Major Events[]

  • Otsuru's dog, Fuku, passes away.

Synopsis[]

Komugi and Iroha are on their way to school when they see Otsuru and Fuku out on a walk. Otsuru plans on visiting Iroha's family's animal hospital later for Fuku's checkup and says it's almost been 18 years since she adopted Fuku, making her older than Otsuru in dog years. Iroha remembers Fuku from when she was little and suggests throwing a celebration for her birthday, which Otsuru agrees to. Meanwhile, Niko watches over them and takes interest in Fuku.

At school, the rest of the group is told about the celebration for Fuku. Satoru is surprised to find out that Fuku is 18 years old, which equals 88 in human years. Fuku is Iroha's friend because they used to play together when she visited the salon. Everybody agrees to help organize the celebration while Iroha thinks of a gift to give Fuku. Mayu suggests they can all help to make a patchwork blanket for when it gets cold, and they all agree on the idea.

The group arrives at Otsuru's house where, along with Okame and Oshika, prepare decorating for the celebration. The two ladies thank Iroha for coming up with the idea and tell them how grateful they are to Fuku. When Otsuru goes check on Fuku, Iroha notices a picture of a young Otsuru with a different dog. Okame explains that the dog in the picture is named Suzu and that she and Otsuru were extremely close, but tragically, Suzu died when Otsuru was in high school. Oshika recalls Otsuru telling them she'll never get another dog so she won't experience the same sadness she did when Suzu passed.

Then, 18 years ago, the three were helping at a event to unite rescue dogs with new families when they met a puppy who was afraid of people. However, when the puppy looked at Otsuru, she was reminded of Suzu and it walked up to her. Otsuru has since adopted Fuku and has been very happy ever since they met. Komugi and Iroha see how close the two are and work hard to prepare for the celebration. They then make invitations, work on the patchwork blanket, and help Tsuyoshi prepare food. Meanwhile, Torame finds a giant Garugaru egg hidden in a cliffside.

The group returns to Otsuru's house the next day, but Iroha can tell something is off when Otsuru answers the door. She says that Fuku hasn't been getting up lately, and everyone becomes concerned. They all check on Fuku, who looks more tired than usual, and Otsuru asks Komugi if she could talk to her. Komugi starts speaking to Fuku about it being 18 years since she met Otsuru when Torame corrupts the giant Garugaru egg to hatch. They sense the Gaogaon's presence and Iroha lies about forgetting something so they can all leave. As it starts to rain, Otsuru hopes the group is okay when Fuku's condition takes a turn for the worst, causing Otsuru to worry.

Once the Cures arrive, they feel the sensation of heavy footsteps. Komugi senses the animals are scared of one they've never seen before. Yuki notices the Gaogaon coming their way and it soon reveals itself to be a giant Tyrannosaurus. The Cures are surprised at how huge it is and know that they have to save it before it can go into Animal Town. The Cures transform and try to hold the Gaogaon back with their barrier attacks, but it smashes through the shields easily. Satoru tells them to watch out for its jaws as they dodge its attacks. Nyammy comes up with the idea of luring it into the mountains to keep it away from the town.

While this happens, Otsuru and Fuku hurry to the animal hospital when they notice the road had gotten badly damaged, and Otsuru becomes afraid. Meanwhile, Wonderful runs away from the Gaogaon and Friendy uses Ribbon Barrier to slow it down, but when it doesn't work, Friendy gets Wonderful out of the way. Nyammy and Lillian use the Kirarin Bear's power to hold the Gaogaon off, but it slams its tail at Nyammy and smacks Lillian away with its jaws before setting its sights on the remaining Cures. Torame cheers the Gaogaon on when he notices Otsuru talking to Fuku. He joins with Otsuru and asks what's wrong, and she explains that Fuku doesn't have much time left and she can't reach the hospital because of the damaged road. Torame notices Fuku quivering under her blankets.

Meanwhile, the Gaogaon easily destroys Wonderful's and Friendy's barriers and is just about to defeat them as well when much to everyone's surprise, Torame tells it to stop attacking. The Cures take the opportunity to purify the Gaogaon with Eternal Kizuna Shower, turning it back into a Niko Tyrannosaurus. With the roads repaired, Torame allows Otsuru to continue towards the hospital before he retreats. After Wonderful and Friendy send the Niko Tyrannosaurus back to Niko Garden, the Cures try figuring out why the Gaogaon stopped attacking. Wonderful then wants to hurry back to see Fuku again, but Friendy spots Otsuru running towards the hospital and becomes worried again.

Once everyone arrives at the animal hospital, Otsuru and Iroha wait while Youko checks on Fuku. It's then that she gives Otsuru some devastating news: Fuku might not last the night and she'll have to prepare to say goodbye. While Otsuru seemingly accepts it, Iroha asks if there's really nothing Youko can do to save Fuku. Youko says that it's best that Fuku goes home with Otsuru so she can spend as much time with her as she can, and Iroha reluctantly accepts her answer. While everyone goes back to Otsuru's house, Iroha tries asking Niko if she can do anything to save Fuku, but Niko is sure she would understand, meaning there's nothing much else to prevent the inevitable.

They get to the house and get ready to witness Fuku's final moments. Mayu gives her the patchwork blanket they all made as a gift and Otsuru covers Fuku with it. Komugi learns from Fuku that Otsuru first got the cushion she's laying on when she brought her home and she remembers that day. Komugi also says Fuku thanks Otsuru for all the walks they've gone on. Otsuru then starts talking to Fuku herself, telling her how happy she's been living with her. She recalls how every day together has been so much fun and she starts crying.

Fuku then looks over and notices Niko before her, who grants Fuku her final wish. As Otsuru continues to cry, Fuku miraculously stands up and walks towards her to lick her tears away. Komugi tells Otsuru that Fuku says she loves her and Otsuru says she'll love her forever and forever. Fuku then asks her to hold her one last time. As everyone around Otsuru starts crying, she thanks Fuku as she passes away in her arms.

Otsuru thanks Iroha to putting the celebration together, but Iroha is too sad to respond. Otsuru also tells them the word "fuku" means "happiness" and that Fuku brought her a lot of it, and that happiness will remain in her heart. She says Iroha's celebration also made Fuku happy and thanks her again, but Iroha could only sadly look at the empty cushion where Fuku used to be.
