The Great Wan-Nyan Incident (ワンニャン大事件 Wan Nyan Daijigen)? is the 40th episode of Wonderful Pretty Cure! and is the 1008th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.
Summary[]
Komugi and the others go to Toboe Shrine, where Gaou might be. However, Niko-sama's power goes out of control after trying to track him, turning Iroha into a dog and Mayu into a cat.

- Iroha and Mayu are temporarily turned into a dog and a cat respectively thanks to Niko's power being unstable.
- Satoru is also temporarily turned into a rabbit by Niko at the end.
Synopsis[]
Komugi and Iroha climb the steps towards Gaou's shrine on Mount Toboe and reach the top. However, there's one problem: Iroha's now a dog. She rolls around on the ground and complains that she can't turn back into a human. Meanwhile, Mayu has also turned into a cat and the two start to panic. A great "wanyan" incident as occurred!
Satoru tries to calm Iroha down, but she doesn't know what to and she can't stop running around. As they get petted, Iroha and Mayu ask how this incident happened. It all started when they went to investigate Toboe Shrine and see if Gaou's there. Satoru remembered a social media report involving Torame coming down the mountain, and Komugi once heard howling coming from them as well. Komugi wondered if it was Gaou who was howling, but Yuki reminded her that he's an enemy. Still, Iroha wanted to talk to Gaou in hopes that he would change, and even if he rejected them, they'll keep trying.
They finally reached the dilapidated shrine and Komugi turned into a dog to sniff out Gaou's scent. Once Komugi picked it up, Yuki turned into her cat form to look inside and see if Gaou was in there. When Yuki couldn't find anything, Niko turned into her Unicorn Niko form to search for Gaou's presence. Using her diamond, she searched the entire surrounding area, but couldn't find anything. Suddenly, the diamond started to blink and before anyone knew it, a cloud of pink smoke appeared and Iroha and Mayu got caught up in it. Once the smoke cleared, Iroha was turned into a dog while Mayu became a cat. The whole group was left in shock about what just happened.
Back in the present, Niko admits that her powers caused Iroha and Mayu's transformations to happen, as they are still unstable. Now she has to wait until her Nikoniko Powers return to revert them back to normal, and that only depends on how much everybody smiles, which Iroha and Mayu aren't really happy about. Elsewhere, Gaou is meditating and Zakuro joins him to flirt with him a bit while admiring Animal Town's view. Torame becomes bored of Zakuro's act and decides to go play some more.
Meanwhile, Iroha and Mayu wonder what to do because they can't return home as animals and it would be hard to explain things. Then, Komugi decides she wants to play with Iroha a lot until she can turn back. Everyone else agrees with the idea, as their smiles will power up Niko so she can fix it, and Iroha and Mayu are curious to know what it's like to be their respective animals.
They all head to the off-leash area and Iroha starts having so much fun running and understands why Komugi likes going on walks now. She and Komugi then run with each other while Yuki sits and pets Mayu and even starts snuggling with her like Mayu used to do with her. Mayu reflexively slaps Yuki with her paw, but Yuki waves a cat toy in front of her until she lets her catch it, and admires how cute Mayu is as a cat. Watching everyone smiling and having fun with their pets causes Niko's diamond to shine again as she regains her power.
After Mey Mey suggests Satoru should play with him until Niko points out how popular Iroha is with the other dogs. Satoru is shocked at seeing Pon and Choco sniffing Iroha to greet her. Iroha is tickled by their licks and nuzzles when Satoru suddenly picks up Iroha and runs away with her before anything else can happen. Once they're at a safer place, they realize what just happened and Satoru apologizes to the embarrassed Iroha for picking her up so suddenly. Komugi joins him and notices that Iroha's tail is wagging, meaning that she's happy, and she and Satoru become flustered yet again. The others also reunite with them now that Niko has collected a lot of Nikoniko Power.
Meanwhile, Torame finds another Garugaru egg in a creek and meets a trio of frogs. He imitates their ribbits for a while until he remembers why he's here and corrupts the egg, which hatches into a frog Gaogaon. Since they're now animals, Iroha and Mayu are able to sense the Gaogaon's presence and they all go to find it. Once they arrive, Iroha and Mayu wonder how they can stop it in their current forms. Then, Niko, with her power fully restored, uses it to turn them back into humans. With everyone present now, the Cures transform.
Torame orders the Gaogaon to play with the Cures, and it jumps high into the air, but Wonderful and Friendy get out of its way before they're hit. It then lashes its tongue out at Lillian, meaning that they can't get close to it. However, Satoru says that there is a way: since Wonderful and Friendy were standing still despite being closer, the Gaogaon attacked Nyammy and Lillian, who are further away but they both moved, instead, meaning it usually attacks anything that moves. This also means they would have to get close to it without any of them moving, which gives Friendy an idea.
Torame grows impatient with the Cures when they finally execute their plan by playing a game of red light, green light. While the Gaogaon focused on the duo in front of it, the other duo sneaks up behind it. Every time Torame commands the Gaogaon to turn around and attack the moving duo, the roles change and the other approaches it instead. Torame catches on and orders it to attack Wonderful and Friendy while they move, but this gives Lillian the chance to trap the Gaogaon with Lillian Net. The Cures are now ready to bring the Gaogaon back to Niko Garden and purify it with Eternal Kizuna Shower, turning it back into a Niko Frog.
Torame is speechless at first, but he then admits that the Cures come up with some fun ideas before retreating. Upon hearing that, Wonderful starts thinking that maybe Torame just wants to play with them. Lillian then remembers Torame always mentioning how he wants to play with the Cures during their encounters. Wonderful hopes that someday they can all have fun and play together.
The group starts returning home and Iroha is glad everyone's back to normal, but Mayu admits she had fun when she was a cat. Satoru then wonders what it would be like to be an animal and Niko then turns him into a rabbit. However, her powers are still unstable, but Komugi and Iroha promise to play with him a lot in the meantime. Komugi and Satoru then race to the park, but Satoru easily passes her up and is amazed at his newfound speed. His body's never felt so light and his legs are strong, and he keeps spouting facts about rabbits as he continues his run. Iroha comments on how much fun Satoru's having as he plans on telling Daifuku how amazing rabbits are.
