Synopsis[]
One day at school, a girl asks Satoru out on a date, but he politely declines. He returns to the building when he notices that Mayu and Yuki are by the door, having overheard his conversation after retrieving a book Mayu forgot. The two learn that Satoru gets asked out sometimes, but he always rejects them because of his feelings for Iroha. Mayu asks why Satoru won't tell Iroha how he feels, and he replies that he doesn't want her to feel uncomfortable. They soon join with Komugi and Iroha, and Iroha is excited that a client named Keiji is coming over, whom Satoru clearly hasn't heard of.
Iroha starts gushing over Keiji, and the others are shocked by the love she has for him. When asked about what she likes about Keiji, Iroha says that he's cool, smart, hard-working, and can run really fast. Satoru just stands in shock and becomes preoccupied by thinking of how fast a human can run, but Mayu snaps him out of it, declaring he might have a rival. Iroha invites the others to meet Keiji, much to their surprise.
The next day, Yuki, Mayu, and Satoru sneak into the running area of Iroha's house and hide behind the fence so Satoru has time to prepare. Then, Iroha arrives and starts talking to a young man who's supposedly Keiji. He calls her "dear Iroha" and Satoru and Mayu become flabbergasted and are left in disbelief. It's then that a dog startles Yuki by licking her knee, giving away their hiding spot to Iroha. They soon learn that Keiji is actually a dog, not a human, and Iroha introduces him and his owner, Keiichi, to the others. Keiji is training to become a commissioned police dog. Satoru is relieved at first, but he notices how relaxed Iroha looks when talking to Keiichi and starts losing hope all over again. He abruptly leaves and Mayu and Yuki follow him.
Mayu and Yuki catch up to Satoru and he explains how frustrated he felt watching Iroha and Keiichi's conversation. Mayu then tells Satoru he should confess his feelings for Iroha because she'll never know if he doesn't. Satoru isn't sure initially, but Mayu then asks if he would be happy if Iroha goes out with anyone else. Satoru realizes Mayu may have a point, and admits he wouldn't be. With that settled, Yuki suggests returning to Iroha's so Satoru can tell her his feelings before Keiichi can, but he'd rather prepare himself before doing that. Mayu is extremely willing to bring Satoru and Iroha together, but he doesn't know what to say.
Suddenly, Niko arrives and suggests getting advice from some of the animals at Niko Garden. Mey Mey is excited to help Satoru by showing him some of the animals' courtship behavior they use to show love towards others. Satoru watches several of them and starts mimicking their gestures, but he eventually becomes exhausted. Mey Mey asks why Satoru's suddenly interested in courting, and Niko tells him about Satoru's feelings for Iroha. He's immediately crushed because of how close he is to Satoru and even starts crying. Niko and Mayu then ask Satoru what he likes about Iroha, but he can't sum it up.
Mayu then asks Satoru if he remembers when he first met Iroha. Satoru recalls that he met her three years ago when he visited her family's pet clinic after Daifuku, whom he also just met, was injured by a snake. While he waited for Daifuku, Iroha joined Satoru and assured him Daifuku will be fine. Youko returned Daifuku to Satoru and he petted him for the first time. Iroha told him Daifuku's injury should heal quickly, and when he asked why Daifuku's ears don't stand up, Iroha explained that he's a lop-eared rabbit. Satoru turned to Iroha and she smiled at him and told him how kind he is, and he was smitten.
Since then, Satoru would always have a warm feeling in his chest whenever Iroha smiled at him and started studying about animals so he could talk to her more and they could both smile. Once Satoru finished explaining his feelings, Mayu tells him that he should be honest about his feelings, and he agrees. He starts thinking of a straightforward message when Mey Mey tries interrupting him because he's scared the two wouldn't be friends anymore, but Satoru's too deep in thought.
Meanwhile, a bored Torame tries to call out to Gaou, but he doesn't answer. He starts walking around and finds another Garugaru egg, which he corrupts and it hatches into a kangaroo Gaogaon. After everyone senses it, Komugi and Iroha find Torame and the Gaogaon, but at first he's confused about just the two of them being there, and Komugi flexes her knowledge of basic math. The others then arrive and the Cures transform. The Cures pursue the Gaogaon, but the gusts formed by its punches blow Wonderful and Friendy away. Satoru recognizes the Gaogaon is a kangoroo, and Friendy attempts to calm it down. Instead, it goes after Friendy and she quickly summons her Ribbon Barrier and blocks its punches. However, it then forcefully kicks the barrier into Friendy's body and sends her flying into a tree.
While the other Cures deal with the Gaogaon, Satoru rushes to Friendy's side and sees that she's in pain. Nonetheless, Friendy won't give up on the Gaogaon and is determined to save it. Admiring her tenacity, Satoru lets Friendy know that kangaroos only move forwards, and she thanks him for the advice. The Cures then call upon the Kirarin Lion to increase their speed, but they still can't get near the Gaogaon. Friendy returns and challenges it to a race, and when the other Cures are about to join her, Satoru tells everyone to leave it to Friendy.
As Friendy continues racing the Gaogaon, Satoru tries to catch up with her. He thinks about how hard Iroha works to help the animals and though he can only cheer for her, he wants to protect her smile. He wants to be by her side and be dependable. Meanwhile, Friendy and the Gaogaon cross a bridge and she meets up with the other Cures, with Nyammy and Lillian holding a giant Lillian Net. The Gaogaon is reminded of its mother's pouch and jumps into it, and with the Gaogaon captured, the Cures use Eternal Kizuna Shower to turn it back into a Niko Kangaroo and Wonderful and Friendy send it back to Niko Garden.
Satoru meets Iroha at the bridge and she thanks him for the advice, but Satoru is too focused on preparing to confess his feelings. Everyone waits eagerly for him to say something, but at the last moment, he backs out and suggests heading home, and is met with a mixture of confusion and disappointment from the others. Mey Mey is relieved, but he accidentally blurts out that Satoru wanted to confess his love to Iroha, and he quickly realizes his mistake. Iroha stands in shocked silence while Satoru wonders what to do now.

Trivia[]
- The Komugi & Iroha version of the ending is used.
- Mayu's expression of having shocked white eyes after Mey Mey accidentally reveals Satoru's crush is based on those from the unfinished 1976 manga "Glass Mask" by mangaka Suzue Miuchi.
- Different flowers and plants with different flower languages appear in this episode:
- The episode's opening shot includes pink daisies, which mean platonic love Iroha and Satoru have for each other.
- In the scene where Satoru rejects the female student, there is a shot of marigolds, which symbolize grief over lost love for both Satoru and the girl. It also hints at Satoru's worries of being potentially rejected by Iroha.
- In the scene where Mayu talks with Satoru about his feelings for Iroha, there is a wall of thistle, which represents both devotion and determination that Satoru has for confessing to Iroha, thanks to Yuki and Mayu's encouragement.
- When Satoru recalls how his child self gained feelings for Iroha, there is a bouquet of various flowers. Pink hibiscuses show a deep sense of both platonic and romantic love Satoru has for Iroha, sunflowers indicates his loyalty and adoration for her, and forget-me-nots that symbolize true love, respect and important memories between both of them. White daisies within the bouquet also showcases Satoru and Iroha's mutually unwavering loyalty and strong affection.
- Goldenrods, which symbolize growth and encouragement, are seen during Satoru's flashback when Iroha motivated him to study about animals.
- A maple leaf falls into the river after Mey Mey reveals Satoru's crush to Iroha. Since maple signifies calmness and peace, the fallen leaf is a clear signal that the status quo of Iroha and Satoru's friendship has been drastically changed.
