murdered in front of her).

I don’t see them being quite as upfront about it (this is still a kids show after all) but it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility either.

        Loading editor
    • Although Star Twinkle feels more "light" and "safer" than Hugtto, and therefore I thus prefer it slightly, I don't think Hugtto went too far or did anything truly wrong. It touched on some great things, too, such as accepting gender nonconformity like boys in dresses, which is something that affects me personally and when I saw it supported so blatantly, I actually had a huge sigh of happiness and relief, because prior to Hugtto I was, tbh, in the back of my mind sorta afraid of where the show truly stood on it. Although I always figured, if touched on, Precure would do the right thing about it.... I was really glad to see it touched on and confirmed! And unlike HeartCatch, it had a completely happy ending where all the villains reformed and nobody died.

As for what happened near the end of HeartCatch... I do think that's a bit too much, but I think Toei kind of realized that and that it's now a thing of the past, and that the show has just plain changed formula after that (Riko's father was blasted by a villain attack too, you know, except the outcome of it was just plain different, for no apparent reason). They like never did anything that extreme again. <3

It's not as if, however, that the Lion King (a Disney movie that's rated G) didn't show Mufasa just laying there dead...

Though if somebody holds the opinion that possibly, that movie should've been rated PG instead of G, I won't completely disagree with them.

        Loading editor
    • Hugtto was surprisingly progressive for a Japanese show I’ll give it that (it did sort of dance around certain issues like depression and suicide but it wasn’t focused on too heavily). And yeah, while HeartCatch is still one of my favorite seasons I will agree that it kind of went too far in some areas.

Granted, there was some pretty dark stuff in Smile (Almost everything involving Joker, Pierrot literally committing mass genocide in the finale), and DokiDoki (Makoto is essentially a knight who failed her kingdom, Regina attempting suicide to save Mana, Bel killing Leva and Gula in cold blood, most of King Selfish and Marie Ange’s backstory, etc) but to be fair most of that got undone by the end (well except for Marie Ange but technically she’s still around as two different people and a fairy baby).

By the end of HeartCatch however, Yuri had basically lost everything except her friends and her mom and there’s no way she can ever get any of that back.

Even in Star Twinkle we’ve got stuff like Madoka’s somewhat emotionally abusive father and Yuni’s people currently being frozen in stone while at the same time being fully alive and conscious (as evidenced by Aiwan turning one of them into a NoTrigger).

And yeah, by the established laws regarding space travel technically the entire Star Twinkle team is an illegal organization (Earth is not part of the Alliance and Yuni is an infamous Phantom Thief). But fortunately the GA wisely seems willing to overlook that currently in the name of restoring peace.

All and all I’m fine with Precure tackling some more complex social issues in the future, just as long as it’s handled the right way.

    • What exactly do you mean by Pierrot committing mass genocide? I don't remember something like that, unless it was something that was undone, but in that case whatever happened, still I think "genocide" sounds like it might be an exaggerated word for it. The rest of the things you named still don't sound nearly as bad though, not as bad as killing off a cure's own parent, not in the backstory, but by a villain in the present events of the show, right after he had been reformed from being a villain himself and ruining their happy family reunion.... The thing with Bel was a bit disturbing to me, but I can overlook it, and again, I think the expression "cold blood" is kind of an exaggerated way to put it...

As for Madoka's father... I'm just hoping my theory I said before of him being Darknest is true, because government bigots like him, are REALLY evil to me and I'd absolutely LOVE to see the cures flat out fight him in a big battle! And I don't think he's gonna die or anything in this case. <3

        Loading editor
    • He blows up half of the earth, so that’s basically implied yes. Everything gets undone by the end of course though.

As for Madoka’s father, I’m still sticking with the Darknest theory for now (he’s the only one with the technology to pull it off, they have somewhat similar mindsets and they probably wouldn’t still be keeping Darknest’s voice actor a secret by now if they didn’t have something to hide) but even if that’s the case he’s still probably going to get redeemed somehow by the end.

        Loading editor
    • Yes, and also, even though he said "sympathizing with aliens cannot be allowed", fact is, he never said that he himself has never knowingly met them, or that he doesn't manipulate them into being his servants!

I'm quite certain at this point that all the Star Twinkle villains are sympathetic and will be redeemed at the end. But if this theory is true, that's all the more reason for it... it would involve Madoka and/or the cures having to convince him of their ideals somehow, I'm sure.

        Loading editor
    • Also considering what he did to Aiwan a little while back he clearly has no sympathy for his own servants either (in fact based on some stuff Kappard said a while back it’s possible that the NotRaider generals are conscripted from planets that have already been conquered/destroyed) so that still tracks.

It’s possible the show could go in a different direction (even so there 100% is some secret behind Darknest that we don’t know about yet) but the more I think about it the more the Madoka’s dad theory makes total sense to me.

Even if it’s not true I am convinced that there is still going to be some kind of confrontation between him and Madoka by the end of the series. The Precure are absolutely getting their identities exposed by the time of the final arc as well, there are just too many factors currently in play for them to keep it secret for much longer.

        Loading editor
    • Well, it's like.... Kappard said his planet was "destroyed" (same was said about Planet Rainbow, which just involved them being turned to stone and not gone forever, but that doesn't change the fact that what happened was bad and hurtful).

Aiwarn said that Lala losing her AI "was nothing compared to what she lost", so most likely, same type of thing happened to her too.

Tenjo hasn't said much yet, but probably same deal for her too.

Garouga said some idealogical stuff in his battle with Cure Star (I saw clips from ToeiPrettyGuardians, even though the full episode sub isn't out yet), which just had me feeling like he too, was probably a victim in some way, to the point he had trouble believing in the idea that Hikaru's ideals could actually hold true.

I imagine that most likely, they were all conquered by Earthlings, possibly by Madoka's father and/or an organization led by him. Darknest likely offered to be their "salvation", but meanwhile keeping his identity as being their own conquerer a secret from them... (hence why I say he manipulates them)

        Loading editor
    • Another thing is, I feel like Earth in particular, is a point of contention for the rest of the universe.

I feel like perhaps it isn't seen as "just another planet", not even as one that "isn't part of the starscape alliance", but, singled out specifically as being a problem or threat in particular.

That seems to be why all the villains and even non-villains (such as Yuni) just seem to have trouble believing that someone from Earth who is as nice as Hikaru is can even possibly exist.

Even Lala, was a bit surprised to find "an earthling who isn't afraid of aliens", despite the fact that she accepted it much more easily.

        Loading editor
    • And this is slightly off topic... but I'm really wondering about the Star Princesses.
Like, they're called "princesses", but there's 12 of them, we don't see their parents (kings/queens/etc) anywhere, and we know absolutely nothing about them as characters or as people. And we know nothing about what type of lives they live, other than that they each represent a constellation and that they "protect the balance of the universe". And I wonder if they are truly happy, just living in palaces that appear to be very tiny?
With this bit I am simply wondering if these ideas will actually become important later in the story, or if these characters are merely "little girl pandering" that we are supposed to just accept and not wonder about. I'm ok with it either way, but I really am curious though.

        Loading editor
    • Related to that, something I really like about Star Twinkle is the theme of family. We’ve got a group of 5 girls (plus two fairy-esque aliens) who are of different races, social classes and/or even species in some cases and all have some kind of dysfunctional family life of sorts to varying degrees (Yuni’s probably the worst case as she literally lost everything and has been fighting desperately to get it all back by any means necessary, even if it means temporarily allying herself with the one who stole her entire world to begin with) but they all managed to find a new home with each other and experience things most of them probably never even imagined.

While she might not have as much focus as previous Pinks Hikaru is clearly the glue that binds them all together and this is likely going to start to play a major role as we move closer to the end. In fact, it’s possible that Earth may even finally join the Alliance by the time everything is said and done.

    • Yes! I like all those ideas, too!

I would be shocked if they made the pirate Precures more sea-based than space-based (less like Gokaiger and more like One Piece).

        Loading editor
    • Never even heard of it until just now, I guess Magical Girl pirates has been done before then. I would still go with sea based pirates though as doing another space season so soon after Star Twinkle would probably feel a bit redundant.

        Loading editor
    • On another note, this is more of a storyline idea than a season idea but since we’ve had a lot of villains become Cures over the years what if we were to do the reverse instead.

Basically one of the main Cures gets captured and brainwashed by the villains and winds up becoming a general in their ranks for an arc or two before inevitably being brought back to the light by her teammates (if anyone is familiar with the live action Sailor Moon series think of something along the lines of the Dark Mercury arc).

Granted, Happiness Charge technically did something like this with Cure Tender (and though he wasn’t a Precure, Seiji as well later on) but my idea would involve one of the core team members and last for a little longer before being undone.

From the context I think Aiwan was mostly referring to Bakenyan betraying her and her losing her spot in the NotRaiders. But I suppose there could be something deeper to it as well.

Not only was his home planet presumably destroyed but Hikaru’s blind optimism seems to straight up infuriate Kappard, which makes me think there might be something else going on that he’s not saying.

Tenjo really hasn’t done anything warranting sympathy yet (in fact based on her personality I wouldn’t be surprised if she sold out her homeworld for the sake of power). We’ll see of course.

Although this clearly refers to the NotRaiders here, fact is, Aiwarn clearly cares about "belonging" somewhere, and I think she wouldn't be fighting for an evil group like the NotRaiders, most likely unless, her original belonging place was probably also taken from her...

    • Not to mention the fact that she genuinely seemed to think of Bakenyan as a friend (probably her only one at that) and was beyond furious when Yuni revealed herself.

At the moment she not only wants Cure Cosmo dead but specifically it also has to be by her hand alone. Conversely, she’s also the one who stole Yuni’s world from her and forced her into the life she currently leads. Combine this together and you’ve established a pretty good rivalry and I’m very curious to see where it ultimately leads.

I agree that in context Aiwan is so desperate to have somewhere to belong that without it she’s basically nothing. In her mind, revenge is literally all she has left at this point.

While I’m not sure I want her to be a Precure (though it could be interesting if she was forced to team up with Yuni again for some reason) Aiwan has kind of become a surprisingly compelling villain and I’d be curious to know a bit more of her backstory. • Black is officially considered a Pink Cure and Pink is always going to be the leader (though it could be argued that Futari, Splash Star, and Maho Girls don’t really have a “leader” per se. Nor was Tsubomi really the leader type in HeartCatch). I agree it would be fun to switch things up for a change though.

It'd include the government for sure, maybe the stereotype of random "stupid people" such as online trolls, and although maybe this wasn't what you intended, it'd also include oppressive school trachers/authorities!

Since you're making school out to be a good thing though, which imo it should be (it has great potential to be good, despite most of my known experiences with it to be bad), then, perhaps it could just villainize one or some teachers, rather than all of them? Or have the school board higher ups be evil, but the lower down teachers that are actually in the classroom with the cures, be sympathetic to the cures and defy the higher ups...

    • That idea about smarts vs. idiots is really outlandish. Stuff like lessons should only be used for episodes. Putting "idiot" as a name for an evil organization suprprisingly doesn't it any less idiotic. Online trolls shouldn't be something to have in a kid show because it is illegal for anyone under the age of 13 to be internet users. Masha07, you really didn't put any thought into it nor know anything about kids, do you?

but Hana has been shown to use the internet. She's 13+, even though most of the show's audience isn't. (so has charaleet, who also touched on more complex internet themes like having subscribers on youtube)

And even though the show doesn't have internet bullies (which is what trolls are, to me), fact is it does have bullies... the more dark kind.

    • Look at Hugtto for example, there’s a flashback later on showing that despite her brave face and positive attitude Hana...didn’t exactly have the greatest life before meeting Saaya and the others, mostly due to problems at school.

In fact, I heard somewhere that the writer for the series dropped some hints in interviews and the like that the Hana from the original future actually killed herself some time after Hugami/Hugtan was born (most likely because she didn’t have the support network she wound up building up in the series itself). This of course is what prompted George Kurai to set everything into motion to begin with.

    • It wasn't really established in Hugtto, and again, time travel is not something that makes a show great. There is going to be confusion and probably more better decision making than the writers. I think the person is just trying hard to make us like Hugtto, which doesn't work. Why would anyone commit suicide after having a baby? That almost sounds like what Kurt Cobain did to make his music successful than the more talented Alice In Chains, which doesn't work for me at least. They could've let the season speak for itself, then know what these writers and the directors were thinking. Some subject matters just shouldn't be in a kid series, not even using that as an educated lesson. I'm still going for the samurai season. For my own idea, the pink Cure should be the instructor helping the 2 Cures, the forest green, and the white to be skillful and strong,

Imo this is already what they did, though. They made the show ambiguous on purpose.

The reason for this - even though the writers have their own thoughts, which they eventually shared, they still want other people to be allowed to develop their own thoughts on it instead.

Mind you, my preferences are still for the show being not ambiguous but also without darker or hidden themes. But despite that, no true harm has been done.

And, as I said before, although these themes are less preferred by my own preferences, hence why I said "lightness" and "safety" as a reason why I like Star Twinkle slightly better earlier in this thread, fact is, like I also said before (in reply to people elsewhere on this wikia who posted the details of this interview before and were talking about it), this type of issues actually affect kids! It's more promenient with older kids maybe, but still. As long as the message of it is ultimately positive, and any bad endings are prevented/undone, I don't think Precure has truly done anything wrong.

        Loading editor
    • Because she was depressed and people suffering from that don’t always act rationally (which actually is implied in the series itself). And Hugtto wasn’t the first Precure show to address more serious issues like that (nor was it the only kids show in general to ever do so, Japanese or otherwise). As long as it’s handled right I don’t see a problem bringing it up in children’s media. They’re gonna have to learn how to deal with it eventually after all.

Back on topic a season where the mentor was also part of the core team as you kind of mentioned above could be interesting as well.

Well she wouldn’t exactly be a Magical “Girl” anymore in that case. But then again we’ve already had stuff like Cure Flower, the original Cure Ange from the HeartCatch movie, Cure Lumiere and we know that kids in their mid to late teens can also be Precure (heck, you don’t even have to be human or even female in some cases either) so why not have an adult woman Cure as part of a main team as well?

        Loading editor
    • No. 13-18 aged girls as always because the leader would still have to fight somehow. Adults are more like supporting characters, they are pretty much done developing. I can't think of good themes that haven't been done that can be properly executed. Fruits and vegetables are the themes that come to my mind because I think they're healthier, and fruits taste good. Toei can try reusing the themes. The shapes (circle, triangle, and square) theme would just be silly.

I assume all of them. Other series might not've had it, but they never 100% said it can't happen, either.

Even if some of them said things that were questionable in that regard. (Ace saying a Precure must be a "first class lady" and all star movie saying "any girl can become a precure"). Even then, it's just that character's opinion. The truth that there are infinite possibilities could still, one day, prove them wrong.

But I think what Hugtto did, was intentionally, confirm the answers to these questions everybody wanted to know about the whole franchise and where it stands, once and for all. Any fan watching who might've been fearing exclusion, now knows otherwise.

    • One of Toei's interviews also specificially mentioned that "there are messages written on the internet, saying 'I live my life as a Precure'", acknowledging that they are real, too (even if metaphorically), and that many fans actually do want to be one (or try to follow their morals in real life - that's the metaphorical way of being one).

My own website, of course, has one of those messages written on it.

Seeing that interview, really made me cry happily....

    • Do you have a link? It seems that rules change even in the season itself like Hugtto. I think Harry is the one who said only girls can be Pretty Cures, then everyone including the males became temporary Cures in the semi-final episode. The Atsutoshi Umezawa seasons is where I believe they used the girls-only rule. People say it's because each seasons are apart from each other, but the Cures met each other that even if you were to consider the Stars series noncanon. Events from the past Cures still happened, even if you were to assume it's the mascots who makes all the rules, despite saying Pretty Cure are legendary warriors. The reason fans including boys are mad is because they expected Pretty Cure stick with the rule that the series is known for. Kind of like when Power Rangers fans hated Turbo and Justin because that is the Zordon era where they decided to reject the "teenagers with attitude" rule. That would be like having a boy to be a Powerpuff Girl. For someone's ninja and my idea for a season, they should use the girls-only rule, while also having the strong mind, heart, and strength requirement.

        Loading editor
    • As far as I am concerned, people who are mad at the show for it's heartful attempts to include everyone, because they believe in "rules", can shove it. <- That includes boys who think that way, too.

Star Twinkle, although it hasn't done what Hugtto did, also makes it's own "screw the rules" theme quite clear. That is the type of thing that Precure wants to be known for! At the very least, one important thing that it wants to stand for.

Harry never said boys can't be Precure. He merely called out Henri for wearing feminine clothing, which the cures quickly refuted. It's also, once again, just his opinion and he doesn't make the "rules of the universe", even if you actually believe such a thing exists..

That being said, here's the links.

The line I said about messages written on the real life internet, is here: https://ascii.jp/elem/000/001/807/1807731/index-4.html

(on page 4, somewhere, requiring crappy google translate, but it's there, I can assure you)

And of course, let's not forget this one: https://grapee.jp/en/104223

A well translated article, where a Hugtto creator clearly said "anybody can become a cure", right after being asked if there'd ever be a boy cure. With plenty of details given as to the reasons why and how they think on this. And I rest my case that he speaks on behalf of the whole franchise, not just one season of it or his own. Saying "this rule applies in this universe, but not this one" is petty to me. Show made it clear that there's infinite possibilities, and the whole franchise is in a multiverse with the possibility of dimension crossing, anyways. Any "rules" that might possibly be there, can always change anyways.

        Loading editor
    • I think the "you can do anything, you can become anything" really goes too far because that can mean any boy or girl can choose to be a tsundere. Now back to 2020 season topic.

        Loading editor
    • I think an important thing to realize is, also:
there's definitely a difference, between Toei having a rule about what their employees can and can't create or put on a show, vs an actual rule of the show's lore.
Toei simplied forced their employees to stay away from the idea of adding male cures.... at least for a time.
Though, the characters clearly never were opposed to it.
For example, Ichika mistook Akira for a boy. Even when she became Precure, this misconception remained, and Ichika wans't all like "omg! male precure!" or anything like that - as the idea was completely normal and fine to her. It wasn't until long after the battle, at the tail end of the episode, that she actually found out Akira was a girl...
And then there's the more minor examples, of the HeartCatch cures wondering about that guy they imagined as Cure Fire (I forget his name since I didn't watch HeartCatch and don't care for it much) and the Suite cures questioning the same thing that Ouji might be Cure Muse. Their gender literally made no difference to them.
And Cure Sebastian, I should clarify, was NOT just an imagination scene and it actually happened. And sure, he became Batman, but that's because, like any cure, his transformation expresses his inner beauty outwardly - same reason Cure Doctor Traum became a giant robot dude, instead of a dude in a dress, because that's what he wanted to be. While I suppose the argument could be made that it only worked on Sebastian because the commune was artificial, that argument is weak because, you know, infinite possibilities? If you can't achieve your dreams one way, then find another way. If there's not enough Prehearts, simply have a miracle happen that splits one of them into two.
Cure Tarte, was a weird one, since it was a male character's soul, in a female character's body (even though an imagination scene earlier in the episode had showed it the other way around). But the message here, was just that if they work together and are in sync, anything is possible! I don't think Tarte's gender wasn't actually supposed to matter here, and it wasn't extreme enough to break what at the time, was toei's rules.
All these things that happened prior to Hugtto, made the "infinite possibilies" philosophy that Precure holds as an entire franchise quite clear, but possibly only to people who thought more deeply about the series, and there were also plenty of ways people could cast doubt on them.
So Hugtto just decided to utterly destroy all that doubt by doing everything they did, thus for the most part confirming or at least alluding to that these examples are valid. But when Henri became a Precure, that wasn't enough for some people. The finale where the whole town transformed, toei pretty much had to do it, to prove that to be a boy precure, you didn't somehow have to fit in with the others or be the "exception to the rule", as there actually wasn't truly a rule to begin with, ever. You didn't have to be a boy that was young, thin, good looking by the world's standards, and liked to dress effeminately. You could literally be anyone at all. Like what Anzan previously said, teenage girls are simply toei's norm. But they are in no way a requirement by the show's lore, even a little bit!

So basically you hate Hugtto's tagline?

Doesn't change the fact that it's extremely beautiful and has touched the hearts of a lot of people, including myself.

And it's not like the show didn't point out that the idea could be abused. Miden abused it (while also literally saying it).

    • All these things, even the ones in Hugtto, have been temporary so far.

But, I do not think that matters.

They've made it clear that it CAN happen, and I guess, they are at a point where they're still avoiding having them as core team members. But that's once again, Toei's rule, not the show's. Them only transforming once or twice, and the circumstancers how they do so, are merely Toei's plot excuse for not having them as core team members. Even if in Happiness Charge, Toei's excuse used for having non-core cures was a different one. They instead just implied they existed all over the world but barely focused on them.

        Loading editor
    • Also it’s not like every season follows the same general rules (or does so for the same reasons).

Take secret identities for example, Candy wanted the Smile team to have them basically because she thought they were cool and the only reason the Maho Girls never revealed themselves while in Magic World was simply because Riko thought it’d be too embarrassing for her. Plus a few teams wound up revealing their secret by the end anyway (including Fresh).

Like I said, while young girls will always be the norm in this series because that’s their target audience, the one element that does seem to remain consistent from season to season is that being a Precure requires a good heart and the courage to protect others even if it means risking your own life in the process (granted, Nagisa and Honoka were sort of forced into it at first and Megumi basically got her powers by accident but even they managed to earn their wings before long). In that sense, hypothetically anyone could have the potential to become one.

After all over the years we’ve had child Cures, teen Cures, adult Cures, Cures of different races and nationalities, Cures who weren’t even human (including a few man made entities like Mofurun and Ruru), and in some rare cases, Male Cures as well.

Also as others have mentioned there is nothing inherently wrong with Hugtto’s message. It’s stupid to think that only certain people should be allowed to follow their dreams just because a few of them make the wrong decision.

Even the best people still make mistakes but the key thing there is learning to live with them and more importantly be able to learn from them and correct them if they can. No two people are exactly the same after all.

And if those decisions wind up hurting others only then does it fall on others to stop them if the one in question is unable or unwilling to stop themselves. If it’s not hurting anybody then it’s not your business, plain and simple.

In fact I kind of wish more shows had messages like that. Kids are gonna have to learn how to deal with this kind of stuff eventually so why not better prepare them for it while they’re still young and impressionable

I probably wouldn’t count this as part of the main series but a live action Precure series could be cool as well (whether it be a remake of a past show ala what Sailor Moon did it a brand new series explicitly made for the medium).

You would also have to be very careful with how you use him (that is, he has to have roughly the same amount of focus as the rest of the team), this is still primarily a show aimed at young girls after all despite having elements that everyone can appreciate. It could still be done provided it was handled right of course.

      Makes sense!

I think when Henri as a male cure happened, it was like, they got people used to the idea by saying it's ok for boys to wear dresses and be princesses, first. So then when he became a cure, it wasn't so shocking anymore.

I think maybe Cure Waffle was rejected, simply because they thought it was too soon? As in, they wanted to "get it right", by portraying all the other stuff first....

So now maybe, eventually, a core male cure who isn't the lead, will at least be a considerable option for them sometime in the future, depending on what kind of character he is and the circumstances for him.

Then maybe, male lead even further in the future (I think though, if they do male lead, they probably would want there to be some reason behind it like what I said in my idea, was basically a themed story of sorts)

He was the first to actually be officially named as such however (aside from Cure Sebastian in DokiDoki but that was played more as a joke) and to be fair he did get a better first outing than Waffle did so maybe next time they try the whole male Cure angle again he’ll stick around a bit longer and then eventually we might finally get one as part of the core team.

Okay then i want you to read who's color of some Precures will be in my Precure AU:

      Futari wa Precure: Max Heart

Black is color, too, so why don't we make Cure Black a black leader?

Shiny Luminous' color will be rainbow, which means Heartiels.

      Futari wa Precure: Splash Star

I decided to make Cure Bloom's color red, because i think it's suitable for her.

Egret's color will be yellow, because her costume is more yellow-like to me.

Bright's(Michiru's) color will be green, because her costume is more green-like to me.

      Yes! Precure 5 GoGo!

Since i decided to make Coco and Natts the Cures in the AU, i wanted Love Rose(Coco) having an indigo color and Bright Rose(Natts) having a light-purple color. If you'll look closely at the Milky Palette, you wil understand why i decided to make Coco and Natts the Precures.

      Fresh Precure!

Cure Peach's color will be green, because Peach is not pink. Cure Peach's original color will be given to Cure Cherry(Chinen Miyuki)(yeah, as you can see, i decided there are going to be 5 Cures with the colors of their Clover symbol).

      Heartcatch Precure!

When the Dark Cure will become Cure Clover, she will have a green color.

      Suite Precure

      Since there are 8 Fairy Tones, i decided to make 8 Cures in the Suite team;

Naon Nishijima is going to be an orange Cure and she's going to be called Cure Rock.

Seika Higashiyama is going to be a yellow Cure and she's going to be called Cure Symphony.

Oto Miuchi(oc) is going to be agreen Cure called Cure Sound.

Suzu is going to appear in the series and she's going to be an indigo Cure and she's going to be called Cure Harmony.

Cure Beat's color is going to be not indigo - it's going to be blue, because her Fairy Tone is blue.

Cure Muse's color is going to be not yellow - it's going to be purple, because her Fairy Tone is purple.

      Smile Precure!

Cure Sunny's color is going to be red, because her hair, school tie, Cure Decor and the light in the Smile Pact are red. Her orange color is going to be given to Cure Real(Shinko Ma(oc)).

Candy is going to be a purple Cure and she's going to be called Cure Candy.

      Happiness Charge Precure!

Cure Lovely's color is going to be red.

Cure Princess will have a bit of indigo;.

Cure Tender's color will be green.

Cure Mirage's color will be orange. As you can see, i decided that the Happiness Charge team will have 6 Cures. If you'll look closely at the PreChanMirror, you will understand what i'm talking about.

      Mahoutsukai Precure!

Cure Miralce's color will be purple and her Linkle Stone will be a Diamond.

Cure Magical's color will be red and her Linkle Stone will be Ruby.

Cure Jewelly's(oc) color will be indigo and her Linkle Stone will be a Sapphire.

Cure Mofurun's Linkle Stone will be Topaz.

      KiraKira Precure a la mode

Cure Parfait's color will be green, because her color in the Sweets Pact and the background in her transformation is green.

Cure Pekorin's color will be orange, because her color in the Sweets Pact and the background in her transformation is orange.

      Star Twinkle Precure

Cure Soleil's color will be yellow, because her Star Color Pen is yellow and she is very yellow-like.

    • Sorry, any magical girl series should NOT have a male lead, not even as part of the team. Girls only because of the name. Again, that's like having a boy to be a Powerpuff Girl. I may want male heroes the same way as female heroes, but not in a magical girl series. They should only incorporate the both gender heroes in an action series. I don't know why people want to trash the genre like that. It's just like people saying the rock genre should have hidden singers and instrumentalists playing over the speakers over the performers, as in tracks. You're better off with tomboy pink Cures because we probably don't have that since Futari wa. The new pink Cure can also be smart too. Even if the boy is cute-looking and has the same facial features as the girls like rounded eyes, and the dress is perfectly made, he would still look like the creep Dennis Rodman.

    • Precure is an action series though despite being part of the Magical Girl genre (which itself isn’t exactly devoid of that kind of stuff either).

Making a male the lead would kind of defeat the show’s intended purpose but I’d be ok with a Male Cure just being part of the team as long as it was handled right and he didn’t overshadow the female leads (he wouldn’t necessarily need to wear a skirt either, just look at “Cure Waffle” and some of the townsfolk Cures at the end of Hugtto).

The best compromise would probably be to just introduce a Tuxedo Mask esque figure who wasn’t a Cure per se but was still technically a part of the team and helped out every once and a while. While not all of them had powers we’ve technically already had a few male allies who could fight in the past (Coupe, Jonathan, Seiji) so there’s even some precedent for this.

For example, here’s one that came out back when Star Twinkle was first announced:

    • All I will say is, I do not believe Precure needs to be "magical girl".

Although the "genre" has been acknowledged to exist, unlike Powerpuff Girls it is not the show's own name and if it has rules they can be broken. "genre" is a loose mentality. different "genres" can be mixed together, etc.

That being said, I'd be fine with having a male powerpuff girl, too. and for example if I absolutely must choose one term or the other I'd actually prefer to call Henri a "male magical girl" over calling him a "magical boy". Just because, I wanna buck the system and break the rules. though tbh I just call him a "Precure" instead, because that's what he actually is...

    • Magical Boy shows do exist but they’re a bit rarer. But yeah, just call him a Precure since that’s literally what he is.

I've said it before but I really hate this idea and think it's overused. If said character was an actual fighting team member, so more than Seiji for example, but still not a Precure, It, albeit in a subtle meta-ish way, intentionally makes the male team member be "othered". And the morals of Precure, are tbh against that idea at this point. So it'd basically be the meta of the show going against the show itself. Not so good. I hope Precure NEVER pulls a Tuxedo mask. so far fighting male allies, although they have happened, have never gone quite that far -  and I hope if they ever do, that they are actually Precure.

And, like I said, the name of the perceived "genre" and the name of the series itself are NOT interchangeable!

And genres are a loose idea that can be mixed!

You’re fine, and speaking as an adult male who loves the series Precure may have aspects that everyone can enjoy (such as a larger focus on action and story) but it’s important to remember that this show’s target audience is still young girls and that’s who they’re going to market it to first and foremost.

That said, we do seem to be getting a permanent female Kamen Rider in the most recent season so why not a permanent male Precure as well? I feel like KiraKira and Hugtto were Toei’s way of testing the waters a bit before they finally commit to pulling the trigger on that particular idea in a future season. Time will tell of course.

I think they were "testing the waters" too.

I don't watch Kamen Rider. But, if it's basically a show that has always had all male permanent members (and some non-permanent female members from what I've read elsewhere) then knowing what you just told me about it makes me happpy. Both for the Kamen Rider fans who really wanted it and also for any possibility of what type of thinking it can provide for Precure... <3

As a male myself, we do expect the Pretty Cure series to be good for kids without insulting their intelligence. I know boys like to watch the series because it shows that girls can be heroes too, and fine with the Precure being only girls. Same thing for the Powerpuff Girls, although nothing is really said that PPG is only targeted to girls since people at the time thought a series where the main characters are female deteremines the demographic, and we know the Barbie dolls are strictly for girls and should stay that way.

I think the mascot for the 2020 season should be a male rabbit because like Tarte and Prunce, male animals and creatures can be cute too. He should be voiced by a man, using a gentle voice without sounding like Michael Jackson. For the villain, he should be the one who deserves to die.

a similar reverse can also be said, that girls who watch Precure like/want it to teach that boys can be Precure too!

that would though, negate the rest of what you said there. the whole point is, anyone can achieve their dreams, no matter who or what!

      Also, villain redemption ftw

"Barbie dolls are strictly for girls and should stay that way."

"strictly" huh?... I'm sorry, but this line sounds quite mean. Not sure if you mean intended demographic, or literally who should be allowed to buy them. but still! the whole gendered toy marketing thing, is bad and needs to change! it is changing though anyways, so I am not that worried here, but I still don't like the way you think, and you are eventually going to find your mentality left behind in the dust sometime in the future....

    • I don’t think we’ve seen a Precure villain straight up die since Maho Girls (but depending on where they go with him it’s possible that Darknest might wind up being irredeemable, the most recent episode seemed to heavily imply that he destroyed his generals’ home planets in order to recruit them after all), usually they all get reformed somehow at the end no matter how bad they were (Elisio in KiraKira did some particularly terrible things such as trying to use Akira’s sick little sister as part of his schemes) so that would be a decent change of pace.

Honestly I miss villains in this series who were just bad people (Dune, Northa, Joker) who got what they deserved. A few shades of grey are fine but not every bad guy necessarily needs to be redeemed, sometimes in this world there are people who just can’t be saved.

But, I would enjoy a season with a different color pallet. We haven't had a main character with white as their theme color since Rhythm, and I really want a season where the pink Cure isn't the leader. Sure, she could be the lead protagonist, but she doesn't need to be the team leader. Or have the protagonist be a different color, but have the leader of the team be pink (which I'd be okay with). I just wish they'd switch it up a bit lol.

It would also be nice if the theme for next season would be fashion and that the blue Cure had yellow hair and the yellow Cure had blue hair to switch things up a bittttt.

    • I would argue that in practice Futari Wa, Splash Star and Maho Girls didn’t really have “leaders” in the strictest sense (and in the case of the former I would actually say Honoka kind of fits the bill more than Nagisa does as she’s usually the one coming up with strategies and the like). I would also say that Yuri feels more like the leader of the HeartCatch team than Tsubomi does (she has seniority and is more familiar with how their enemies operate).

But yeah, while Pink could still take point in battle and serve as the heart of the team it might be nice to put someone else in charge for a change (they’ve done that a few times with the Reds in Sentai after all).

        Loading editor
    • What can work for fashion is that the Cures can get pendants, bracelets (うでわ), and gloves (てぶくろ) as their means of defense and offenses. The Nintendo Mother trilogy has that. My color team palette choice would be pink, green, and white. Never been done before, and can succeed. The pink can be the instructor, the green can be the girly one, and the white can be the gentle one.

    • Like, we need another Fresh season lol. None of the Cures had their theme color as their hair color and it was nice. (Pine's color is yellow, but her hair is dirty blonde). It'd be cool to have the pink Cure have auburn/orange hair again. We haven't had that since Splash Star.

Just a 4 member team, total. 2 at the start, and gain 2 more midway, like HeartCatch and Suite did.

It'd also be nice to not have the mid season Cure be a former villain or a mysterious figure.

Edit: my preferred team pallet would be magenta (leader, athletic one), cerulean (big sister-like character), white (takes place of typical Blue), and yellow (lead character, introvert)

    • I'm quite certain that anytime anybody says "lead cure", that only means the primary protagonist. Other than that bit Toppa recently said to Hikaru (that bit was cool!), the show has NEVER had a canon "team leader" on the show itself.

I've heard about Logan and, to me, he's problematic for a variety of reasons. I also don't get why a company called American Girl would feel the need to have boy dolls, mainly because the company's main focus is to empower girls. Plus, at least to me, I haven't seen a single AG boy dolls being advertised with boys, so I don't know if they were for boys at all or were just for girls.

I feel the 'pink leader' pattern is so younger kids would be able to identify the leading Cure in the team. For the Precure franchise, it's easy to identify the leaders because of their pink schemes. It's been heavily engrained already, so I have strong doubts Toei would ever switch things up now. (Even if they have another Cure act as leader, people would still view the Pink one as the leaders regardless).

Well, my favorite thing about it is literally that the character is still an "American Girl doll" despite being a boy.

It's equally awesome, as calling a boy a princess, despite the word "princess" literally in the dictionary meaning the female child (daughter) of royalty. I think that is the most blatant bucking of the system there is, and while you and some others might hate it, I find it to be the best thing ever!

although.... you kinda said it yourself. their *main* focus is to empower girls. "main focus" does not mean EXCLUDING anything else! And this boy character, is the best friend of a female lead progtagonist. So it's like, a girl like her would probably not want her friend to be excluded, you know? So this also actually contributes to girl empowerment!

That book is pretty weird, since AG's been known for their girls health book for years. Also every one of their fictional books feature female protagonists and every other books is geared, in some ways, to girls. So why would they ever feel the need to have a book geared towards boys?

The main issue I have with this is that boys aren't allowed to get into AG, that's not the issue. What I don't like is when they think including boys into girl-centered properties mean they have to have 'special items' that appeal to boys rather than allowing them to like the girly items that're already available.

It's a trend I'm not familiar with 100%, but I get the bare bones of it: a company geared towards girls have to out of their way to appeal to boys with special products/characters etc while companies geared towards boys don't need to. Having boys like AG dolls are okay, but it crosses the line when they decide to release a line of boy dolls because apparently boys need their own stuff? Why can't they be encouraged to like the female characters, rather than telling them they need male representation?

And why is it that whenever a girl-centered TV show/company introduce something appealing for boys, it's viewed as some kind of much-needed empowerment?

I see your points to a certain degree, but for me it's about  a few things:

      1. if we're talking about a story with characters here, the idea that boys are allowed to be included in the group of friends rather than it being "girls only club" type thing. merely portraying the fact that it's allowed and not "taboo" is what I think is important here. that way the random boy who watches what's mainly a girls' show doesn't have to feel COMPLETELY left out and knows that the characters he likes would still accept him as their friend too. Going out of their way to confirm that boys can be included does not detract from "girl power", but actually helps it. Because if "girl power" turns into "girls only" then it actually can become seen as kind of a negative thing.

      2. if we're talking dolls/etc, it's like... as I said, Logan is the lead girl's best friend (and the dolls are based on characters that appeared in a movie). Some people just want there to be toys of all the characters / their favorite characters/ etc. Same argument could be made to say there should be more villain toys.

      3. of course, the idea that, you know, you can be anything. Anyone can become a cure, etc. But that one ought to be a given by now.

I just can't find part 2 of my commentary, can you tell me where is it?

I checked this thread's history and I can't find anything that you've removed anything. Maybe it's in another thread that your comment has been deleted?

From what I can see in the history, only Anzan has removed replies in this thread. And only admins can remove other replies in a thread and Anzan isn't an admin. So I can only think of that your reply was either removed in another thread or on another Wiki.

    • And all of those replies I removed were my own (I don’t think you can remove anyone else’s unless you’re an admin).

Yeah, the only replies that has been removed were yours from what I can see in the history. Nothing were found about Masha07 having removed any of his replies in this thread. The only ones who can remove replies are the ones who made them and admins.

    • What about a Dark Skinned Pink cure leader in the next precure series?

        Loading editor
    • Or a (core team) Cure not from another world/dimension who was also not born in Japan. We have had a few mixed race Cures in the past though (Urara is half French on her mom’s side and Elena is half Hispanic on her dad’s side).

I can feel the hype train from fans.

    • That’s hopeful but it might not always be the same time every year. I forget, when did the Star Twinkle logo first drop?

Either way I’m guessing we should know the name of Season 17 fairly soon now.

The Japan Patent Office reported an October 5 filing for a trademark on a "Star Twinkle Precure" logo for various goods on Tuesday that was the day the trademark was filed we could get the trademark this week or October as Hibiki said on her Twitter

    • Ah thanks. Either way, it probably shouldn’t be too much longer at this rate.

    • Kira yaba!

I was expecting the trademark to appear mid-late October for some reason, so an earlier date would really bring on the hype!

I have seen some of these!

Sonic characters, including male ones, transforming into cures (usually into existing cure characters though, for example, Sonic himself transforming into Cure Passion).

Originally Japanese but some English speakers actually made dubbed versions of them. <3

Yeah but TOEI needs to have the rights for the Sonic characters with SEGA (the rights for anime of Sonic is still owned by TMS). So, a Sonic PreCure will never happen (not even the future).

These are just fan made videos that are out there, really cool and well made but obviously not official....

    • I was only hoping for a pirate/sibling theme but also a Chinese mythology themed PreCure with fairies based on the Chinese zodiac.

        Loading editor
    • Another idea might be to redo a theme they haven’t done for a while (for example, music or fairytales might be interesting to see again from a different angle).

Also regardless of theme I’d also like to see another season that focuses on a duo, those are usually fun. In fact, maybe take it a step further and have the starting Cures actually be sisters or otherwise related to one another.

    • a mythology theme does sound perfect this may sound a bit off for japan show what about a sparten rome and greek legends im sure mythology also resolves around the stars in their time

Sisters as main original duo would be cool!

And another idea to add, maybe they could be based on the Kamikita twins! Since many Precure characters are loosely based on something (ex: Criasu members being based on rl Japanese comedians, Cure Chocolate being based on a certain type of musical play, etc). Since they're manga artists, season could be art themed!

No biggie, but I'm hoping to find support for it. :)

One theme I think that's been done to near-death by now is dreams. Yes, Princess and Hugtto have covered dreams from different angles, so another dream-based series would be too repetitive if not done differently.

If we had a season that was also sleep-themed or had a relevance to nightmares, than maybe. Besides that, the dream theme seems kinda stale.

        Loading editor
    • Technically Yes 5 (the first one) also dealt with dreams a bit as well (sort of anyway). So yeah, unless they can think of something unique to do with it it might be best to give that particular idea a rest for a while.

    • I wouldn't mind seeing another music series, and I bet people will continue guessing 'idol theme' until Toei released an idol=themed Precure series. But even if they're not idols, having the Cures in some sort of band would be neat.

Also like the idea of the Chinese Zodiac, especially with Star Twinkle mentoring the Western one.

That could be fun, but doing a Zodiac season right after Star Twinkle would probably come off as a bit redundant. I’m sure you could make it work somehow though.

As I mentioned, another shot at fairytales could be good as well, especially if you actually tied it into the powers this time with each Cure being modeled after a hero from various folklore (like Urashima Taro for Pink, Robin Hood for Green, Son Wukong for Red, etc.)

    • Maybe do something where the MOTW is planted inside of a person’s body causing them to go berserk/start acting abnormally. The Precure would then have to somehow physically enter that person’s dreams in order to put things back to normal.

    • I was thinking of a fashion season. Sure, Heartcatch and Happiness Charge did it, but it was never the entire point. The trio (pink, green, and white) can do fashion designing, and utitlize rock music. They can even have round-eyed boys as their customers.
